Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector uses an explosive beginning to rip the amnesiac Sleeper protagonist away from any familiarity, forcing them to endure a journey through the stars riddled with stress, unrest, and a foe constantly on their tail. But it’s those feelings, that unavoidable discomfort, that push Sleeper into new friendships, communities, and trials of trust that ultimately prove it’s not about the destination – it’s about the journey. Buoyed by the excellent returning dic...

Citizen Sleeper 2 shakes up its own already stellar formula in a way that’s fresh and innovative whilst also dialing the stress to 11. Its scope is larger and more ambitious but also maintains that fragile beauty of the world and its inhabitants. There's a lot to uncover here for new and existing players, but be careful, this time around it doesn't hold your hand but leaves you flailing around in space. But once you find your feet, you’ll find that you can never tire of Citizen Sleeper’...

Citizen Sleeper is, in my opinion, one of the best narrative games ever produced. It deals with massive themes of self, sacrifice, desperation, and the impact of choice in such a way that you can agonise over every story beat. It would always be a tough act to follow, but that follow up has arrived in Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector, bringing a new story, a wider location, and with added gameplay mechanics.

I don’t want the glitz and gloss of Starfield, Star Wars Outlaws, or Cyberpunk 2077. I want grounded, punchy stories about nobodies, and that’s what Citizen Sleeper 2 is. What a fantastic start to 2025.

Jump Over the Age's Citizen Sleeper gave players a delightful surprise with its sci-fi visual novel prose and die-rolling gameplay. Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector offers a triumphant return to hope in an era of deep space capitalist collapse.

Citizen Sleeper 2 is an excellent example of a polished sequel, continuing all the things that made its predecessor a beloved indie darling while building upon and expanding those systems with some new and interesting ideas of its own. The decision-driven narrative, tense RPG systems, and incredible soundtrack all come together to make for a game that is almost impossible to put down once you get pulled in. Newcomers who want to see what all the fuss is about will enjoy this as much as players who loved the first game - Citizen Sleeper 2 stands tall as a worthy...

Wake up Sleeper, your emancipation was more than just a pleasant dream. It happened while your eyes were closed, but they’re open now. It’s not too late to take that last step into the freedom of the Starward Belt. Just… don’t wait too long.

Forgive me in advance, for I couldn’t resist: the original Citizen Sleeper was indeed a sleeper hit, a narrative choose-your-own-adventure journey that I picked up simply because it happened to be on Xbox Game Pass. I fell in love almost instantly, enraptured in its sci-fi, ever so dystopian world.

2025 is off to an excellent start with Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector; as it improves upon its predecessor in every capacity. In large part due to its stellar characters and writing, Citizen Sleeper 2 stands as a remarkable achievement not only in the video game space, but in the sci-fi genre as a whole.

With more dicey systems and crew management than the first Citizen Sleeper, this sequel risks losing some of its storytelling heart, even if it remains a well-crafted sci-fi world.

Citizen Sleeper 2 didn't really hold my attention, but the game does run well on Steam Deck aside from a couple of issues.

Citizen Sleeper 2 is terrific. There are few other games that can reach out like this and clutch as unerringly at my heart, and few other games I would want to.
Read Full ReviewCitizen Sleeper 2 is everything you could want from a sequel, building on its predecessor's strengths in storytelling and character design while also bringing new complexity to the dice and clocks that govern its capitalist dystopia.

Don’t let that dissuade you, though. Overall, Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector does a fantastic job of building on the first game without feeling bloated or stepping on its own toes. It shares with its predecessor a fascination for exploring deep themes, letting its excellent writing breathe and some truly stunning illustrated characters. All while continuing to fold in some plot beats that get your heart rate up. New mechanics keep things fresh without undermining the beautiful simplicit...

Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector fine tunes the slow-paced, dice-heavy gameplay of the original with its new and aptly named stress system and multi-stage, multi-character missions.

Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector is a smart sequel in that it takes everything that worked from the stellar first and expands, but the novelty of the original – which was quietly transformative for anyone interested in the genre – is a difficult lightning to capture in a bottle twice. It works, and works well, but the success of Citizen Sleeper also set the bar impossibly high.

Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector tells a radical science fiction tale through an impeccably designed system and a moving narrative rife with themes that are acutely attuned to our times. This is bolstered by a crew of companions who are not only well-fleshed out but offer genuine support during crises - a predicament you’ll find yourself in frequently. The soothing atmospheric soundtrack doesn’t hurt, either.

Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector, the sequel to 2022’s indie critical darling, kicks off in a high-stakes fashion that I wasn’t prepared for. Rather than hiding out on The Eye and quietly trying to survive, I’m immediately on the run. Terrified that I’ll be caught if I stay on any one planet too long, I begin to make hasty decisions that leave me in a deficit. My energy depletes, I don’t have the chits to maintain my ship, and each of my dice shatters one by one, limiting what I can accomplish in a day. I’m left hungry, stressed, and...
