I never really explored, I just found the combo blueprints marked on my minimap and then headed off on my merry way. I love that the game is structured in a way that keeps you finding new stuff, but it kind of feels like being told I have a surprise party. I still enjoy the end result, I just knew what was coming; this can be narrowed down to preference however and it’s probably a change for the better. While you’re scouring the open world for combo blueprints you’re going to come across some blueprints for the new addition, combo...

The successful launch of a console usually comes down a handful of contributing factors, one of the biggest deciders however is usually the games the console launches with, these games give perspective players an opportunity to see what the console could offer them and if your games are underwhelming you might be overlooked. At the current time Microsoft’s Xbox One has not exactly been the biggest console around and part of this is because of the offerings, when the Xbox One first launched we received a handful of games which were already available for the older consoles and a handful...

“Dead Rising 3 scores points for its huge zombie hordes and iterative improvements, but it's clear this is a series that could stand to evolve into something more.”

Dead Rising 3 is a step forward for the series as it finally finds the confidence to expand its setting, which is mostly down to better hardware being available. Hopefully the focus going forward can be put on fleshing out more of its mechanics and not just creating larger areas, like perhaps a more in-depth survivor posse system for example. If you feel some things were better off as they were then the game’s Nightmare Mode will surely appeal as it restricts you to saving only at set point...

- By default the game is locked to 30FPS. You can unlock it by creating a text file called user.ini containing just the line "gmpcr_unlock_frame_rate = True" with no quotes, and putting that file in the same directory as the game's executable. However, in my experience the frame rate has been wildly inconsistent once unlocked.

Dead Rising 3 provides plenty of zombie killing fun and is a great game to pick up if you bought an Xbox One. Newcomers to the series will find an incredibly fun game with tons of replay value and co-op fun. Returning fans will find the same thing but may be turned off a bit due to the fact that the core game hasn't really changed all that much. My opinion as a huge fan of the Dead Rising games? Don't fix what isn't broken.

There is something about open world sandbox style games we all love. Whether it be Saints Row IV or Grand Theft Auto V, we seem to have no problem dropping some hard earned cash on a game that gives us that ability to explore an open world setting, complete endless side missions, and plow through a single player story at our own pace. Now let’s take that sandbox style game and throw in thousands, check that more like hundreds of thousands of zombies scattered everywhere. To the point where it feels completely suffocating. That is essentially what you get in...

Standing in a mankini, wearing a Blanka mask and wielding a phallic-shaped flamethrower with the propane tanks attached like testicles, Dead Rising 3 well and truly brings the ridiculous whilst delivering a semi-serious narrative to the zombie slaughtering. It's utterly crazy and equally fun and with its improved visuals, increased size of the open-world playground, density of items and zombies and tweaks to the established formula, it delivers a great action game. There's nowhere near enough changes to bring in new players, but series fans are well catered for here. Despite the uninspired side missions, Dead Rising 3 is a...
Read Full ReviewIt's no surprise that Dead Rising 3 is not a game for everyone. That fact has become synonymous with the series. While it may not push the boundaries of next-gen in the conventional graphical sense, Dead Rising manages to do something special for the Xbox One's launch lineup. It may not be the hardware showcase that people want but rather, it is that rare gem that, despite all its flaws, remains an immense joy to play. The world feels oppressive and, while the story may not hook you, it's clear that great care was put into crafting a zombie-killing experience...

Dead Rising 3 gets a lot of things right. It presents a massive open world filled with possibilities and features the first truly impressive use of scale in a game based on a zombie outbreak. But the game’s difficulty spikes — due to its control and inventory issues — and boring, stereotype-laden writing can be difficult to swallow. There’s a very good game lurking inside of Dead Rising 3 — but it feels a little unsteady on its feet.

Dead Rising 3 doesn’t get by on its looks, but its meaty zombie-slaying combat and nearly endless supply of undead and ridiculous weapons go a long way. Through its lengthy campaign, I was always eager to see what crazy zombie-squishing contraption would come along next. It rarely disappointed, except when navigating its snarled map and waiting out its load times took me out of the fight took too long.

In a new generation of hardware with several multi-platform, cross-generation launch titles, many gamers are struggling to point out exactly how the new hardware unlocks new possibilities — Dead Rising 3 stands as a clear example. The winding city streets are packed sidewalk to sidewalk with more zombies than you could count, and turning the asphalt red with their blood is as fun as ever. However, the technical leap in the undead population comes with its share of distracting bugs.

Dead Rising 3 is the weakest in the series, then. It's no kind of technical showcase for Xbox One, although that didn't really bother me once I got into it, and if all you want for a launch title is something passably entertaining to plug away at for a few long evenings, it will suit you fine. Just beware, once you get over the pleasure of the first few combo weapons, Dead Rising 3 is just a solid zombie brawler set in an open world, not the strange game of tender heart that used to be so funny and surprising.

It’s a new day, a new dawn for the next-generation consoles and the Dead Rising franchise. Easily Microsoft’s best launch title and the very definition of a killer-app, if Dead Rising 3’s environmental depth and detail is a sign of things to come for the new generation of consoles, get ready to bask in the glory that is open-world games. Dead Rising 3 is an undead treat.
