Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army serves as a faithful, yet significantly refined take on its source material. It stays close to its PS2 roots visually, while adding much-needed quality of life improvements like a fresh UI and enhanced 3D environments. Expressive voice acting and a fantastic array of demons also add color to an engaging, mysterious plot. Unfortunately, there are some aspects that don’t quite land – demon investigations feel a little flat and combat, though improved, can feel a tad clunky at times. All in all, though, this is a lovingly crafted remaster that had me...

Raidou Remastered is an enjoyable MegaTen curio that needs a few more ideas to give its real-time combat any lasting appeal.

Despite some flaws, RAIDOU Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army is one of the most unique Atlus JRPGs in the Devil Summoner series. It might not have the polish of modern SMT titles, but it makes up for that with originality, rich humor, charm, and atmosphere.

The last few years were a period of learning for people who started getting into Atlus’ catalog of RPGs. Persona was the gateway drug for most of us, then came Shin Megami Tensei V to showcase a more complex, more challenging, and edgier take on the game we had fallen for over the previous years. But Atlus has way more spinoffs based on the original Shin Megami Tensei formula, one of them being the Devil Summoner subseries. Soul Hackers 2, released a while back, is part of this spinoff vari...

Atlus is a Japanese studio that is practically bursting at the seams with RPGs, and their lineages are all interwoven. Branching out from the core Megami Tensei series – games like 2024’s Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance – are subseries like the well-known Persona franchise, as well as more underground hits like Devil Survivor or Devil Summoner.

With so many developers pushing barely-changed ports on us and calling them remasters — or worse, remasters that actually ruin the game —we need more to follow ATLUS’ example with RAIDOU Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army. It’s an unwieldy title, but no less so than the original game that is its namesake, Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army, which released on PS2 in 2006 as a spin-off to the much more well-known series Shin Megami Tensei. It’s been largel...

Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army is another solid update to Atlus's long-running Shin Megami Tensei franchise. Raidou Remastered overhauls the combat system for modern players and includes plenty of quality of life upgrades. It's a nice addition for those looking for a more supernatural detective story set in the Tensei universe.

If you missed Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army when it originally released on PlayStation 2, this remaster should prove to be a treat. Featuring a revamped combat system, full voice acting, and more, Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army almost feels like a new game, and its mix of investigation, combat and demon-collecting is both engaging and rewarding.

Raidou Remastered isn't the best Shin Megami Tensei game on PC, but its live-action take on a familiar turn-based combat system is as fun as it is fascinating.

All in all, RAIDOU Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army is an enjoyable update to an already compelling game. Some of the bells and whistles are irritating and the fusion system could be better. But I heartily recommend it to fans of stylish action RPGs and occult mystery titles.

Getting your hands on a good remaster can be hit or miss these days. Some games get the bare minimum treatment with just a visual polish, while others receive the full makeover they deserve. RAIDOU Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army falls firmly into the latter category, delivering improvements so significant that it feels almost like playing a completely new game. In this review of RAIDOU Remastered, we’ll explore how this 2006 PlayStation 2 classic has been transformed for moder...

There's a lot more good than bad in RAIDOU Remastered, fortunately. It's a wonderful walk down memory lane for fans of the original, and a worthwhile excursion for newer Atlus fans, discovering the studio via games like Persona 3 Reload and Metaphor: ReFantazio. More than anything, this new-and-improved RAIDOU is easy to love, packed to the brim with charming characters, addictive combat, and a wacky, lore-rich world to sink your teeth into, making it easy to recommend to just about anyone.

Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army is a wonderful retread of a forgotten classic, smartly polishing up its best parts and modifying its worst parts to make for an overall more enjoyable experience. Though the visuals are just 'okay' and the detective gameplay can be a bit plain, the action-packed combat, reworked demon fusion, and interesting story all come together to make for a gripping adventure. I’d recommend you pick this one up if you’re curious and you think it may be up your alley. I’ve never played anything quite like Raidou, and it offers a very unique...

Given its vast PS2-era catalogue, Atlus' decision to revive Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army is a bit of a strange one. Something of an experimental foray into the realm of action RPGs, it's not necessarily a game that springs to mind when looking back on the developer's most prolific console generation.

Raidou Remastered is a charming remake of one of ATLUS' most experimental PS2 titles. It succeeds in preserving that legacy, even if it holds it back from true greatness.

Our world is eternally on a knife’s edge, separated from demon incursion by the thinnest of membranes. If you’ve played anything remotely Persona-adjacent, you will know this well — it’s the core premise of all Megami Tensei games, and Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army is no different.

The game is primarily split between bouts of combat, demon maintenance, and exploring each cloistered region for NPC chatter and the occasional bonus quest, or “case.” Those scare quotes are intentional, since the bulk of RAIDOU Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army’s side quests are one-off blips which barely qualify. For instance, one could find Raidou simply calling on a demon with the correct skill to find an item before a sudden splash screen exclaims, “CASE CLOSED.” Yes indeed, the master detective has successfully cracked the case of the crying child and his missing toy five paces away.

RAIDOU Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army is the definition of a solid 7 out of 10 game. Everything it sets out to do, it delivers, but in the modest way possible. It's a humble action RPG with Shin Megami Tensei elements, such as demons and an adapted Press Turn mechanics, and it doesn't dare go beyond that. However, the blend of sleuthing elements with supernatural powers could have pushed its story and turned an otherwise unremarkable game into a stellar spinoff, but it ultimately fell short. I only recommend RAIDOU Remastered to the most die-hard SMT fans, while...
