I’m addicted to this game, especially playing it with friends. Playing solo gives you that constant on edge feeling, but when you’re playing with friends it can lessen that – unless your friends are just as on edge as you are.
State of Decay 2 is yet another adventure of slaying zombies, micromanagement and well, staying alive. Fun, interesting and a decent follow-up to the original game.
When the issues of a game are rolled and stomped by its greatness, then it’s something to invest on if you have some spare.
What it really comes down to for State of Decay 2 is that unless you like games with slow resource gathering grinds, and don’t mind an odd bug here or there, this game isn’t going to be for you. The multiplayer can be enjoyable with friends, but at the end of the day, it just barely sets itself above the previous game in the series. State of Decay 2’s experience will boil down to how talented you are at surviving. The game challenges you to last for as long as possible. It has its moments where it can drag on, and if you’re after a game where you just want to kill mindlessly, this isn’t for you. Zombie survival simulator though? It does what it set out to achieve.
State of Decay 2 makes some improvements over the original game but falls short due to its skeletal story structure and being riddled with a terrible amount of bugs that we can only hope will eventually be fixed.
State of Decay 2 has some fun additions that can keep things interesting. Just not quite interesting enough (especially when contending with a clutch of performance issues).
Due to its numerous technical issues and underwhelming gameplay, it's difficult to give State of Decay 2 a wide recommendation. However, it's easy to see how the game will appeal to a certain group of players, particularly those who consider themselves fans of the original game. And, since State of Decay 2 is available through Xbox Game Pass, anyone who is signed up for Microsoft's Netflix-like game distribution service might as well give it a shot. Finally, State of Decay 2 is a good game that lacks a bit of ambition when it comes to deliver certain things such as multiplayer and other core mechanics that could’ve been smoothed up. At any rate, it must be valued for what it is at the base: a game that is sold at $29,99 and, in the tradition of the original, will look into expansions in order to get bigger and more filled with content. State of Decay 2 earned its place as one of my favorite games years ago. As the updates continued, it further cemented itself there. I always say the best stories a game can tell, are the ones you generate yourself. Every community, whether you succeed or fail, generates those stories. From dramatic suspense where you rush to cure an infected survivor to the blockbuster action moments of bailing out of an exploding car amid a swarm of hungry zombies. It’s all there.
We bolted for the van as fast as we could as an angry mob of the undead began to close in. We were low on ammo, one of us infected, and we needed to get back to home base to administer the plague virus cure. We were low on fuel as well but had at least enough to get back home.
