“Mortal Kombat X is bloody well done”

August 23, 2019 Read Review

Mortal Kombat X has surpassed my expectation of a fighting game. The impressive graphics, characters, smooth controls, and fun game modes makes MKX a worthy title to be added in your collection of games. The fatality and brutality are just, again, insanely awesome! More gore, more battle, more victory makes Mortal Kombat X the next-generation fighting game we’ve all been waiting for.

This series faces an uphill battle in maintaining momentum so long after the release of the game. At the moment, it's losing that fight. This issue is heavy on action and bloodshed but light on characterization or compelling drama. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Jesse is a mild-mannered writer for IGN. It's komplicated.

PC-specific disclaimer: We were given the PC version for review. By far, the PC version is the worst option to pick. Its positive side is that the visuals are smooth and detailed, but also scale perfectly for moderate setups and high-power rigs alike. Mortal Kombat X is going to look great on any PC. The downside is that glitches and stuttering are consistently present in every cutscene, as well as online, making it infuriating to play at times. Downloads to fix errors have been a nightmarish scenario too. Crashes happen regularly, which again affects the online community. It’s bad. Feel free to knock off several points from the main score for the PC version. Ten, twenty points; however many is necessary to make up for a lesser port. Consider getting any other version instead or be prepared to have a lot of patience.

MKX continues NetherRealm Studio's brutal legacy in style with the finest installment in the long-running franchise to date.

If you’re a fan of MK at all you’ll no doubt know that the franchise went off track a bit after its first few entries. Fans always looked forward to the next game in the series but many time felt let down by the final product. When MK9 was released it seemed like Ed Boon and company went back to the drawing board a bit and came back with a fresh take on what had become a stale offering at best. Four years later and MKX is bloodier and more brutal than anything seen before it and it capitalizes on what MK9 did right (sweet, sweet x-ray attacks) and expands on what was offered as well.

A fantastic fighting system, excellent production values, great story mode, exciting new characters, solid online play, and lots of single-player content make Mortal Kombat X one of the best fighters on the market. It isn’t a flawless victory, not quite, but its damn close, and even after these years, it still has the power to bring a group of my friends together to watch Fatalities and swap controllers, waiting for just one more round. Now then, who’s next?

Mortal Kombat X takes two steps back and one step forward compared to the 2011 installment, and yet it turns out to be a worthy representative of the cult dragon series.

NetherRealm Studio’s has pumped this latest installment in the legendary series full of blood, gore and fatalities. A slew of new features are meant to offer players more to latch onto than sheer brutality. There’s now a proper Story Mode and interactive arenas to button bash your way around.

NetherRealm has outdone itself with Mortal Kombat X, delivering an uncompromising fighting game that revels in blood-drenched ultra-violence. Not just essential for Mortal Kombat fans, MK X is something that deserves to be enjoyed by all fight fans over the age of 18. Brutality!

April 17, 2015 Read Review

Mortal Kombat X is an excellent fighting game, with a wide and varied roster, that’ll please series fans and newcomers alike. The combat is rock-solid, and offers a technicality that may surprise those with a low opinion of the series. Netherealms has crafted something that is enjoyable on a number of levels, and whilst the squeamish need not apply, anyone with an interest in fighting games should check it out, despite some questionable practices over downloadable content.

Easily the best fighting game on the market today. MK X takes all of the lessons learned with the 2011 release and turns it up to 11: content, gameplay, and overall fun. If the developers can improve the netcode a little bit, this could be a major contender on the fighting game scene for years to come.
