Ultimately, despite its repetitive nature, Hades 2 is simply more Hades, and that’s not a bad thing. The story is compelling, the characters, dialogue, and line delivery are fantastic, the combat is more thoughtful than the first game, and there’s twice as much level and boss variety compared to Hades 1. It’s an excellent sequel, even if being more of the same didn’t always strike the right chords for me.

Hades II is a benchmark for the genre. The story, characters, writing, and art direction exceed the expectations set by the original Hades. Further, the new gameplay mechanics and the addition of a second area make for a game that can keep you occupied for dozens of hours without ever getting boring. While the ending is extremely disappointing, I can confidently recommend Hades II to everyone, regardless of whether you've played other entries in the genre or not.

The charactes are captivating and deep, and the visual and sound design far exceed expectations. Supergiant, we knew you had it in you, and you certainly delivered.

Supergiant Games put itself in an unenviable position when Hades 2 was announced. To that point, this was an indie studio that always had a new story to tell. It had never put out a sequel to any of its previous games. Imagine the pressure on this developer when it decided to buck that trend to craft a sequel to one of the best games of the modern era, one that helped define what it means to be a roguelite. With all of that said, Supergiant Games has not only crafted one of modern gaming's best roguelites, it has now crafted one of modern gaming's best sequels. It'd be cliché to say Hades 2 is everything Hades was and more, but it'd also be accurate. This sequel isn't just good, it's godlike.

Hades II is a triumph in every way, and the degree to which the studio has built on the original makes it feel like we have gotten two sequels in one.

Improving and expanding on everything that made the first game so memorable, Hades 2 is an even more epic rogue-lite journey and Supergiant's best work yet.

Addictive combat isn't the only thing Hades 2 has to offer, though. To be blunt, I was blown away by just how many voice lines there are this time, whether in the hub or on the battlefield proper. The hub in Hades 2 features a farming minigame, numerous vendors, and extensive customization options. It feels like every single run, I was tweaking some value, as opposed to rushing through the original Hades with mostly the same build.

Hades 2's art is breathtaking, its characters are captivating, the combat is fast, fun, endlessly varied, and tactical, and the music is spectacular.

Hades 2 is the perfection of a formula that Supergiant had already nearly mastered. While a little safe compared to the fantastic original, the new additions make this one of the best out there that’s sure to keep pulling you in for “Just one more run.”

The best roguelite of recent years, Hades 2 will repeatedly beat you down but leave you gasping, desperate for more. With hours of frenetic gameplay beautifully wrapped in spectacular graphics, captivating voice acting and an incredible soundtrack, Hell has never looked nor felt so fantastic as this.

Supergiant Games has crafted yet another experience of mechanical and narrative excellence with Hades 2.

Hades II is an absolute blast from moment one, and only gets better from there. Everything from the dialogue to the music, visuals, combat, and build possibilities feels polished to a mirror sheen. It’s going to take you a long time to even reach the depths of Hades or the peak of Olympus, but when you finally do you’ll get hooked all over again.

When indie developer Supergiant released the first Hades game out of early access in 2020, it was nothing short of a masterpiece. An excellently crafted game that elevated rougelikes by weaving the storytelling and gameplay together in stronger and better ways than we'd previously seen in the genre.

Hades 2 takes all what worked with Hades and enhances it by adding more interactions, weapons, boons, and materials to pursue, among others. Furthermore, it improves the already addictive roguelike loop to make not only of the best in the genre, but a solid GOTY contender.

Maybe it's witchcraft. Maybe it's magic. Either way, Supergiant manages to draw down the moon with its Herculean action and epic narrative in Hades 2.

Hades 2 is an unbelievable triumph for more reasons than a pair of human hands can count. Supergiant Games’ sequel is a bold evolution of the original that flawlessly executes new ideas to deliver the best roguelike of this generation.

Topping the original Hades was a damn near impossible feat, but Supergiant Games pulled it off. While it still has some of the accessibility issues of its predecessor, Hades 2 manages to improve upon the combat, world-building, and content of the first game, making Melinoe’s journey stand out. It may not surprise or shock Hades fans with originality, but it upped the stakes in a way that makes it a must-play game.

Despite some stumbles in its opening hours, Hades 2 blooms with flexible combat and unforgettable characters.

Hades 2 sticks the landing with an evolution on an already mighty foundation, with enough changes to the core to justify its existence as a separate entity. For returning players, Hades 2 will give them more than they could want. For first-timers, it provides a polished and extremely enjoyable place to start.

A solid roguelike with a fun and well-balanced challenge, but it does little to move the formula forward and in certain respects is actually inferior to its predecessor.

The roguelike genre is magnificently mastered in Hades II. The game seems more promising than Hades, even if it is in early access. Whether or not you're looking forward to the following updates, the game is already brilliant.

Hades 2 from Supergiant Games is an excellent roguelike and a worthy successor to Hades. It provides hours of great fun. Early Access is scheduled to last until the end of 2024, and I'm already looking forward to seeing what the final version of this game, which has already managed to win praise from fans of the first installment, will look like.

There's a little bit of polish left to apply, but given the sheer increase in scope between Hades 2 and its predecessor, that's more than understandable. A hugely ambitious roguelike, with an improved progression loop and grander narrative, but the same ruthlessness in play and charm in worldbuilding as the original, makes this an astounding early access success.

A fun-loving follow-up shakes up the underworld without fouling the Hades formula.

Hades 2 has managed to improve upon every single aspect of the original. If you're a fan of difficult but rewarding rogue-lite exploration, where every run gets you closer to your objective, it's perfect. We can't wait to see the content Supergiant Games have up their sleeves for later in early access and the eventual full release.

Ah, Hades. My game of the year for 2018 even in its early access form, and the closest thing to a perfect roguelike that’s ever existed. With its deep narrative entrenched in Greek mythology, tales of familial struggles, and LGBTQ+ representation that feels organic and inclusive, it’s easy to see why Hades struck a chord with a vastly diverse audience. Hades 2 enters early access seven years after its predecessor, and the time and love that Supergiant Games has put into it is evident from the off.
