Whilst this isn’t a game that represents great value, it’s still excellent fun. Bowser’s Fury is a nice, if a little short, addition to a game which didn’t get the attention it deserved due to the failure of the Wii U.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury is a fantastic package that any Mario fan should own. Super Mario 3D World might not be the most unique Mario, but it sure is fun. With Bowser's Fury as an extra mode, it's a smash hit.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury is a game that every Switch owner needs to get their hands on, especially if they’ve been a longtime Mario and Nintendo fan. Pairing the base game with the new Bowser’s Fury expansion creates a phenomenal blend of 2D platforming from a 3D perspective. It allows the player to further explore these mechanics in a more open-world environment while portraying Bowser in a new light.

This happens over multiple phases over the four- to six-hour adventure and constantly keeps the experience fresh. Bowser’s Fury is never particularly hard — you’ll always have power-ups at your disposal and only lose 50 coins when you die — but it’s one of the most exciting 3D Mario games yet. It’s the near-purrfect marriage of 2D and 3D Mario we’ve been waiting for.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury contains two excellent Mario games, but is unfortunately held back by frustrating controls, especially in multiplayer, and a lot of waiting in Bowser’s Fury when going for 100%. If you can get past that though, you’re in for some of the best 3D platforming Mario has to offer.

I thought I knew what I was getting into with Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury. Nintendo has now released remasters of basically all of the Wii U’s most acclaimed games, polishing them up with only a few additions sprinkled here and there. For people who haven’t played these games before, it’s nice to get to experience some overlooked classics. But for those of us who owned the Wii U, there’s usually not a great deal of value outside of the better visuals and performance. This new Switch remaster is a pleasant surprise, then, as its new Bowser’s Fury...

Bowser's Fury is great while it lasts, but it is admittedly short, and so Super Mario 3D World's high price tag on Switch may be hard to swallow for those that have already played through the game on Wii U. Double-dipping makes more sense for someone who is wanting to take advantage of Super Mario 3D World's online co-op functionality, but other returning players may want to wait for a sale. However, anyone that hasn't played Super Mario 3D World on the Wii U should go out and buy Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury on Switch immediately, as...

Super Mario 3D World was already a fantastic Mario title that alone made it worth owning a Wii U back in the day. The inclusion of Bowser's Fury fixes the character speed and the addition of online have made this one of the greatest Mario experiences to date. It's hard to put into words the pure joy and chaos this enhanced port has brought, but considering the main campaign was already fantastic alone, it's only been improved tenfold by the ability to bring it online and make for some of the most enjoyable chaos to ever exist in the Mushroom...

To be clear, I’d still wholly recommend this version of 3D World even without Bowser’s Fury. The tweaks are small overall, and Bowser’s Fury isn’t going to sate the most hardcore of Mario fans looking for a brand new game, but the package as a whole is magical. If you were one of the many who missed out on this Wii U classic, fix that.

Super Mario 3D World holds up every bit as well in 2021 as it did in 2013, if not better. It's one of the best Mario games ever produced, made even better if you have friends or family to join in on the fun. Bowser's Fury isn't a long experience, but it's a lot of fun in its own way. What both games have in common is that they build on ideas from previous Mario games in such a way that you always want to see what's next.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury continues Nintendo’s long-running strategy of shepherding all of their Wii U classics onto the far more popular Nintendo Switch. The latest title repackages the 2013 platformer for the hybrid console, along with bundling a whole new exclusive game mode. Bringing along some mechanical and presentation tweaks for returning players, hopefully this game will finally reach a broader audience. The end result is a fantastic and diverse platformer, with a comp...

Super Mario 3D World is one of the last Wii U exclusives to see a revival on Switch. But unlike most of the Wii U’s greatest hits, it arrives with significant new content in the form of Bowser’s Fury. While we are hesitant to recommend Wii U owners double dip on most Switch reruns for a comparable experience, at full price, this one is different. The double package is worth the price of admission for Bowser’s Fury — so long as you have some interest in replaying 3D World. For the mill...

Is Bowser’s Fury the future of Mario? I doubt it. The formula has worked too well for too long to go too far down this antagonistic open-world path. But I hope we see similar diversions from Nintendo in the future, new ways for the familiar to surprise us.

Aside from some repetition between the two titles, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury is a joy from start to finish. Super Mario 3D World is the perfect balance between Old Mario and New Mario, and its huge variety of levels ensures it’s nothing but entertaining from start to finish. Bowser’s Fury, on the other hand, leans more into modern, open world design, but the thrill of fighting against a giant version of Bowser is unrivalled. If you’re a Mario fan – hell, if you’re just a fan of having fun – Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury...

It feels like once every WiiU game has been ported to the Switch, the WiiU itself will cease to be. Each WiiU will shake off the dust it has gathered for years under the tv and ascend into the sky, lost in a flash of glorious light. And maybe at that point, we can acknowledge that while the console itself had some issues, the games developed for it maintained and cultivated Nintendo’s legacy.

When Super Mario 3D World was released in 2013, the adventure was widely praised for its outstanding level design, precise gameplay, and chaotic co-op. However, since it debuted on the poor-selling Wii U, it is often overlooked in discussions about the best games in the Mario franchise. Now, Nintendo is giving a wider audience a chance to play the superb 3D adventure (this time with online co-op) while also adding an all-new experience in a fun side game called Bowser’s Fury.

I can't really recommend Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury enough. Whether you've played the original game before or not, the addition of online multiplayer is a big win, while Bowser's Fury is a testament to just how pure a Mario game can be while still feeling fresh and exciting. Put simply; this is an essential game for Mario fans.

Bowser's Fury is yet another example of Nintendo's ingenious innovation to ensure its most iconic mascot remains relevant. Its shortcomings are both literal in terms of its duration and minor, with its iffy performance in handheld mode, and cookie cutter copying from Super Mario 3D World. They're so minor, though, that ultimately my biggest complaint is there isn't more of it.

In total, there are 100 Cat Shines to collect, with every handful of them unlocking access to the Giga Bell - which will transform Mario into his Giga Cat form - and queue up a fight with Fury Bowser. The mechanic is not unlike the various boss fights staged within Super Mario 64, with each new Bowser encounter becoming available as Stars are rounded up, albeit one explored within one massive, singular world. It's a new twist on a proven concept, but what makes it work so well is the sprawling open-world environment that's ripe for exploring and the powerups...

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury packs a tonne of engaging gameplay, but neither component comes together as elegantly as it might have done. This is a solid option if you’re craving more Super Mario for your Switch, but it’s not the moustachioed must-play I was hoping for.
