Check out PlayStation LifeStyle's Metal Gear Survive review to find out why it's the craziest Metal Gear game yet. It takes the series in new directions.
It’s a sad truth that still puts a pit in my stomach, but Kojima and Konami are done. Konami still owns the Metal Gear name though, and they still want to make video games for it. Please let them. A new Hollywood reboot of your favorite franchise does not retroactively ruin the quality of the old movies, and Metal Gear Survive does not suddenly make the Metal Gear Solid series any less brilliant. Metal Gear Survive, instead, stands alongside those as perhaps the strongest spinoff in the franchise to date. Metal Gear Solid as we know it may be finished, but after having so much fun with Survive...
Arriving with very little fanfare from both its core franchise following and Konami itself, Metal Gear Survive is going to be judged unfairly thanks to the baggage of Hideo Kojima’s exit and what the Japanese publisher has become in recent years. This spin-off ditches what made the Metal Gear Solid series so special for the most part, but what it retains and introduces amalgamates into something really quite fascinating. There will be those who write it off completely, but for anyone willing to give Metal Gear Survive a chance, what they’ll find is a compelling, addictive, and ultimately rewar...
While it's a slow build and even by the end of the game some elements still annoyed me, I honestly had more fun with Metal Gear Survive than I would have ever expected and I'd like to see the game's formulas built upon.
No, it is not a good Metal Gear game. Yes it is somewhat difficult to love thanks to a laborious and shonky opening act. Yet Metal Gear Survive is a good survival game underneath the grime of its controversial existence. Whether people will give it the chance to show that is a whole other issue.
Survive does many things right and wrong but it doesn't deserve to be called a "Metal Gear" game.
Konami looks towards of a new frontier for the Metal Gear franchise.
Trading tactical espionage action for zombies and survival, with mixed results.
Most of you have probably already made up your mind about Metal Gear Survive. I think Survive has some redeeming qualities and, had it focused firmly on its multiplayer, I may have enjoyed the experience more. As it stands, there are just so many better titles in the survival genre, it's hard to recommend this game to anybody. I'm sad to say that Metal Gear Survive has squeezed any ounce of hope I had for this series I only recently got into.
Metal Gear Survive is the game I want it to be about... 10% of the time. When there’s a rare section where stealth is the best approach. When I just manage to defeat the final wave on a protection mission, thanks to strategic placement of defences. When I’m thinking my way out of a tense situation, moments away from being overwhelmed - by zombies, rather than starvation or suffocation.
"Why are we still here? Just to suffer?"
Survive is not a Metal Gear game designed by Hideo Kojima, but does that mean it's not worth playing? Here is our review...
