“The Definitive Edition of Tomb Raider is a marginal presentational enhancement to the undeniably excellent 2013 release.”

The PlayStation 4 is an amazing console and like the XBox One is slightly hampered by quality launch titles but to help fill this void, Square Enix have

Unless you’ve been living under a rock you’ve likely played, or at least heard of, the Tomb Raider reboot that was released to consoles back in March of 2013. A franchise that was at great risk of drowning in mediocrity and fading away was given one more chance to come up for air and start fresh. The team at Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics managed to not only breathe new life into Lara Croft but also give the franchise legs to carry on even further. By all accounts it was one of the best games of 2013 diving into Lara Croft’s origin story and how she became the tomb raiding adventurer we all know and love.

The upstep in visual detail from the older console versions is a nice bonus, but Tomb Raider didn’t need massaging. It’s the same well-realised action reboot for Lara Croft that came as such a pleasant surprise last year. It’s still well-written, sympathetic, exciting, beautiful, and just incredibly well-made.

If you're wondering whether it's worth picking up again, then that would depend on how much you enjoyed the Xbox 360 version. We feel that Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is an expertly paced adventure, packed with gorgeous environments, vicious but wonderfully satisfying combat, elegant controls and a fairly competent story to boot. It all comes together in a well-crafted package that successfully puts Lara Croft back in the spotlight. If you never had the chance to experience the game a year ago, then the Definitive Edition is an absolute no-brainer. In fact, we’re even slightly envious of those people that waited, because Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is one of the Xbox One's best games.

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition lives up to its name in providing a stunning adventure that looks gorgeous running on PS4.

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is a tough sell for those who have already embarked on Lara’s adventure, but those who have never played it will find a lot to like here, and the numerous upgrades make this the best version available to those without access to a gaming PC.

Rather than force you to sit through a string of paragraphs longer than the average historical textbook, we’ll get straight to the point: Lara Croft’s next generation debut looks the part on the PlayStation 4. Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition may be little more than a cleaned up retread of last year’s dirty day-trip to Yamatai, but it’s arguably one of the best showcases of Sony’s expensive new tech yet. The big question is: are the visual enhancements enough to encourage you to test your endurance levels all over again?

Tomb Raider is a fantastic solo adventure. Admittedly, I couldn’t help but wish my first experience with Tomb Raider was the Definitive One. If you come into Tomb Raider, this “Definitive Edition, thinking that it’s anything more than a shinier port, you’ll likely leave disappointed.

With an emphasis on improved graphics, this PlayStation 4 port is the best Tomb Raider yet. Unfortunately, this Definitive Edition doesn't add enough new content to warrant a second purchase. If you have somehow missed out on Lara's newest adventure, then Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is a must buy.

Straight away, there are multiple things I don't like about Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition. I didn't like them when I reviewed the Macintosh release in 2014, and I don't like them now. But with the initial shock of Lara's dark turn a decade out of the way, it's easier to enjoy the game for what it is.Read More

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is another bare minimum remaster from Aspyr, which doesn't give Lara or the Switch 2 the attention they deserve.

The Tomb Raider reboot, released in 2013, was a game I had known a lot about ever since its launch, but had never had the chance of playing. Don’t ask me why: I did play its sequels, found them to be painfully okay, and never bothered thinking about them ever again. But everyone has always told me the first game in the reboot trilogy was, supposedly, the best one. I knew the buzz surrounding its violent content, its focus on Lara’s growth as a character, and the fact it had to compete hea...

I was absolutely wowed by this game the first time I played it through because I was paying so much attention to the cut scenes and redesigned Lara Croft was a joy to behold. The Definitive Edition adds a few neat little features like alternative costumes and a comic book describing the events before the game, and I can’t remember that being in the original game release. But having had a year to sit and consider the game’s broader meaning, the second time around the game’s flaws are all the more apparent.

The Definitive Edition includes all the previous DLC that was released on PS3 and 360 last year. This includes all of the Multiplayer maps and also the additional costumes that were released. There is one small nit pick from this release. I feel that the developers could’ve tried to ensure that people who bought the original game had a reason to come back. Sure people who loved the game as much as me are going to double dip, but I feel like they could’ve added in some new tombs or even a horde mode of types to get more people to double dip.
