Hello Kitty Adventure Island is a sweet, fun open-world experience with quests to help move the story along. With new areas to explore and new friends to meet, this wholesome game is a great option for all cozy gamers young and old.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure is finally available to play on the PS5. The game (whose title was presumably inspired by South Park almost 20 years ago) originally released on Apple Arcade in 2023 and then on PC and Switch last January.

You may be limited as to how much you can do each day in Hello Kitty Island Adventure, with many of its missions being tied to a real-time clock. But it's hard to mind too much when the game is so delightfully charming and just a joy to spend time with.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure is charming for both fans of the characters and newcomers alike. While a mobile-style system and frustrating narrative progression roadblocks exist, these are mostly eased by the story itself and the plethora of content that can keep kids and adults entertained alike.

Players complete tasks like crafting, fishing, and solving puzzles to attract visitors and strengthen friendships with beloved Sanrio characters. Explore the island to unlock new areas and hidden mysteries.

Two words I never thought I would say in the same sentence are “bold” and “Sanrio,” so let’s savour this together. Hello Kitty Island Adventure is a very bold statement from Sanrio. The idea of putting out a game that is so clearly inspired by Animal Crossing would be daunting to most companies, but here we are. Join all of your favourite Hello Kitty characters as they venture to a strange island, set up shop, help out friends, and decorate!

Hello Kitty Island Adventure is a cosy game I'd recommend to almost anyone, thanks to its varied activities and delightful characters.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure is the perfect mix of life-sim and adventure, standing out from other games in the genre. With rewarding progression, fun exploration, and adorable characters, it’s a must-play for cozy game lovers, although its controls could use some fine-tuning. Still, it’s an absolute treat for fans!

Otherwise, the visual style is a delight. The locales are colorful, your avatar is incredibly cute, and the beloved characters you’re surrounded by are adorable. Hello Kitty Island Adventure doesn’t feel derivative of other similar titles because of how clearly it takes from the cutesy Sanrio aesthetic, from the charming visuals to the bubbly sounds that come with the dialogue.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure is your new favorite cozy exploration game. While it looks similar to others in the genre, once you start playing, the truth is that there is nothing like Hello Kitty Island Adventure when it comes to exploration.

This means that while players could access the same content, eventually, new players were forcibly unable to catch up with day-one players. Since there is no cross-platform play nor cross-save feature, and everyone will be required to start fresh, this won’t be as much of an issue for Switch or PC players if the trend continues, but it's still unclear how this would work alongside the mobile version of the game. Moreover, even if console players are behind mobile players, it will not impact the individual experience as the events themselves will still be simultaneous for players on all platforms and new to each player.

With updates coming out every month and recurring events changing things up, every day feels different on this island. I’m looking forward to seeing how Hello Kitty Island Adventure’s future unfolds.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure is the perfect cozy time sink. Now that it is on Nintendo Switch and PC, its rich world and consistent updates will make it a part of my regular rotation.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure is an incredible, cozy game with great exploration that lets you live with Sanrio's unique characters. I enjoyed the experience of reaching each biome, fishing and catching insects. However, everything was fun and games until I remembered this was a re-release for more platforms. So, the lack of new content was underwhelming.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure is cute and colorful, but the mindless tasks and artificially slow pace of its daily progression make it suited for little more than filling up the dull moments of daily life.

In a saturated market with games clambering to echo the soul of Animal Crossing, Hello Kitty Island Adventure has finally grabbed that baton and ran with it. It ticks every box in what I want from this genre, chucking every possible game mechanic at the player to play around with so there’s never a dull moment, and probably won't be for quite a while. My only gripe is that I had to stop playing it in order to write this review!

If any franchise felt like it was already built up for an Animal Crossing-style game, it’s the Sanrio universe. Hello Kitty Island Adventure was an absolute delight to explore with plenty to keep me coming back and seeing what else it had to offer each day. I won’t claim to be anywhere near that minimum 40-hour possibility, but I also feel like there’s enough here to keep me interested in getting to that amount of playtime with relative ease. The performance could be better, and I feel like some might be annoyed by the daily constraints the game has, but Hello Kitty Island Adventure is still a wonderful time, and if you’re looking for an Animal Crossing-style experience you can keep in your pocket and play at nearly anytime, I’m not sure you could do much better.
