The addition of a co-op multiplayer mode will appeal to anyone looking for a little shared zombie-survival; and you’ll find yourself getting surprisingly attached to your characters, despite the fact they have relatively little backstory. State of Decay 2’s experience will boil down to how talented you are at surviving. The game challenges you to last for as long as possible. It has its moments where it can drag on, and if you’re after a game where you just want to kill mindlessly, this isn’t for you. Zombie survival simulator though? It does what it set out to achieve.

If you can put up with a game that isn't quite state of the industry when it comes to visual fidelity and performance, there's a fun zombie survival game underneath it all.

State of Decay 2 is a fun and immersive sim... when it works. There are some bugs and a few odd design choices, but the game does what it sets out to do well.

State of Decay 2 isn't a bad game but it doubles down on too much of the first game's failings. For newcomers, the repetitive combat and mission variety, glitches and lack of polish can be a turnoff but the base-building and survivor management manage to shine.
