The PC port of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is a fantastic upgrade to an already superb game. Everything is highly customizable for the player and will make any doubter turn their head. The performance mode is crisp and clean, making any player look in awe, even with the swing of the Buster Sword. It's even a great addition to anyone's Steam Deck and runs well despite the game's size and graphical demand. The base criticisms of the game's ending and some of the side activities are present, but a...

At times dull, tedious, disappointing, and unfocused, Rebirth is still an exuberant, earnest and singularly exciting RPG adventure.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has found its definitive version on PC. The game looks and plays amazingly well. The limited and sometimes odd options can be a bit too restrictive, but if you can find a setup that works for you, it should be smooth, clean sailing.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth picks up during our heros’ flight from Midgar and takes us across the world in pursuit of the villainous Sephiroth. After a fantastic introduction to the trilogy with FF7 Remake, we’re thrust into a game with a much broader scope and an open world. In the run-up to launch, we had to wonder if Square Enix could get things right out from under the steel pizza or if this part-reimaging, part-sequel was doomed to fail.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth feels like a natural progression. Free from the steel skies of Midgar and its corridor-style design, this direct sequel to 2020's Final Fantasy 7 Remake fully embraces that sense of adventure found in the original Final Fantasy 7, as Cloud Strife and his ragtag group took their first few steps out onto the sprawling world map. Rebirth goes big in terms of scope and scale — but it doesn't always stick the landing.

In 2020, Square Enix redefined the remake by releasing Final Fantasy VII Remake, a revisitation of a beloved RPG that extends beyond that very definition and is wholly unique. Some years later with the follow-up in part two of the remake project with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the studio has done it again, making this hallmark title more than just your everyday remake once more.

My feelings on FF7 Rebirth are mixed. Overall, I’ve played the game for more than eighty hours. That’s a pretty glowing statement in and of itself. I’ve liked a lot of what I’ve played. The writing is wonderful, and despite a few quibbles, the combat is enjoyable. However, as the game went on, frustrating, tedious mechanics and mini-games detracted from the experience in a big way. FF7 Rebirth is the middle entry in the Remake Trilogy, and it feels like a middle entry. It pushes Remake forward in some ways that are genuinely admirable, but a lack of refinement and...

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth greatly expands upon the world of Remake, both literally and figuratively. The map proves massive, but its various activities make it a joy to explore. It adapts the most exciting section of the original game, leaning into the adventurous and ridiculous elements. Though it can’t always maintain that momentum, it’s remarkable how much variety, exploration, and wonder this game provides. Rebirth arrives as one of the best games of the past decade.

Despite it all, a stellar combat system, evocative soundtrack, and extensive cast of characters make this a journey worth seeking out, even if the pieces don’t fit perfectly. I look forward to seeing how they tie this story together and hope that its third entry is more focused on what makes this series special.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is a beautifully crafted experience that fans old and new will absolutely love. It almost goes too far in correcting the first game's linearity with broad open areas stuffed with things to do, but there's also key additions to the combat, and the story running through this middle chapter is masterfully retold. Really the biggest problem you'll have once the credits roll is knowing that it will be far too many years before we can finish the trilogy.

More open, action-packed, and surprisingly funny, Rebirth gives players days of content and the freedom to pursue it, while still telling a wonderful and cohesive story. Every aspect of Remake has been examined, refined, and improved. This is the franchise's Empire Strikes Back, in all the best ways.

Cloud Strife’s adventures in Final Fantasy VII have been one of the most iconic Japanese RPGs to grace Western shores. Once the pinnacle of the genre, the title surprised any entirely new generation with the bombing mission in Midgar on PlayStation 4 and beyond. With a new console generation and powerhouse to showcase Tetsuya Nomura’s character designs, the second entry in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy is finally upon us as a timed PlayStation 5 exclusive. Will the wide-open landscapes of Gaia manage to succeed to a higher pinnacle now that Cloud and crew are no longer under the...

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a spectacular adventure with best in class combat and visuals that remind you why this world is so beloved to begin with. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has quite the act to follow up – it must both live up to the sky-high expectations set by its predecessor, Final Fantasy VII Remake, and synthesize and modernize perhaps the most crucial chapter in our heroes' adventure across Gaia. While my 80 hours in Rebirth didn't quite match the overall nirvana of Remake, it's a game I struggled to put down. A few stumbling blocks, like a bloated and sometimes tedious open world and intermittently uneven pacing, threaten the highs of Rebirth. But an exciting and well-told story, with an awe-inspiring finale to boot, almost...

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is everything I loved about Final Fantasy 7 Remake with more polish, refinement, and depth. It's a stunning achievement. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is a big step in the right direction that’s unfortunately held back by graphical anomalies and open world tropes. It’s an emotional rollercoaster ride that’s heavily back loaded. It'll pull on your heart strings and make you invested in each character more than ever before. It helps that all the memorable moments from the original are not only retained, but strengthened thanks to the graphical prowess of the PlayStation 5. Combat also remains highly engaging, with slight modifications that only enhance the experience further. Unfortunately, Rebirth is also marred with baffling design choices that stifle its...

When Final Fantasy VII was released 22 years ago, I was a small child and needless to say I did not understand its impact and influence in the gaming world. It was the game that changed my life, and also the game that made me realize you can fall in love...
