Showtime embraces Peach's femininity and uses it to fuel her newfound heroics. Transforming into a graceful figure skater, a beautiful songstress or a cutesy chef is her way of saving those in need, and it's truly cathartic. On top of that, the levels are simply a whole lot of fun to play, despite how easy you might find them.

Princess Peach: Showtime! is the latest entry of the Mario franchise and the second game to feature Peach as a main character since Super Princess Peach in 2005. Knowing Nintendo, this game will certainly be held up to the same level of scrutiny given to other Mario games by both players and developers alike, and this game certainly lives up to that standard.

Princess Peach has really gotten the raw deal in terms of spotlight recognition since the Mario universe started spinning into side character games. Luigi’s Mansion is a fantastic series, Captain Toad warms my heart, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is tough as nails, and we’re all just waiting for a Rampage style Bowser game. But Peach? She got this arguably mediocre DS title where it felt just a little offensive that she basically got emotional and those were her superpowers. With P...

Overall, Princess Peach: Showtime is a solid game that runs well and offers a variety of ways to enjoy Peach as a character. This game may be better suited for younger audiences and it may keep older fans engaged with the different minigames available. It’s no Super Mario Wonder, but it isn’t a bad pick, and the low stakes are perfect for fans looking to simply kick back and play casually.

Princess Peach: Showtime! doesn’t quite suffice as the leading lady performance our Mushroom Monarch deserves, but there’s no denying its infectious charm and cheerful sense of creativity. While Showtime! doesn’t match up to the escapades of her plumber pals, this spirited adventure - punctuated by heartwarming visuals, fun and varied stages, and a superb score - is worth a weekend of anyone’s time. Encore!

Princess Peach Showtime! only lasts around six hours and a couple more if you want to collect everything. It’s a breeze to get through and doesn’t offer much difficulty beyond collecting pesky gems, but it manages to give us a sampling of Peach’s potential as the star of future games.

Princess Peach: Showtime has a lot going for it, but it sometimes comes across as a concept demo for a larger game that will be much better. Peach shouldn't have to wait another 19 years for her next solo outing, but hopefully her next game takes the time to give the Mushroom Kingdom's princess a proper, full-scale adventure.

Princess Peach Showtime! is a fun, charming, and well made game. It has its issues, but very few that its intended audience will care about. Hopefully it gets a follow up that gets to iterate on the core ideas.

Princess Peach: Showtime! has so much to offer, but the overall length makes it feel like it’s not reached its full potential. Given its $60 price tag, you would expect more content. If the short playtime doesn’t concern you, though, Princess Peach: Showtime! is a fun and memorable little adventure that is absolutely worth your time.

With a focus on style over substance and a lack of any real friction in gameplay, Princess Peach: Showtime! is not going to provide a deeply engrossing experience. However, fans of the character and people looking for a relaxing jaunt into the dramatic arts will find plenty to enjoy

In the end, Princess Peach: Showtime! hits the mark way more often than it misses it. Despite not committing to the bit with its story, its aesthetics run wild with the theatrical premise, never failing to evoke glee. And while its shallow gameplay left me somewhat unsatisfied, the moments when it throws caution to the wind for train heists, table-flipping martial arts fights, and full-on space shooter segments are undeniably great. Princess Peach: Showtime’s simplicity and variety make it easy to recommend as a game for younger players. For everyone else, Princess Peach: Showtime! will probably leave you underwhelmed, but...

It feels like Princess Peach has been waiting for her big breakout role for a while now. Nintendo clearly has an inkling that “lady who keeps getting kidnapped by turtles” is a character description in need of a bit of an update as she was given a significant role in the Super Mario Bros. Movie and is playable more often than not in newer Mario games. Unfortunately, she still hasn’t received that solo adventure she deserves, with 2005’s Super Princess Peach not leaving much of an impression. Well, nearly two decades later Princess Peach: Showtime! sees the Mushroom Kingdom monarch...

While Princess Peach is a fixture of the Super Mario franchise as a whole, it’s been rare for her to step out on her own — the last Peach-centric title was almost two decades ago, with 2006’s Super Princess Peach on the Nintendo DS. In 2024, we finally have a second royal outing for our peachy protagonist, in Princess Peach Showtime.

Finally twirling out of the short chubby plumber shadow for her own proper starring role, Princess Peach: Showtime! gives everybody’s favourite princess a chance to shine on a literal stage, living out every gay theatre kid fantasy there is with charming aplomb. Excitingly, this is not just a Super Mario Bros. reskin with our pink-loving gal in charge, but rather a unique story, with unexpected gameplay twists and riffs on existing Nintendo formulas that give Peach her own little universe t...

We’ve played as Peach in plenty of Mario-starring games through the years, but not since 2005’s Super Princess Peach has the artist formerly known as Princess Toadstool been the exclusive protagonist of her own journey. Princess Peach: Showtime is a wholly original adventure with an impressive amount of unique mechanics, but it fails to reach the platforming heights Nintendo has attained with its other characters in the past.

Princess Peach: Showtime fills its short runtime with a tremendous variety of levels and transformations, elevating each with charming details and a surprising amount of spectacle. Its only real limitation is its own lack of ambition, leaving this a memorable adventure, but not one for the ages.

I was pleasantly surprised by Princess Peach: Showtime, and the aforementioned unpredictability is a huge reason why it will likely remain in my permanent rotation of Mario games going forward. I’d love to see Nintendo give more mascots a showcase like this, with a similar go-for-broke variety format. Keep ’em coming!

A disappointingly shallow and unfocused adventure that is aimed solely at a young audience – and even they’re likely to feel somewhat bored and patronised by the end.

There's a lot of imagination that comes through the game's set pieces, but I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that I hit more performance hitches than I'm used to from a first-party Nintendo title. As Peach opens up more of the Sparkle Theater, she'll be witness to some cool lighting and shadow effects, but these moments frequently lagged during my game. When I stepped through the basement door for Swordfighter Peach's third stage, I was thrown into an illuminated loading screen filled with swirling patterns and glowing lights, but the loading screen chugged, too. It's not often that a...

Princess Peach: Showtime! is a good game, but It will not be for everyone and those with decent gaming experience won’t find a challenge here... but that isn’t the point. This foray with Peach into acting scratches that itch of a game that is just a fun little time within minimal stress or worry – something we all need right now. Peach's adventure isn't anything groundbreaking, but the commitment to its theming and spades of the classic Nintendo charm make it worth sticking with until the curtain call.
