Planet Coaster isn’t perfect yet, but what’s there is just incredibly fun. There’s a lot of learning to do along the way, but with all of the customisation and freedom, Frontier Developments has delivered one of the best possible successors to the Rollercoaster Tycoon franchise. However, it’s an experience that will undoubtedly grow stronger as the game develops over its lifetime, which is something the developer is arguably quite skilled at. Ready to get back into the theme park-building game? Here’s your perfect chance.

Planet Zoo is the culmination of the best parts of Frontier’s previous efforts, but is far more than the sum of its parts. Hundreds of creatures, both cute and deadly, need homes, and it’s up to you to help them thrive and survive. While a few bugs hamper the overall experience, this is another simulation game that’ll keep me building sprawling and ever evolving parks for hundreds of hours to come.

Unleash your creativity in building and managing a theme park of your dreams in Planet Coaster. A spiritual successor of Roller Coaster Tycoon, it evokes feelings of nostalgia while presenting everything in a fresh and improved package for the gamers of today.

Planet Coaster is well at the top of the list for roller coaster games. It is easy to get lost in for hours on end and lets you explore the depths of your imagination with nearly limitless creation and design.

The coastest with the mostest.

Oh were the days of my youth. If I wasn’t playing JRPGs or concocting an evil plan on how I should kill my Sims, I was playing Rollercoaster Tycoon till the wee hours of the morning. Though I haven’t really played this type of game for quite some time, I was presented with Rollercoaster Tycoon 3’s spirit successor Planet Coaster by Frontier Developments. While I’m not one anymore to play a lot of builder games, I couldn’t wait to jump right on this.

While Planet Coaster has some flaws with management and automation, it is nonetheless an excellent theme park simulator that adds many new tools for the aspiring rollercoaster tycoon.

Planet Coaster knows its strengths. It's an absolute blast to build attractions and customize each park's look from the ground up, and the game consistently keeps things fun and light. It's hard to shake a feeling of utter satisfaction when one grabs a first-person seat and rides through a freshly built coaster, or watches as a series of triggers make a giant leviathan pop out of a lake every time guests walk near it. The game gives players the ability to create just about anything, giving everyone a significantly deep and highly replayable sandbox experience. Planet Coaster is the theme park simulator fans of the genre have been waiting for, and while it may not offer any big surprises in regards to the gameplay formula itself, it can still entertain for countless hours - this is one ride simulation fans won't want to get off of.

Planet Coaster does have its share of issues, however. There are annoying pop-ups; in my case constantly telling me about litter, that no amount of bins and janitorial service would seemingly rectify. The game crashed on me a few times (don’t tab out while the game is autosaving on the fastest simulation speed). The camera can also be a pain to navigate sometimes, but at the end of the day all of these issues are barely even minor blemishes on what is otherwise an excellent simulation game. Planet Coaster gives you such an incredible degree of freedom in creating what you want that any obstacles just become part of that meticulous process of building the perfect park. You’ll undoubtedly spend hours trying to get everything at the right angle; making sure everything is smooth and perfect, persevering through the hiccups that befall you because, at the end of the day, that’s how a great simulator game should feel. You want the theme park you envisage, and to be corny, the only limit in Planet Coaster is your imagination.

It’s difficult to explain how awesome Planet Coaster is to someone that hasn’t played it yet. In simple terms, it’s a construction and management sim that lets you create and manage a theme park, but that doesn’t even begin to describe what it really is. Ever wanted to manage your own Disneyland, build your own (and far more accurate) version of Harry Potter World or construct a ride with a scarier angular drop than Saw at Thorpe Park? Planet Coaster can make it happen.

While it may not be an amazing capitalism simulator, Planet Coaster is a fantastic theme park-building sandbox that rarely ever took an idea I had and told me, “No, you can’t do that.” Its knobs and levers are various and potent enough to allow creativity on par with a Minecraft or a Second Life, and a big part of my excitement is seeing what other people are going to do with it - especially when you factor in the seamless Steam Workshop integration. If I were another prominent theme park game coming out this year, suffice to say I’d be pretty worried right now.

Theme parks have the incredible ability to transport visitors to magical new worlds. I find it hard to walk through Disney World’s fairy-dust-sprinkled streets without dreaming about the amazing attractions I’d cook up if I only had a billion dollars and a team of Imagineers on payroll. Planet Coaster is a theme park creation toolkit that helps scratch that itch. While this simulated theme park proves that managing your own wonderland isn’t all fun and games, its nearly limitless creation tools allow for some grand displays sure to inspire the tycoons of tomorrow.

A decent follow-up to the RollerCoaster Tycoon series that feels like it could have been more.

Revolutionary creative sandbox tools make Planet Coaster the best theme park simulation game ever to hit PC. And when we say ever, we mean it.

As someone who started playing Planet Coaster without any real expectations, I can safely say that the game is well worth your time if you are the least bit interested in a game reminiscent of the classic Rollercoaster Tycoon games. Frontier have created one of the best games in the genre, and judging by their support of Elite Dangerous post-launch, it seems that there’s still more to come from the developers.

Like Cities: Skylines, Planet Coaster gives new life to the management genre, and even if the launch version does little to improve what I’ve played during the beta, this would still be essential for anyone who dreams of packing in their old job and running a theme park.
