Remnant 2’s story is as obtuse as the secrets it keeps. But from a pure gameplay standpoint, it’s a phenomenal game and incredibly replayable whether you’re flying solo or with a couple of friends. It’s just a shame that so many of the game’s secrets were designed to be solved by a Google Search rather than the player.

Gunfire Games returns to the world of Remnant with exactly the kind of sequel a fan of the first game would want. Now if only it could get storytelling up to the same quality.

I cannot have enough of Remnant II’s fantastic co-op gameplay, especially thanks to its intense replayability. However, I do wish there had been more emphasis on the story to have something to root for along the way!

When it was released in 2019, Remnant: From The Ashes was a flawed, but incredibly successful soulslike. Instead of simply copying the popular genre, Gunfire Games decided to do something different by turning the genre on its head and focusing more on gunplay. It’s also a game I’ve revisited on multiple occasions, thanks to its fantastic core gameplay, and unique and refreshing ideas. Due to its surprising success a sequel was inevitable but I didn’t expect it to be this good.

You don’t need me to tell you how monolithic the Souls or even Souls-like genre is now. Kicking on for some time, we’ve now seen dozens upon dozens of games taking inspiration from the likes of FromSoftware games, or we’ve even seen downright copycats. Few become more than one-off attempts or pale imitations. Transcending this entirely is Remnant II, the follow-up to the wonderful 2019’s Remnant: From the Ashes. There’s a good reason that this is one of the only Soulslikes to get a...

Remnant II is a fantastic fantasy shooter, offering a dark and enticing series of worlds to explore, loot and conquer. Whether you’re playing solo or in co-op, this is easily one of the game experiences of the year.

A superior sequel sees Gunfire Games push the Remnant series to new heights. Those heights cause some nosebleeds, but they’re worth it to experience one of the most interesting action RPG experiences I’ve had in recent years.

Remnant II gives players a brutal and beautiful odyssey across time and space. It won't hold your hand, it will barely tell you where you're going or how to get there, but the adventure is certainly one worth experiencing.

Remnant: From the Ashes turned out to be an unexpectedly good production, so I expected at least the same from the sequel. To my surprise, I got much more! Remnant 2 is a title definitely worth recommending to anyone who appreciates a challenge.

There have been a good chunk of high profile action RPGs recently and Remnant II triumphs them when it comes to providing a fulfilling RPG experience.

The original Remnant: From the Ashes was a surprise success thanks to its Souls-inspired action combined with third-person shooting and randomized environments. The sequel is a refinement with new environments and expanded lore. I enjoyed my time with the game and its final boss and the shooting mechanics feel great, but Remnant II ultimately doesn’t do enough to separate itself from the genres and games that inspired it.

A few years after the surprisingly good original, we now have a sequel in the form of Remnant II and it makes for one impressive game.

For every sequel that manages to pull an Assassin's Creed II, there are many more that almost make it. Whether it's a result of not quite realising a project's full potential or introducing issues the original never had, these games are just as enjoyable as they are disappointing. Remnant II, a follow-up to the unexpectedly good Remnant: From the Ashes, is one of those titles. It builds upon the PS4 original with more mechanics and deeper systems, but a wider scope makes navigation and knowing what to do next more difficult than it needs to be. While Gunfire Games has...

Remnant 2’s revamped archetype system and improved world generation breathe new life into what otherwise remains an iterative sequel that sees no need to fix what isn’t broken. Great gunplay and creative weapon mods fuel its addictive moment-to-moment gameplay, while offering enough reasons to keep clearing dungeons, grinding materials, and upgrading or trying out new guns.

Building on everything that was great about the original -- from enemy variety to boss design to the means by which one can customize their play-style -- Remnant II just about scrapes by with a follow-up that befits the mantle of "bigger, better, bolder" in numerous ways. The dangling and unfortunately noted caveat is the current performance at launch. The almighty saving grace however -- and one that ultimately comes to frame Remnant II in more flattering colors -- is just how significantly more rewarding the sequel feels compared to the 2019 original. Superb execution on art-style, level design and...

A staggering improvement upon a solid foundation, Remnant 2 is an engrossing Soulslike that brings all the horror and joy of alien world exploration to wonderfully dark fruition.

Remnant II, however, manages to linger in my mind with its glow-up: memorable, impressive, and damningly fun.

Remnant II tickles greatness but falls short due to a few design choices. It is gorgeous, plays incredibly well, and should be one of the year’s best releases. I’m not sure if my issues with the game can be easily patched out, but I hope the devs at Gunfire Games give this one the same love the first game received over time.
