Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 is a one-way ticket to the turn of the millennium. It's a complete, beautiful love letter to not only Tony Hawk himself as an icon but to a time when both the series and the sport of skateboarding itself were most pure and fun. As a bundle, and with the multiplayer providing even more longevity, this game offers unrivaled value.

If you want a portable Tony Hawk game, this is the best one yet. Despite the huge decrease in visual fidelity, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 is just as fun as it is on other consoles.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 is quite simply the best skateboarding game available right now, irrespective of the format you play it on. Thanks to numerous improvements, however, including DualSense support, the PS5 is undoubtedly the best format to experience it. The visuals are cleaner and more eye-catching than ever, loading times are noticeably reduced, and, if you have a TV capable of it, 120fps support makes the gameplay smoother than a baby’s backside and more responsive than… well, a really responsive thing. The next-gen version of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 isn’t revelatory, but it makes an outstanding game even better. What more could you ask for?

Good game design is good game design, regardless of age or platform. Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 + 2 takes the levels from the amazing original PS1 titles, and blows out the scope in every direction. Adding a ton of modernizing touches without ever losing sight of what makes these games great, THPS 1+2 is a riotous success. Lock in for some extended play sessions, and get your blister band-aids ready because this game is additive beyond belief.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 takes the addictive gameplay and amazing soundtracks that shot the series to stardom two decades ago and polishes them to near perfection for gamers of the modern day

It is pretty clear to me that Activision wanted to make the purest remaster that they could while still bringing the quality of life changes that everyone deserved in 2020. In my personal opinion, this is the best title of the year, especially with the fact that I can play it at a constant 60FPS with my 2700x and 2080 and it is as smooth as butter. There are fast load times and even smoother bail transitions which allow you to get right back into the action faster. For 40.00 USD you can’t g...

Almost perfect if not for the nitty-gritty. If it’s quite there but not enough to push the boundaries, it’s still an awesome game.

Tony Hawk's Greatest Ride to Date

September 12, 2020 Read Review

Vicarious Visions has reinvigorated a legendary franchise, lovingly remaking the first two Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater titles from the ground up. Every level from both games has been beautifully recreated in stunning 4K 60 FPS, with an extensive roster of skaters and creation options alongside over 700 challenges. Not since the noughties has it been a better time for fans, both old and new, to pretend they are a superman.

Besides the basic multiplayer mode, you’ve also got the return of Create-A-Park. It’s frustrating how much Vicious Visions nailed every aspect of this package but completely dropped the ball on half the multiplayer experience by not allowing you to play the Create-A-Park levels with friends. You can make stages, publish them, and play ones others have posted but there’s no way to directly share one with a friend or explore a series of created parks with people. It’s a mind-boggling exclusion, considering how huge of an appeal sharing weird stages you find would be. Now coming from comments from people I’ve played with, lobbies are allegedly coming to Create-A-Park in a future update, but I’ve yet to find a source on that so fingers crossed.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 review for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Skating down the Warehouse’s first ramp, smashing through its glass doors, and then performing a picture-perfect Christ Air soundtracked by ‘Guerrilla Radio’ is a transportive experience. THPS 1+2 is a time capsule teleported in from the ’90s, taking me back to weekends spent ollying and grinding virtual rails with my friends. It sends me back to a time when baggy jeans came equipped with metal chains, and when people willingly listened to Goldfinger. It’s a blast from the past, but it doesn’t coast by on nostalgia alone — this is one of the most comprehensive and thoughtful remakes yet.

Realistic skateboarding games have been all the rage of recent years, from EA’s long-running Skate series to the Early Access release of Skater XL that graced PC not too long ago. But, just as there’s an arcade-y, exaggerated of nearly every other sports discipline on the market, so too is there something for the world of skateboarding. For two decades now, that has been the Tony Hawk series. The Birdman hasn’t had the best of luck with recent releases, from the HD Remix that failed to capture critical and fan acclaim to the Ride series that cluttered GameStop back rooms with plastic board accessories. When I heard that Vicarious Visions and Activision were dusting off the old skate deck with a new release, I was apprehensive at first, but needless to say, there’s no reason to fear Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2.

Tony Hawk's pro Skater 1+2 is a near-perfect remake of two classic games that proves that, like Tony Hawk himself, some things only get better with age.

Vicarious Visions has a masterpiece on their hands with Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2. They handled the remake of theses games with the right amount of reverance while still leaving their own signature on the work. THPS 1+2 combines awesome gameplay mechanics, impressive graphics, and an outstanding soundtrack in a complete package of skateboarding greatness. Some modes like the online multiplayer function could use more work, but the game makes up for any minor shortcomings with the overwhelming amount of things that are done just right. From nods to past versions of the game, to the pixel-for-pixel remakes of each iconic level, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 is one of the best games to be released in all of 2020. Congratulations to Vicarious Visions! I can only hope that the studio will be allowed to release a THPS 3+4 on the way to creating a brand new THPS 6 experience with the great framework that they have built here.

Strap on your elbow and knee pads, the Birdman is back with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2. Vicarious Visions flashes back to the late 90s/early 2000s to rejuvenate the first two beloved games in skateboarding series. With all the familiar faces and places making an appearance, new tricks, modes, customisation, and revamped physics warp this remake into the modern realm. Following the absolute tragedy of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5, does THPS1+2 finally do everything it can or is it just prete...

It's been a long time since Tony Hawk unleashed his instant classic video game franchise and now you can enjoy it via a cool collection.

September 8, 2020 Read Review

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 isn’t a simulation, unlike most modern skateboarding games we’re seeing today, but instead, it’s something fun, enjoyable in short bursts or long sessions. It’s a throwback to the past in a way that hasn’t erased its charm and legacy; it instead expands on that and becomes one of the finest remakes to come out of 2020 while keeping its original roots intact, but to modern standards.

As far as immediate arcade thrills go, few games can compete with the level of gratification you're guaranteed to get from Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2. If you enjoyed the originals or fancy seeing what all the fuss is about, you're in for an absolute treat either way.

For as much as I was looking forward to the release of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2, I was also worried. This is Activision we’re talking about. I hadn’t forgotten about the nuclear disaster that ended up being Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5. I was worried this new remake was just going to be a half-baked improvement over last gen’s Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD, which featured a small assortment of levels from the first three games, ported to the Unreal Engine, just like this one.

Overall, if you loved any of the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater games you are going to love this game. Whether its the feeling of nostalgia, the great gameplay, or even just the incredible soundtrack there is something for anyone and everyone in this remaster.

This is definitely a competent Tony Hawk game at the price tag of 1200 MP. The nostalgia around these first two titles was enough for me to buy it already. For people that don't have strong feelings about the Tony Hawk games though, they may want to pass. 7 Levels with an easily repeatable soundtrack will not keep a new gamer's attention very long. A couple new modes and the addition of Xbox Live multiplayer is just not enough for me to recommend THPSHD to someone that doesn't already have strong feelings for the two games.
