Most of the gameplay revolves around destroying various things and there is a insanely wide variety of inventive ways to cause destruction, using weapons, vehicles, explosives and of course, your tethers. Simply put, it’s fun. Systematically tethering fuel tanks together and strategically placing rocket powered C4 translates to a substantially different experience from piloting a fighter jet over an enemy base and bombing the hell out of it.

Frustrating controls, a bland world, and various technical issues stop Just Cause 3 from being the mindless action classic it clearly wants to be.

Just Cause 3, if we were to go back several years, would have been a pretty darn good game. I mean just look at your predecessors. The problem lies in it being released in 2015, and the rules that made up open world sandbox games has changed pretty dramatically. Worlds are not just worlds for your chaos, but an interactive experience. It is too simple.

Sadly, Just Cause 3 disappoints in some pretty significant ways. Across the board, Just Cause 3 has significant performance issues. On Xbox One it was extremely common for the frames per second to drop well below 20, and during explosions, that take up roughly half of the game, the framerate frequented around 15 per second. Similar issues were reported on the PS4 while lesser, and more hardware specific issues have seemed to crop up on the PC version. On the gameplay side, there really isn’t much to do outside of the story. Sure there are a few challenge mini-games, like races...

Just Cause 3 is an explosive, action-packed sandbox experience that rewards destruction and it’s a testament to the fact that AAA video games can be fun without taking themselves too seriously. It’s a shame that rinse and repeat mission design and technical issues dampen the overall experience.

Just Cause 3 gets away with more stunts and high-flying hijinks that, let's be honest, even Hollywood can't get away with much anymore. Come for the explosions, but stay for the, well, stay for even more explosions.

Just Cause 2 Updated in the right places. The gameplay is as fun as ever, just as long as you can keep up your creativity with the tools in front of you. Worth a purchase, just make sure that you can run it on PC.

Even if you were a major fan of past entries, I can not recommend picking up Just Cause 3 as a full-price new release. The actually “game” content is just too lacking for that. Maybe further down the road, or as part of a sale, it would be worth picking up just to mess around in the world and go crazy…and perhaps by then the technical issues will be fixed. Taken as a full new package, though, Just Cause 3 is moderately entertaining at best, and below mediocre at worst.

We love to create; we love to destroy. Just Cause 3 taps the pleasure mechanism that derives so much joy from watching complex structures crumble. Because the game gives you so many ways to interact with the world and to tether anything, blowing things up never becomes a chore. Unless you’re doing the missions but you can skip those, though I would encourage you to play them to witness the character interactions. Stay away from motorcycles, but very other vehicle is acceptable. The other th...

Just Cause 3 is explosively fun mayhem, but do performance issues douse the hectic flames?

Although it doesn't attempt to redefine the third-person action genre, Just Cause 3 does an excellent job putting a fresh spin on the usual tropes and delivers some of the most exciting explosions we've ever seen in a video game. The sound of every gun and explosion are incredible and make it very difficult to not play this one with the surround sound on and the volume turned up way too loud.

When Just Cause 3 allows you to creatively deconstruct its world on your own terms, you momentarily forget its technical shortcomings because you’re having too much fun to care. Even when you’re being attacked from land, sea and air, resulting in many irritating deaths, you’ll come back for more, just because it’s cool blowing stuff up. Unfortunately however, its never too long until something ugly rears its head that you simply cannot ignore, such as a severe case of slowdown, an overly long load screen, or simply a drastic difficulty spike. At the heart of Just Cause 3 is a...

Just Cause 3 is a wonderfully constructed open-world, that successfully builds on its predecessor’s legacy with humour and aplomb. The key problem however is that at the moment there are too many technical problems which hamper play. You’ll want to be wild and free, blowing everything to hell in a variety of ways, and so often you can be, but that only serves to emphasise those moments where Just Cause 3 struggles to keep up.

If you can judge a game based on the moments that make you put it down for the night, Just Cause 3 is hard to criticize: I only stopped when I needed to sleep, not because I wanted to put the game down. The "did you see that?!" factor seems unlimited here, and it kept me coming back to discover what unexpected domino of explosions I could start next with a single grenade. The formula of the Just Cause series hasn't been expanded, but it has been improved. And it's rare that a game is so comfortable in its own...

Just Cause 3 stays true to the series' core offerings, providing the player a ridiculous amount of firepower and tools to take down their enemies in the most action-filled, over the top creative fashion which would make even Michael Bay proud.

Predictably enjoyable, Just Cause 3 is as big and ballsy as its forebear, but doesn't push the envelope quite enough. Yet, if it's action and explosions you seek, then look no further. Just Cause 3 is still the most fun you can have with a gun, a grapple and infinite parachutes. Boom.

Rico Rodriguez comes home in Just Cause 3, bringing revolution and his arsenal of devastating toys to the island nation of Medici. Sebastiano Di Ravello may keep his citizenry under tight control, but Rico’s been through this before. He’s never met a dictator who couldn’t be toppled like a statue or who had the military might to endure an extended campaign of sabotage. Players may find their enthusiasm flagging at times, but it’s hard not to cackle with glee after watching yet another base bloom into a fiery blossom.

I’m sure you’ll be seeing a ton of animated GIFs of Just Cause 3 for a while to come, due to all of the wacky things that can happen within the game. It truly is an insane, explosion-filled romp through a beautiful nation chock-full of cheeky humor. It provides some of the best open-world tools ever. This is definitely a case of “it is what you make of it,” and for those with intrinsic motivation to make it the best will be greeted with just that.
