EA Sports FC 25 looks, feels, and plays like a truly upgraded version of the franchise. It isn’t a perfect sports simulator, but it does a great job of making the game feel alive and takes another step forward for the franchise.

Overall, the evolution is positive, but the single year development cycle is really hard to ignore with all the little issues and frustrations that the game shipped with. The menus are bad and there are far too many bugs in this year's iteration of EA Sports FC 25. The slower gameplay and move to deeper tactics are features I actually really enjoy, but I can totally understand how many fans might be disappointed at this move away arcade style play to a more methodical approach. There's no reason not to pick it up, but wait on the frequent sales and...

This is a new FC, with some genuine differences on- and off-pitch. It's also the exact same FC it's always been.

We’ve had more fun with EA Sports FC 25 than we have with any soccer sim for quite some time. Perhaps that’s because, outside of the review period, we largely abandoned EA Sports FC 24 – or perhaps, whisper it quietly, it’s because the footie franchise is in a good place. Either way, a ton of under-the-hood depth paired with the more accessible Rush mode has actually helped us to fall in love with the beautiful game again – and considering the state of our beloved Man United right now, that’s no mean feat.

There’s a lot that EA Sports FC 25 does which isn’t iterative - and that, actually, is a good thing.

EA Sports FC 25 remains the default choice for anybody wanting to enjoy a virtual version of the world’s most popular sport. However, the fantastic new Rush mode isn’t enough to prevent this installment from feeling seriously stale.

EA Sports FC 25 is the latest annual entry for the series formerly known as FIFA. Despite the loss of the FIFA license a few years ago, the series is still going strong featuring a plethora of gameplay options and content. It features teams and leagues from all over the world, obligatory online match-ups as well as fully fleshed-out player career and manager modes.

FC 25 is here to add more to the already great FC formula, opening doors to creative innovations such as the FC IQ and Rush to further improve the gameplay in its different game modes.

EA Sports FC 25 continues to hand in the same homework it's done for the past few years now, albeit with a new paragraph on Rush. It's a solid game that will likely enjoy plenty of additions throughout the year, but I'd like to see more ambition in the future.

EA Sports FC 25 refines the proven formula, doesn't spoil too much of what worked well, and adds some really cool new features. It's a pity that the technical condition still leaves a lot to be desired.

Thanks to the introduction of FC IQ, the on-pitch action in EA Sports FC 25 is more dynamic and authentic than ever before. And while most other changes are small, the replacement of Volta with Rush, a 5v5 match type that is accessible in most game modes, makes this a worthy upgrade from last year's release overall.

FC25 is an improvement on the previous entry, moving in a positive direction. Ultimate Team continues to be egregious, but Rush is refreshing and fun. Refocusing its gameplay to a more deliberate and slower paced brand of football, that takes tactics into account, makes for a more enjoyable game. With some minor updates, its potential can be fulfilled. FC25 has found its form, and is the best an EA footie title has been in years.

It’s easy to dismiss EA Sports FC 25 as a glorified reskin of EA Sports FC 24 – and in many respects, it is – but the customarily small tweaks made to graphics and gameplay add up to a near-perfect sports game experience. This is total football.

Tactics can be imported and exported, but it's not as simple as copy and pasting, because players have to be suited to the roles. They have four levels of familiarity with roles, and it's not just a case of putting great players into a role they can't play and expecting class to show. You can also choose how hard to train your players, and in combination with the role proficiency, there's better control of development. EA Sports are heading in the right direction - towards Football Manager, specifically - but it's still some way away from optimal levels of control...

FC 25's gameplay familiarity may trigger initial disappointment, but career mode tweaks and the brilliant Rush mode soon pull you back in for another year. Ultimate Team, meanwhile, remains divisive as ever – but fans of that mode will love its myriad fan-service additions.

Like many sports franchises that release yearly iterations, EA Sports FC 25 is going to be much like the game you remember from last year. While FC IQ and roles do a good job of making tactics feel varied and exciting, there are many adjustments and improvements that need to be made to AI before things feel balanced. When slide comes to tackle, not too much has changed this year.

EA FC 25 still plays a fine game of football in all of its online and offline modes, but it's fairly hard to get excited about any of it this year. The new depth to tactics, and ability to switch them up on-the-fly, are welcome additions. However, Rush feels a bit flat and forced, whilst the rest of the modes on offer are overwhelmingly familiar. We can see what EA was going for, and it's worked in some respects, but the focus on Rush, and a lack of big changes elsewhere, make for a bit of an uninspired year in...
