Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is another great Wii U game that is made better by the Nintendo Switch's portability. It's a fun experience that doesn't overstay its welcome, but definitely does feel repetitive in certain areas.
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker isn't the most taxing puzzle game in the world, but it's well-paced and enjoyable all the same.
“After 30 years, Toad has a game that reflects him perfectly: just the right season and proudly of a different time.”
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker brings some fantastic puzzle gameplay to the Switch, and gives a Wii U classic another chance at life. If you missed it before, it's well worth grabbing now.
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is fundamentally strong with a solid core idea and great level design, but doesn't succeed beyond that. A more cohesive atmosphere, extra camera options, and deliberate mechanical progression could’ve made the experience far more satisfying. The conversion to the Switch brings along its own problems as well, making it hard to call this version definitive. As it stands, the game is a fun but forgettable adventure.
Overall then, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is a diamond of a game and a welcome addition to the ever growing titles available for the Nintendo Switch. The puzzles are fun and challenging as well as diverse and creative. If you’re a fan of puzzle/platformer games, then Captain Toad on Switch comes highly recommended. Recruit a friend for even more fun. Just makes sure they’re ready for an adventure!
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is a joy to play. It oozes happiness, it makes me smile, and I absolutely love it. It’s a perfect summer game for the Nintendo Switch. Whether you played the Wii U version, or you missed out like me, you should absolutely pick it up. For $40, it’s a wonderful treat and I love seeing quality older Wii U titles get their day on the much more popular Nintendo Switch. This only allows these games to be introduced to a much larger audience, and frankly, that’s ...
The software lineup for the Switch’s second year doesn’t measure up to its blockbuster opening year. Fortunately, Nintendo still has a volume of critical hits that launched on the underperforming Wii U to help pad out a thin release calendar. Titles like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze are robust ports of their Wii U counterparts. This rerelease of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker isn’t filled with nearly as many new goodies, but it remains a delightful romp for anyone who missed this treasure hunt the first time around.
With the lacklustre Wii U release still fresh in our memories, Nintendo appears to have but one mission this time around when it comes to their latest console, the Nintendo Switch. That mission is to give all the brilliant and highly underrated Wii U games a new home and a second chance at life, and I for one won’t complain. Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is the latest Wii U title to find its way onto the Nintendo Switch and it’s a fungitastic romp not to be missed.
Still a treasure.
When we first met Captain Toad back in Super Mario Galaxy, we knew he was adorable, we just didn't know he'd end up turning into such a star. He got his debut on Wii U and, well, it didn't exactly sell gangbusters, but the wee Captain certainly earned himself a small but dedicated fanbase. After seeing him back helping Mario in Super Mario Odyssey last year, fans were hoping they'd get more Captain Toad soon. And here he is! Uh, the only thing is that it's his debut again. Just, like, pretty much the same game but on Switch.
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is a brilliant action puzzler that wows with its offering of beautifully colourful and diverse locales and refined gameplay design.
Captain Toad's three-act adventure is blissful amusement as the tubby hero seeks treasure and the rescue of his beloved Toadette across the Mushroom Kingdom's familiar landscapes.
Like hidden treasure, Captain Toad Treasure Tracker packs a lot of value into an unassuming package. With a supremely addictive set of charming, brain-teasing levels, stellar production values and a budget price, Captain Toad is the perfect way for Wii U owners to wrap up 2014 after indulging in Smash Bros.
For anybody else, Captain Toad's weird little experiment would be an afterthought. But Nintendo's exercise in digging has found something pretty special — an action puzzle game that succeeds on charm and smarts, rather than reflexes and spectacle.
Treasure Tracker takes the core concept of Captain Toad and runs wild with it. It’s a smart, adorable puzzle game that presents some awesome locales and really rewards you for taking the time to unpack them. Despite the control issues and menu problems, Captain Toad Treasure Tracker proves that you can still be great without being Super.
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is the newest IP from Nintendo. Does it deliver a fun gaming experience? Find out in our review!
Captain Toad is an experience that doesn’t attempt to really wow you, but instead delivers consistent puzzle experiences at a rapid pace. There’s more Nintendo could have done with it, but it is a puzzler in its purest form, and that will be more than enough for people who wanted more of the titular hero after playing the bonus games in 3D World.
Despite being short on content, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker creates an atmosphere that'll keep players smiling throughout. The levels may not be overly challenging after a few minutes of deliberation, but there are so many memorable portions in the title that it's easy to get lost in the tiny worlds that Nintendo has created. The end result is a discounted game that gives Toad a fun, albeit brief, spin-off that's hard not to enjoy.
Top to bottom, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is a delightful little treat of a game. It shows a purity of puzzle design that few studios can match, and it wraps it all in a sugary-sweet presentation that only the most jaded could refuse. With a game this good, Captain Toad may just be Nintendo's next breakout star.
