Minecraft Legends is the best Minecraft spin-off yet, offering a wholly unique experience, lathered with a lovingly crafted layer of Minecraft infused paint. From a moreish campaign to ridiculously enjoyable versus mode, Minecraft Legends has something for everyone, and I suspect many will love what it has to offer.

Minecraft Legends is a worthy spin-off from the main game, but doesn't break any new ground in the real-time strategy genre, instead acting as an accessible entry point for the younger generation.

Too shallow for players looking for a challenge and too complicated for younger players, creativity is mostly absent in this spin-off. Minecraft Legends may retain some of its original blocky charm, but the fun aspect was lost somewhere along the way, being replaced by repetitive gameplay and frustrating unit control woes.

Minecraft Legends is easy to recommend for a group of friends, but it isn’t deep enough to satisfy anybody looking for a bit more out of their Minecraft spin-off game adventures.

Minecraft Legends has a lot of good ideas, but the combat mechanics aren't suited for actively engaging in the act of war.

Two years following the release of Minecraft Dungeons, the Minecraft universe is expanding once again with Minecraft Legends. Minecraft Legends features some common traits with the original Minecraft and Minecraft Dungeons, while still carving out a unique experience of its own. You’ll explore, create, and survive in this open-world action-strategy adventure. Will Minecraft Legends take Minecraft to new heights, or was this a poorly conceived experiment?

Minecraft Legends is the next anticipated game in the Minecraft franchise, though it isn’t quite the sandbox game you might be expecting. Legends is made in a new mold entirely, pulling back the game’s original freedom for a focused action-strategy experience that puts the player in control of new and familiar mobs to fight back a piglin uprising. In recent years, we’ve seen the franchise explore other genres with the standout being Minecraft Dungeons which is still receiving paid DLC u...

Minecraft Legends overall is a great game both in single-player and multiplayer, bringing a fun experience for all ages as you defend the new land you are exploring and build your way around objects laying in your way.

Outside the lack of personalization, there are also a handful of smaller grievances. You have access to four different mounts in the game, but only the tiger and beetle are worth using in most situations due to their superior speed and wall climbing, respectively. There are also times when your mobs are unresponsive to enemies or the defenses near them, requiring you to have to issue a command to get them to move a foot and do their job. Once you upgrade your mob capacity, there are also times when the framerate gets choppy, occasionally crashing the game. None of...

The mechanics of the game can be a bit confusing, as the game doesn't always provide clear information and this can cause some frustrating setbacks. Several different buildings improve the player's ability to carry resources and have an expanded golem army, but this whole concept is not explained well and players need to figure much of it out through trial and error. On the minimap, players can see where piglin camps are, yet Minecraft Legends does not tell the player until after they have crossed the entire map to get to the piglin camp that that specific camp is not...

There's a new spin-off of one of the most popular titles in all of gaming and I'm very happy to say that Minecraft Legends is great stuff.

After tackling the dungeon crawler genre, Mojang Studios has set its sights on the RTS genre with Minecraft Legends. This engaging tactical experience should serve as a great introduction to the genre for younger audiences, but a lack of strategic depth and customization means it isn’t a memorable experience. However, some clever design choices still make Minecraft Legends enjoyable from start to finish.

Minecraft Legends combines light Minecraft elements with action-strategy gameplay. The game feels more geared towards a younger audience, which is reflected in its simplified mechanics and overall atmosphere. However, there is plenty to enjoy here for players of all ages, especially for those who are looking for a little more Minecraft love.

While I don't necessarily see myself sinking a ton of time into the game going forward --primarily because RTS games still aren't my thing-- I do appreciate Mojang's effort in expanding the Minecraft universe and experimenting with different genres to see how creative they can get with the IP. Slightly janky controls aside, Minecraft Legends is a solid adventure to experience with friends, and it'll keep you occupied for hours on end. Just don't go in expecting a ton of single-player content you can enjoy on your own time.

While the tactical options are more limited when playing solo, Minecraft Legends is a blast to play. Pick it up if you are a Minecraft fan or if you just want to have fun playing a chill game with a friend.

Minecraft Legends is a genuinely impressive RTS effort that has the potential to convert Minecraft fans into enthusiasts of the genre. Although it’s not always a seamless blend, most of its issues can be resolved through understanding and patience.

But in spite of its few shortcomings, Minecraft Legends is still a bold and exciting new direction for a franchise that continues to stand the test of time. It's a game that understands why Minecraft is so compelling in the first place and then twists those elements into an action strategy experience that can be hard to put down. Its only missteps come from its limited scope and how it leaves players wanting more because its core gameplay loop is so good. Minecraft Legends is approachable, captivating, and just a really good time.

Minecraft Legends is definitely one of the better Minecraft spin-offs to be released under Mojang and Microsoft. The teams at Blackbird and Mojang deftly take the memorable aspects of Minecraft and make them work in a brand-new genre. The strategy elements run deep, and the Campaign features enough variety that no two players will have an identical experience. Minecraft Legends’ biggest sin is that its open world and crafting elements – two signature traits of the source material – are unremarkable. Luckily, it delivers on everything else it’s trying to do.

Minecraft Legends captures the magic of Minecraft in a wholly new way. It’s chaotic, it’s creative, it’s competitive and it’s an absolute blast.

At its heart, Minecraft Legends presents a fun, new adventure that shows how versatile the franchise can be. It can be enjoyed in a variety of modes, and as long as your friends are along for the ride, it’s hard to resist coming back for more.

Minecraft Legends might never be StarCraft II's level of a strategy title, but as a strategy/action hybrid with a multitude of unique elements, it doesn't have to be. It is, however, a triumphant exercise in combining genres and offers both a unique and rewarding experience.

Minecraft Legends wasn’t a game I was particularly excited about, mostly due to its strategy leanings. However, it’s always nice to be surprised, and there’s a lot of fun to be had, particularly with friends online. The single player can be as chill as you’d like it to be, but PVP is absolute panic enducing carnage in the best kind of way. Who knows, perhaps it’ll breed a whole host of new strategy fans? Either way, learn the ropes in campaign, but grab a few friends and team up in multiplayer to get the best bang for your buck.

It isn't complex enough to satiate veteran RTS players and doesn't offer mountains of content, but Minecraft Legends delivers the basic loop of attacking and defending territory and finds the odd inventive way to use its iconic IP.

Charming and adorable with a lot of potential for a unique Minecraft style Real Time Strategy, but falls very short of being a fulfilling experience.

Mojang Studios has returned to the crafting table in an attempt to take Minecraft in a bold new direction. Minecraft Legends is an open-world real-time strategy game where you gather resources, build defenses, and summon adorable mercenaries to protect the sanctity of the realm. Instead of the birds-eye perspective often featured in strategy games, Legends opts for a character-focused view, with your hero roaming the landscape on dynamic mounts, sword in hand, using resources and armies to evict factions of evil Piglins, each with combat quirks to overcome. A compelling concept in theory, but this unique take on an iconic...

Minecraft Legends has good ideas, but it's ultimately held back by the decision to root its strategy action around a central hero. With a limited field of view, few command inputs, and uninteresting AI, Legends fails to generate compelling combat cycles or opportunities for creative thinking.

Minecraft Legends looks like Minecraft and somewhat feels like it, as you would probably expect, but it really does play like its own proper game with the action strategy elements - even if it doesn't quite match the depth of certain other titles within the strategy genre. Overall, Mojang and Blackbird Interactive have done a good job adapting this mega video game IP to yet another category, and have definitely provided a fun multiplayer experience, despite some learning curves which might be a challenge for younger Minecraft fans and newcomers. This is a welcome introduction to the strategy genre and...

While Minecraft Legends aims to be a kid-friendly first RTS and fodder for Minecraft fans, it's not entirely successful at either. The backbone of something brilliant lurks within, though.
