The Diablo franchise is one of the longest-running game franchises with a huge fan base. It’s also been over ten years since its last outing, with Diablo III coming out way back in 2012. Whilst the reception to that one initially started rather mixed, with a rough launch and a ton of issues, it overcame its rocky start. It survived eleven years with twenty-eight Seasons, and kept a rather impressive player base coming back every few months. I personally didn’t stick around for this, but t...

Diablo 4 doesn’t revolutionize hack and slash RPGs like its predecessors did, but its blend of new and old features works quite well. Its return to a darker, gothic art style that embraces gore, ugliness, and religious imagery really makes its world effortlessly etch into your mind the detailed shapes of demonic sculptures and remains of obliterated foes.

As the fourth entry to a series, I am beyond impressed with Diablo IV. The developers have managed to find a way to make the ARPG genre feel new and refreshing. I was worried about a lot of common tropes I see in the genre, but that was not an issue. My biggest gripe is the world is so big that having to walk around it instead of using a mount for so long was the worst part. How will the seasons play out? Will I want to play every season, or just the first couple? That's not something I...

Diablo IV is almost shockingly refined, with an absorbing story and addictive gameplay. The shift to always online and connected play might turn some away, and the level scaling can make combat a little same-y, but on the whole, this is still Diablo at its best. It plays very well, offers tonnes of options for tailoring your character and acquiring that all important hunt for better and better loot will keep you coming back for more.

Diablo IV successfully tempts me to gleefully indulge in sin at every turn. A thrilling hunt for rare loot feeds my insatiable greed and lust for power. The satisfaction of slaughtering thousands of foes, supernatural or otherwise, leaves little room for remorse. Whether taking down the forces of darkness alone or with friends, this is a massive and deeply engrossing action RPG that keeps me coming back for more dozens upon dozens of hours later.

Diablo IV has set the golden standard for what a modern Blizzard game should be. It is not only a fantastic Diablo game but gives us a glimpse that the once-beloved publisher still has that magic that it was most well-known for in years past.

What is it about turning small numbers into bigger numbers that gamers find so primally compelling? Countless titles have co-opted the formula, but it was arguably perfected by the Diablo series. Big-name looter shooters like Destiny and Borderlands wouldn’t exist as they do today without the dark fantasy dungeon crawler’s influence. For the fourth entry things have gone full circle, with developer Blizzard borrowing some ideas from those imitators.

Diablo IV takes the series to new heights, but also spends plenty of time covering familar ground. The compelling rush for loot is as strong as it has ever been, and visually, the game is spectacular. It doesn't exactly feel like a massive leap from Diablo III yet its focus on the series' core strengths ensures that's likely more than enough for long-time fans.

Diablo IV is a beautiful, frictionless grey toybox that puts nothing in the way of you playing it for hours and wondering what you've done with your life.

I cannot overstate just how satisfying it is to play Diablo IV on a moment-to-moment basis, and with so much replay value to be had from its various classes and build possibilities within those classes, Diablo IV feels like a true return to form for the series.

Every gamer has a story about THE game. You know the one. The first game that kept you up at night, calling in sick for work or missing class, turning your gaming space into a funky-smelling trash heap of pizza boxes and soda cans. For me, it was Diablo 2. When Diablo 2 Resurrected was released it was a sweet blast from the past. Now we have Diablo IV. Does it wipe away some of Blizzard’s missteps of late and return Diablo to glorious, menacing form?

As stated in the intro I played rough 70 hours in the game, with the majority of that time being on a Druid. I reached World Tier 3, just barely, but failed to get to 4 or see much of the Paragon system. If this version of the game had carried over to retail I would have easily tried to put 125 hours in during our 10-day review period. I only stopped because it all disappeared when we lost access to this Xbox Insider build on May 26th, at 12 pm… a very sad time for us lucky reviewers. I...

Diablo IV represents a massive shift for the series, moving to a more inclusive and open world that is somehow as inviting for new players as returning veterans. Complexity is mixed with flexibility to create a game that is sure to consume you for hundreds if not thousands of hours. Diablo IV is the game we’ve been waiting for, and a return to form for the Blizzard team.

As someone who’s played every Diablo game at launch and amassed a ridiculous amount of hours endlessly clicking away at monsters on the screen, Diablo IV is absolutely the most refined and complete experience in the series yet. With a sinister and brutally harsh world to explore, the game is jammed packed with content, while also taking everything we loved about the previous Diablo games and making them even better. Diablo IV has set a new benchmark for the series that players are going to ...

With a compelling new antagonist, a serviceable, character-driven story, and a familiarly satisfying gameplay loop with an incredible amount of depth, Diablo 4 is a worthy entry into the franchise that threatens to burn away many hours of your life.

Based on the franchise's history, Diablo IV has large boots to fill, but does an admiral job of meeting this longtime fan's expectations. Diablo IV maintains the core gameplay that made it popular while combining the best elements of the the previous games. The continuous open world is an improvement over the completely separate acts with an intriguing story that feels more nuanced than the previous entries. All the elements of of a great action RPG are present, most importantly Diablo's reward loop system where players can spend years playing through new seasons and characters to experiment with different builds...
