Tetsuya Takahashi, creator and director of Xenogears, Xenosaga, and Xenoblade, is a creative genius. His story of success despite constant failure is an intriguing one I’ll do my best not to bore you with now. What matters is that ever since 1998’s release of the ambitious unfinished masterpiece that is Xenogears, Takahashi’s spent his career trying to complete that vision. He left Square Enix and founded Monolith Soft in order to pursue it. His time at Namco was spent trying to recreat...

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 gracefully fuses story and gameplay in a masterful conclusion to the Klaus saga. It draws from earlier games in ways that will satisfy long time fans, while also firmly establishing its own world and characters. Aionios is a beautiful world to explore, with a rich history and fascinating conflict. The characters that stand at the center of this tale are some of the deepest, most relatable people in gaming history with a fantastic english dub backing them up. This is a game that will keep you engaged for hundreds of hours, and even stick with you well...

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 has incredible presentation values and a rewarding combat system, but the story leaves much to be desired. It’s an improvement over its predecessor in a number of categories, but lacks a charismatic main cast of characters to drive it home. A few of them do have spunk, such as Lanz and Senna, but the others are unremarkable to the degree we kept forgetting they were even part of the story. It doesn’t help that the script can be unbearable at times and the plot can be overly predictable. Despite all of this, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 features an...
Read Full ReviewThe gripping story of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will resonate with many players, with an emotional conclusion that will make this game a memorable experience and standard for JRPG narratives moving forward. Combine this with a lovely, albeit crowded, combat system, and this Xenoblade stands above the rest in the series quickly as the best among them.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is the strongest JRPG in the modern Nintendo catalog, and is among the greatest games on the Nintendo Switch, and can potentially stand the test of time when considered among other platforms and generations as well. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a culmination of everything that is good about this series. The excellent cast of characters, the boundlessly imaginative and grandiose world, the captivating and ambitious narrative, the dense and deeply engaging combat, progression, and exploration- this is a game that shines bright in almost every area that matters. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is not just the best game in its series and by its developer, but also arguably among the greatest games on its system and in its genre.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a massive undertaking that hits some extremely high points while only presenting a few issues like the performance struggles at times due to the Switch’s limitations. I fell in love with the cast almost immediately, and I can’t wait to see their stories progress in future DLC. This is a game that is going to sit with me for years and is a very serious Game of the Year contender.

The struggle of Noah, Mio, and their friends was engaging pretty much right from the start, especially given their bitter rivalry and how they come to trust and rely on one another. Their fight to survive this inhospitable world and put an end to the war that has defined their lives makes for an emotional journey aided by a gorgeous soundtrack that had me crying out loud in joy for their victories. The deep and engaging combat, customization, and exploration alongside the excellent music and narrative are all sorts...

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a genuine masterpiece and the highlight of Monolith Soft's superb series thus far. There's an emotionally-charged and surprisingly edgy epic to get stuck into here, a sprawling and hugely engaging narrative populated by a cast of unforgettable characters that's backed up by some of the very best combat we've had the pleasure of getting to grips with in this genre to date. Over 100 hours into this one, we're as captivated now as we were when we first booted it up and it has more than delivered every bit of the adventure, emotion, and action that...

While I enjoyed exploring the world and mechanics of Xenoblade 3, the story is what stuck with me. This is the best Xenoblade story yet, and that’s really saying something. When Xenoblade Chronicles 3 wasn’t bringing a smile to my face, it was breaking my heart over and over again. There’s no doubt this will go down as one of the year’s best JRPGs.

While Xenoblade Chronicles has always been a franchise to swing big with its settings, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 certainly takes the award for highest concept. While previous titles have taken place on the backs of living titans or dead colossi, this instead introduces an alien setting through its premise.

Glimmering in streaks of peach fire, the sun sinks lazily beyond the horizon, ceding the last remaining bastions of its shine from a desolate battlefield. A piper, flanked by two filthy, battle-weary companions raises an instrument to his lips and begins to play a low, wistful melody. As the melancholic elegy echoes through the air, the blood-soaked plains slowly begin to glow, as the fallen warriors strewn across their barren expanse return their life force to the ether as gentle, flickering...

Xenoblade Chronicles X is a landmark achievement in RPGs unmatched in depth, scope and beauty. While it suffers from a few common RPG issues like grind and fetch-quests, the overall quality of the experience far exceeds anything in competitors like recent Final Fantasy or Elder Scrolls titles. If you have the courage, Xenoblade Chronicles X offers a quest hundreds of hours long and rich in unforgettable moments.

Open world games are officially the norm. The tight halls of Shadow Moses have given way to sprawling deserts in Metal Gear Solid, I’ve travelled farther in Velen on my horse in The Witcher 3 than I ever have without a vehicle in real life and I’ve spent more time climbing towers in a myriad of games than I care to remember, to be honest. It’s amongst this “Open World Fatigue” that I’ve jumped into Xenoblade Chronicles X, a game whose scale promises yet more predictable MMO style fetch quests and linear exploration. Or at least, that’s what I’d feared.

So bad news. Earth has been destroyed by aliens, the spaceship that made it out of harm’s way has crash-landed on a distant planet and it’s your job to sort out this mess. What a bummer, right?

Xenoblade Chronicles 3D gives a whole new meaning to the term, “standing on the shoulders of giants.” This adaptation of the Wii classic has you take control of a young man, Shulk, searching for answers about his mysterious weapon, the Monado Blade. The game takes place on a world made up of the fallen forms of two titans Bionis and Mechonis. Bionis is home to the biological life forms and Mechonis is home to the mechanical life forms.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3D shrinks an epic RPG into a nifty portable form. Even though the New 3DS’ speedier hardware can’t make it look quite as good as it does on the Wii, its scope and scale still make it an impressive and deep game that’s well suited for play on the go.

Xenoblade Chronicles reminds me of why I fell in love with RPGs in the first place. From the thrill of stepping into a vast land with endless possibilities to the surge of a hard-fought battle against larger-than-life creatures, Xenoblade holds plenty of excitement. Even now, three years after the original release on Wii, the journey is as fun as I remember. Xenoblade Chronicles 3D is your chance to find out what you missed, or remind yourself why you hold the game in high regard.
