And while there’s multiple endings, weapons, costumes and modes to play around with in the campaign, Revelations 2’s deceptively deep Raid Mode is some great and amazing fun. Giving players control of wide range of characters, it gives you opportunity to run a gauntlet of enemies using custom load outs and abilities. Some abilities are basic, like improving the functionality of different classes of weapons. Others are bit weirder – allowing you to deal damage to enemies by taunting or even turning them against each other for a while. While the Raid Mode takes a while to get going, it’ll...

Resident Evil Revelations Collection bundles two of the better entries in the long-running survival horror series. The first game is hit-or-miss but the sequel is legitimately great, and the added portability and motion controls make the Switch port the definitive versions of these two games.

Resident Evil Revelations suffers from some problems, but none that stop it from being one of the stronger entries to the Resident Evil series.

A certain sense of porting laziness aside, this is a fine entry that stands proud in a storied franchise. Revelations 2 is a full fat Resident Evil experience with a neat partner system and some terrifyingly tense set pieces. There's a strong case to be made that you should ignore the original (especially if you've played it already) and simply purchase this prime slab of survival horror, but completionists won't be disappointed either way.

Capcom tries its hand at the episodic format and delivers a mostly well-paced adventure that errs on the side of action over horror.

Overall, Revelations 2 offers an engaging story that doesn't take itself too seriously, enjoyable co-op multiplayer, and a worthwhile reason to revisit the game thanks to its surprisingly addictive Raid Mode. Still, the game itself is far from a decent looking entry in the Resident Evil franchise, and that holds true for the enemies and the unimaginative areas that they fill. With that said, its discounted price makes the game an affordable and fun-filled romp for consumers.

Resident Evil's been in a bit of a rut of late, and Resident Evil: Revelations 2 never looked like it was going to break that cycle prior to release. With dated visuals, dodgy dialogue, and rudimentary third-person shooting, the title didn't exactly put its best foot forward in press previews. But this spin-off – a successor to the ex-Nintendo 3DS exclusive, Resident Evil: Revelations – is greater than the sum of its rotten parts, and a real return to form for Capcom's survival horror series. We're not kidding – this is the real undead deal.

Resident Evil: Revelations 2 brings back a few classic RE staples, but still won't please most longtime fans. Those seeking standard action will still enjoy the third-person shooter gameplay though.

I certainly wasn’t looking forward to playing the sequel to a game I never bothered completing. No game is worse to review than an average one, and that’s exactly what I was expecting out of Revelations 2. Ever since 2002, this franchise has been a slot-machine of people, time and place. On this occasion, the two returning characters from the repeating cast is Claire Redfield from RE2 and Barry Burton from RE1. The time is between 5 & 6, and the location is a mysterious island.

Revelations 2 is a great spin-off title, and manages the uncommon balancing act of making series fans happy while offering something new.

Resident Evil Revelations 2’s pulpy story, occasionally brilliant co-op gameplay, and excellent Raid mode balances out its dull environments and overused enemies. While I would have liked Capcom to have aimed higher, this is a mostly enjoyable horror experience, albeit an unmemorable one.

Tradition is strong with Resident Evil Revelations 2 and probably too much so as this jumbled story wrecks an appreciable "made for TV" episodic form.

It might not reach the dizzy heights of seminal Resident Evil, but Resident Evil: Revelations 2 is nonetheless a solid fleshy slab of survival horror that represents great value for money and a fun few hours of infected freak shooting.

An argument could be made for the weekly content additions Raid mode, the game's competitive multiplayer, which isn't considered in this review. There are also bonus episodes that detail how characters like Natalia survived on the island during the six month gap between Claire and Barry's stories. However, these are things that could have been easily included in a straightforward game release.
