LEGO 2K Drive is a great family-friendly racer with plenty on offer for everyone to enjoy. Great races, an in-depth car builder and side activities flesh out the game that's only marred by microtransactions and a lack of character creator.
Read Full ReviewLEGO 2K Drive is at its best when it focuses on the last word of its title - driving around and taking part in wild and wacky side missions as you run into them is the best way to tackle this open world racer. The actual racing lets it down a touch, and we think the game is a bit pricey for its presentation levels, but this is still a fun and varied affair for all the family. If you're itching for a bonkers LEGO-themed take on Forza Horizon this pretty much nails it, just don't expect the same levels...

Lego 2K Drive is a breezy kart-like racing game with plenty of things to do, a unique twist in its customisation options and overall, the kind of fun you’d expect from a Lego game - although its microtransactions leave an uneasy taste in the mouth.
Read Full ReviewA Legofied open-world racer of bright humour and drift-heavy handling, scuffed by baggage and busywork.

All in all, LEGO 2K Drive satisfies any craving for brick-racing that you may have had in the past with A+ class but still is rough around the edges because of its microtransaction system.

A solid kart racer enhanced by the ability to build your own Lego vehicles—but its greedy microtransactions are a brick too far.
Read Full ReviewWhat if Forza Horizon merged with Mario Kart and made all the cars Lego? Sounds pretty good, right? It’s also the simplest way of describing Lego 2K Drive, the slightly out of nowhere open-world kart racer from 2K and Visual Concepts. Serving up a series of sizeable and aggressively colourful biomes to explore, and the kind of drift-heavy racing that seasoned Mushroom Kingdom drivers will feel right at home with, the first game to emerge from a new partnership between 2K and Lego is definitely onto something. And like any good Lego game, it absolutely encourages you to smash everything...

Mixing LEGO bricks with an open-world cart racing experience, LEGO 2K Drive is lighthearted fun that could build way more with its working parts.

The licensed racer from 2K and Visual Concepts is a delightful combination of open-world and kart racers, with tons of Lego customization to boot.

Growing up, my only avenue for trying the newest and coolest video games was to head to Blockbuster. It was a magical place with an atmosphere that, to this day, nothing has come close to emulating. Even as I sit here writing, there’s a powerful sense of nostalgia in the pit of my stomach. Fond memories of navigating through aisles, looking at whatever caught my eye, are flooding in. I vividly recall grabbing an Anime VHS, which turned out to be my first exposure to softcore Hentai, thus my...

From playing many LEGO adventure games in my time, I was pretty excited to see what LEGO could do with an open world racing game. LEGO 2K Drive isn’t the first time LEGO has explored the world of racing; in 1999 they released the single player LEGO Racers and its sequel in 2001. Ever since then however, LEGO hasn’t delved into the genre. That is, until now. With 2K coming along for the ride, I was even more ready and excited to put some LEGO to the metal and drift around the world of Bric...

Lego 2K Drive is a neat little racing game with quite possibly the coolest car creation tools I have ever encountered. While I find myself unable to make anything besides the most rudimentary vehicle, there will be some astonishing creations in the game before long. Despite some issues with side activities, this is still a decent game if you want to ditch the realistic racing games for bricks on wheels.

As I said at the top of this review, I think LEGO 2K Drive is a legitimately good racer. It handles well, it runs at an unshakable frame rate on PS5, the vehicle workshop is easy-to-use, and the track designs, while sorely limited in theme, complement the eccentricities of the gameplay. When I’m playing through the Cup Series either against the AI or online, I’m having a great time. It’s when I go back into the story mode that I’m reminded these worlds are rather basic, the monetization is questionable, and there just isn’t enough content in it right now.

But despite the questionable MTXs and some “rookie errors” when it comes to the open world, I had a blocky good time with LEGO 2K Drive in the past week or so. A bright, colourful and exciting open world that spreads LEGO love from all its pores is explored via an excellent driving model with transforming vehicles, which is then also applied to high-octane and high-destruction races across vastly different biomes. Content drought is also not a term the game should ever be bothered with, as there’s already plenty of events, big open world hubs with tons of collectibles, an...

The main open-world story campaign of LEGO 2K Drive gives players a chance to drive around various biomes of Bricklandia and explore at their own pace. Everything in this world is made from LEGO pieces, which means that nearly everything can be destroyed by running into it, and this chaotic demolition is encouraged as the best way to repair a vehicle. In typical LEGO-game fashion, the NPCs provide a lot of comedic relief, and the entire world is filled with silly things to find through exploration. There are also many collectibles hidden in various areas, which provides completionists with countless...

Best known for working on the publisher’s WWE and NBA games, Visual Concepts has found itself behind the wheel of 2K’s latest licensed experiment. Lego 2K Drive is a high-octane competitive racer full of destructible brick-y environments to crash through and a kid-friendly narrative full of fourth-wall-breaking fun.

Lego 2K Drive does an incredible job of bringing Lego racing to life; it’s unashamedly creative, consistently energetic, and confidently amusing. It's the kind of game that can bring families together in front of a screen, and away from it.

The racing is addictive, vehicle customization is deep, the world is charming, and there is much to see and do in LEGO 2K Drive. Some minor speed bumps are baked-in, but they cannot stop this otherwise solid racer.

There's fun to be had with LEGO 2K Drive's snappy driving mechanics, vibrant biomes, and creation and customization mechanics, but issues such as its inconsistent AI, dull open world implementation, and somewhat grindy progression hold the experience back.

Lego has always been about exploring possibilities and it seems those in charge of the franchise are looking to do just that in regards to video games. For years Lego games were dominated by the various licensed open-world beat ‘em ups from developer TT Games, and while those aren’t going away, other publishers and developers are now being allowed to join in on the fun. Lego and 2K Games have announced a new “multi-title partnership,” with the first result of the deal being Lego 2K Drive, a new racing game coming from NBA 2K and WWE 2K developer Visual Concepts.

It’s safe to say that 2K and Visual Concepts have hit the ball out of the park with LEGO 2K Drive. We haven’t had this much fun with an open world racing game since Forza Horizon 4. The racing action is tense and chaotic, the open worlds are a pleasure to explore, and everything is just so varied. Everything pretty much is awesome when it comes to LEGO 2K Drive, resulting in a game that’s fun for all ages and skill levels. And the coup de grâce is the vehicle builder, allowing you to truly let your imagination run wild.

Other than having vague missions at times to get to story-essential races, LEGO 2K Drive is an incredible time. There's so much fun to be had that it's impossible to be bored by anything that goes on and the mission variety is far more of a blessing than a curse -- although work does need to be done to explain how to accomplish mission objectives. The racing action itself is top-shelf and a fantastic basis for a long-term series if that works out. The roots of arcade-racing fun are here, with a lot of depth to the gameplay thanks to...

Imagine Forza Horizon 5 rebuilt with LEGO and that's pretty much what you're getting with LEGO 2K Drive. Visual Concepts has delivered an exemplary open-world racing game that's family friendly without being too simplistic, and one which works superbly in split-screen co-op.
