Sackboy: A Big Adventure is the hessian hero's best outing yet. Tighter platforming controls and a fresh perspective go a long way to reinvigorating the franchise, and it helps that the whole thing is positively stuffed with charm from beginning to end. Levels that feel lonely when played solo, and worse, levels that aren't accessible at all in single player dampen the experience, but not enough for platforming fans to dismiss it. If you've just brought home a shiny new PlayStation 5 there's also a lot here to showcase what the console is capable of in both visuals and the...

Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a delight for players of all ages, regardless of the platform you play on. With amazing visuals and a stellar soundtrack, Sackboy delivers one of the most creative platformers in years. PC gamers can of course maximize their experience to their system's best ability, but regardless of the power of your rig, Sackboy is worth a look.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure isn’t at its best on PC, with consistent stuttering and not many graphical options, but it’s still a fun experience you can play with just about anyone.

Media Molecule's been busy with their Dreams design suite for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR, but that doesn't mean that their franchises have been left behind on those previous console generations. Under the careful watch of Sumo Digital, the mascot of the Little Big Planet has been set free to undergo his own big adventure with a few friends sharing the same couch. The aptly-named Sackboy: A Big Adventure brings the stitched up hero into a PlayStation 5 (and PlayStation 4) adventure that fits right up there alongside Astro's Playroom for a platformer that kids of all ages can appreciate.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a blast to play, no matter where you play it. Its PS4 shortcomings only lie with graphic fidelity and loading times. Apart from that, Sackboy is back and better than ever on all fronts and generations.

The classic 3D platformer is something of a lost art. Sure, there are fantastic examples from the past few years like Super Mario 3D World, but games like Voodoo Vince or Rocket: Robot on Wheels just aren’t greenlit anymore. It’s a real shame. Not happy with the state of the market, Sony tapped Sumo Digital to send one of their most charming characters on his biggest adventure yet. The result is Sackboy: A Big Adventure, an enhancting and visually magnificent game the whole family will adore, even if it’s not much of a challenge.

When looking at the PS5 launch lineup, Sackboy: A Big Adventure was not at the top of my hype list. Sure, it’s Sackboy, one of the most iconic PlayStation mascots since LittleBigPlanet’s release on PS3, but having been underwhelmed with the just okay LittleBigPlanet 3, seeing Sackboy’s smiling knitted face didn’t spark much excitement, especially up against the more obvious heavy hitters like Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Demon’s Souls. Sackboy ended up being one of the best PS5 launch experiences, a creatively detailed adventure full of heart that embraces the magic of classic platformers while showing off the prowess of...

The knitted hero known as Sackboy originally debuted in LittleBigPlanet back in 2008, and has returned in its various sequels and spin-offs. Although that franchise has been dormant since 2014, Sony Interactive Entertainment knew that Sackboy is too iconic and adorable to not give him his own game, and thus Sackboy: A Big Adventure was born. Developed by Sumo Digital, Sackboy: A Big Adventure eschews the focus on level creation from the LittleBigPlanet series. Instead, the game puts Sackboy o...

There’s so much to love about Sackboy: A Big Adventure. The levels are so inventive, creative, and fun to play. The game is filled with so much content, including levels that continue to unlock once you’ve completed the main story. There’s also the ability to purchase costumes, re-do missions to get a higher score, and so much more. Levels are filled with so much variety yet each one fits into each world so well. With each level I played, I could tell Sumo Digital put a lot of thought and love into each aspect of the game. From Sackboy’s moveset...

Sackboy is too good a character to sit on the sidelines, but for the last six years that’s exactly what the LittleBigPlanet protagonist has done. With creator Media Molecule turning its attention to the outrageously ambitious imagination simulation Dreams, it’s been six long years since we saw the smile of Sony’s only knitted hero. But with the PlayStation 5’s launch, UK developer Sumo Digital has returned to Craftworld – and the results are remarkable.

It seems like a rule that every console needs a platformer as a launch title, and the PS5 has Sackboy: A Big Adventure. For this game, Sackboy moves up to 3D, and the world is pre-created. It’s a cute, run-of-the-mill 3D platformer that makes for a family-friendly intro to the PS5, and there’s even a PS4 version for those who aren’t ready (or aren’t able due to supply issues) to move up to Sony’s latest console yet.

The first time I heard about Sackboy: A Big Adventure, I’m not going to lie, I felt very skeptical. A series known for being a creative tool for players to design their own levels, now ditching its most iconic features in favor of becoming a straightforward 3D platformer like countless others out in the market? Was that going to work? The fact that this game was being developed by Sumo Digital, the people behind Crackdown 3, and the nearly absent promotion before release, didn’t help eith...

Sackboy: A Big Adventure is an unexpected pleasure. Overshadowed by the likes of Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Demon’s Souls in Sony’s launch line-up, it’s gone far beyond our expectations – to play it is to love it. An immaculately made 3D platformer with huge amounts of charm, if you’re after something that will never fail to put a smile on your face you ought to consider picking it up alongside your PS5. With its cutesy looks, responsive controls and oodles of imagination, Sackboy: A Big Adventure goes further than ever to make Sackboy the PlayStation mascot he deserves to be.

Sackboy has proven to be a character who’s pretty much up for whatever, including his starring role in the LittleBigPlanet series, a kart-riding spin-off, and even an appearance as a fighter in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. In Sackboy: A Big adventure, the character brings his blank-slate appeal to a 3D platformer. Sure, he’s been jumping, punching, and throwing his way across hand-crafted worlds since his inception, but almost always with an eye toward tutorializing user-creation tools. Freed of those responsibilities, Sackboy – and players – can simply kick back and enjoy the action in another family-friendly showcase.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure starts off slow, feeling like a hollow reflection of the franchise, but eventually grows into its new 3D platforming elements. It's at its best when it blends the new with the old, when there's power-ups, side-scrolling and a meaningful challenge, but it takes a bit too long to get it together.

A Big Adventure is a lovely spin-off of LittleBigPlanet that’s filled with charming sights and sounds alike. Its level designs are adorable and creative, really shining in co-op but still entertaining when played alone. Its platforming can occasionally frustrate, falling short of the precision and nuance needed to really make it stand out from other games like it, but the feel-good vibe that permeates every corner of its crafted world still makes it a joy to play.
