It’s a tricky situation, as Superhot is currently being priced as roughly $25 AUD for a game that amounts to a couple of hours (excluding the extra modes). However, the extreme fast paced nature of Superhot means that not one moment of the game feels bloated or overlong. Every second in Superhot feels like it belongs there, and it’s refreshing that a game is able to strip down to the bare elements and come as far superior to the bloated masses of games that tend to shove too much in their games for the sake of extending gameplay.

Sometimes games just feel right, and Superhot is such a game. It takes something familiar and turns it on its head to create what I expect will become an indie classic.

Mind Control Delete throws a few wild twists into the Superhot formula, but it might be too much of a good thing.

SUPERHOT is built around one simple concept: time only moves when you do. This unique concept creates a first person shooter unlike any other game on the market, with a distinctive blend of slow-motion action and deliberate strategy. But is it still the most innovative shooter in years?

Superhot offers a first-person shooter experience unlike any other, and although the main campaign is a little bit on the short side, once you’ve made it through you’ll have dozens of new ways to replay it should you wish. We’re not entirely sure why this particular phrase comes to mind, but Superhot is the most innovative shooter we’ve played in years.

SUPERHOT VR takes an already amazing game and translates it to VR in a very impressive manner. Some minor control issues and short length does hold it back a little, but I have never felt so close to being an action hero before.

This traditional version of Superhot doesn't have the same type of immersion as its VR counterpart but that doesn't make it any less excellent of a game.

A crafty base concept and careful execution make Superhot one of the most intriguing games to come from the recent class of indie-developed shooters. Its bizarre setting and puzzle-like approach are refreshingly original and hopefully something the team will now expand upon following Superhot’s early success.

A uniquely innovative shooter with imagination to spare, there is nothing quite like Superhot.

Superhot's unique and entertaining core mechanic is brought down by its technical and design flaws.

There are many words that could be used to describe SUPERHOT. Cool, addictive, stylish, fun, enjoyable…take your pick. What the development team have done is take a game mechanic that sounds like an excellent idea on paper and turned it into something special by fleshing out a game around it that does it justice and then layering on different ways of playing in the post-game. It flat out tells you to say this but we'd be saying it anyway: SUPERHOT is one of the most innovative shooters that we've played in years. Absolutely essential.

Superhot is short but full of style and substance, taking an inventive mechanic to its furthest and providing a unique shooter experience. The current offering is slim, but unlike anything else around.

Price and player expectations do matter, and that’s forcing me to temper my praise just a bit. Superhot is a game with truly excellent, original mechanics and a core experience that is constantly doing exciting things without wasting a second of your time. If price weren’t a factor it would easily get a 9.0 or even higher.

Superhot is a welcome surprise for 2016. As one of the more unique FPS games out there, its style will keep you hooked for its duration. It might not have the legs or depth of its competition, but it makes up for that in terms of sheer style.

Superhot isn’t ground-breaking. It’s a fun game with a unique concept and I was fully immersed during my playthrough, but I like to look at the replay value of anything I review, especially when it comes to FPS games. Some people might find it addictive and they might get huge amounts of enjoyment out of playing through the challenges and endless mode, but for me, after playing through some of the after-game content I’m fairly confident that I won’t pick it up again, at least not for a while. Not because it’s a sub-par product but because there’s nothing else...

There aren’t many occasions when I get to review a game that I played the Prototype build of, but Superhot is one of those exceptions. Having seen it in a “Top 5 Unity Engine Games” video, Superhot stood out as one of the most memorable gaming experiences I had of 2013.

The slow-motion combat might not be for everyone, but I found it to be just as exciting as any twitch-based shooter. Being in control of the situation at all times is exhilarating, especially when one wrong step could mean certain death. But don’t worry, there’s plenty of time to choose each step wisely.

During the actual playthrough, I'm tense and thoughtful in some moments and chortling in delight during other moments. SUPERHOT is a game in which time is often frozen but it's a game that allows you to cherish every moment. Time stands still but it's never wasted.

Superhot’s clever time-manipulation idea delivers consistently fulfilling challenges by turning blink-of-an-eye action into carefully considered and cautious tactical decisions. It avoids potential one-hit death frustration with quick respawns and deaths that always feel earned and avoidable in hindsight. Its unique brand of puzzles are complemented by simplistic but helpfully high-contrast art and sound design, yet undermined by a tedious, intrusive story and a reluctance to put new game-changing spins on its ideas to extend their lives.

Superhot is a fascinatingly unique take on the shooter genre. Its time manipulation mechanics truly alter the gameplay, making it feel more like a puzzle game than a standard shooter. Great visual and audio design push the game to even higher levels, but the experience might feel a bit short for those who aren't total completionists.

Superhot is sizzling with style and mixes the first-person shooter and puzzle genres in a way that truly feels innovative. In every level the player choreographs a blockbuster movie’s action scene, rewarding them with the satisfaction of feeling like a badass at regular intervals. The lack of post game diversity is only disappointing because the core content and “dystopian VR retro-future” story is so hard to put down.
