My Friend Pedro is a game about finding a particular moment. Usually, you’re upside down and falling in slow motion, watching as the bullets from your pistol ricochet off the broad side of a frying pan and zoom toward a foe’s skull. In these instances, Pedro’s systems come together in bloody harmony, letting you conduct a goofy and violent symphony of bullets, dodges, and even the occasional punt of a decapitated head. However, the sheer amount of effort it takes to reach these moments of glory often makes the enterprise more trouble than it’s worth.

My Friend Pedro is a wonderfully short-but-sweet, shoot em’ up action romp that relishes over the top gunplay and comical absurdity. Despite being functionally quirky at times, the arcade-shooter gameplay experience rewards skillful movement and weapon management whilst feeling incredibly satisfying to play well.

A banana teaches you to kill. But in a fun way.

As I flicked switch after switch and roly-polyed through each generic challenge, the game's early levels and that glorious GIF felt like a distant memory. My Friend Pedro does let you realise the fantasy of conducting a bullet symphony while hanging upside down from a zipline, but like most fantasies, it doesn't survive past the initial rush of blood to the head.

Even with forty levels, My Friend Pedro can be beaten over the course of a few sittings. Walking away after would be missing the point, though, because anyone can bull their way through to the end with a bit of practice, but the real fun comes from doing it with style and efficiency. All those C-rankings from the earlier areas just don't feel right once you've got the experience to properly orchestrate the gun-chaos and earning consistent S-ranks would be much easier with the bonus from higher difficulties. Beating the game is simply the start, the thing you do to...

My Friend Pedro is an amalgam of fantastic bullet play, thumping electronic bass beats throughout each level, and hilariously weird characters. I'm still not sure how the folks at Deadtoast Entertainment came up with this gloriously addictive fever dream, but I'm an absolute fan of whatever creative process that allowed them to craft a dangerously stylish, addictive, and exciting shooter that offers something new and unique for your Switch (or PC) library.

My Friend Pedro is everything I wanted it to be. Smooth, stylish gun play, powered by creativity that makes you feel like you’re making your own action scenes in a movie. What’s not to love? Pedro is love. Pedro is your friend.

My Friend Pedro, packing a punch, a kick, and quite a few guns, is a breath of fresh air in the shooter genre. While it runs the risk of becoming samey, though, it always manages to give the player something new.

There is something special about the relationship between a man and his banana. Wait, that sounded bad. Let me try that again: My Friend Pedro is a crazy-go-nuts platformer/2D side scroller/twin stick shmup. It gives you enough story to keep it interesting while making sure that you understand, by way of your floating banana shaped sidekick, that this game doubles down on the absurdity and gameplay of its action.

There is no shortage of great action-platformers in the market today, so when another one comes along, it better bring the heat. Luckily, the folks at Deadtoast Entertainment’s latest game My Friend Pedro puts its foot on the gas and never lets up.

My Friend Pedro is a ton of fun to play, which is the most important aspect of all. Even though not all of the levels in the game are winners, the vast majority of the experience is a blast and will likely keep you coming back repeatedly. Devolver Digital has been on a tear so far in 2019 and My Friend Pedro is yet another winner for the indie publisher.

Developed by DeadToast Entertainment and published by Devolver Digital, My Friend Pedro looks like yet another game that fits perfectly with the energy that Devolver Digital has been keeping for years. Previously shown off through fast-paced, frenetic combat, My Friend Pedro is exactly as advertised. According to its description, My Friend Pedro is a violent ballet about friendship, imagination, and one man’s struggle to obliterate anyone in his path at the behest of a sentient banana. Seems legit.

My Friend Pedro is a hyper-violent ballet that you control.  DeadToast Entertainment takes players on an incredibly fun ride with the game's enjoyable combat system.  All good things come to an end though, and this one just ends a little too soon.

My Friend Pedro is like if Sonic the Hedgehog went on a drug-fueled killing spree. It's a ridiculous whirlwind of flashy dives, stylish shooting, and accidentally amazing trick shots that refuses to take itself seriously.

Like the John Woo movies that it successfully emulates, My Friend Pedro is all about the action – and that action is excellent. The slow-motion gunplay, fantastical stunts, and score-attack-driven mechanics all work together to create one hell of an adrenaline-filled ride, even if it doesn’t give you much reason to come back to it once that ride is over.
