A flawed gem of a game. Shiny and enticing on the outside, but with cracks in the middle that make you realise it's not quite as pretty and as valuable as you thought it was when you picked it up.

Star Wars: Battlefront 2 will go down as one of the biggest screw ups in video game history. EA and DICE had the easiest job in the world and completely ruined it with the absolutely ridiculous and downright unacceptable progression system for multiplayer. Combine that with the incredibly boring, lazy, and cliche story campaign and you easily have the biggest disappointment of 2017.

So, does Star Wars Battlefront II fulfill the Star Wars fantasy? I believe it does, but it’s a very Empire Strikes Back fantasy; it’s not all lightsabers and Force-using. Sometimes it takes a blaster or two to get the job done or some fancy flying. It may require some frustrating moments of Dagoba-style training. At the end of the day, no matter who gets frozen in carbonite or loses a hand, you’ve got your squad to think about. Only together can you overcome the odds stacked against you.

There's a disappointing quantity of content upon release but the quality and entertainment factor is outstanding.

Yes, there are issues. It would be nice to be able to play this game offline; it would be nice to have the extra planets added before they released the game; and yes, I worry that essential features will be added to the game in the future and they will not be free, but as it stands, Battlefront is one of the most immersive videogame war experiences of this console generation. In fact, it is one of the most immersive war-games of all time, which is ironic considering it is based on a mythical science-fiction universe, but pains have been taken to create a dirty kind of realism. Watch your character flinch as a laser grazes their shoulder; they stagger on, only to stumble as the shockwave from a thermal imploder rocks the screen. TIE fighters scream overhead, dropping payloads of laser fire, sending your comrades up in flames. It is in many respects a brutal game, reminding us that the Star Wars universe is at its best when it is dark.

Overall, Star Wars Battlefront is yet another arcade shooter that Star Wars fan didn’t quite expect as a successor of the critically-acclaimed Star Wars Battlefront II. With the lack of content, game modes, heroes, customization, space battles, and the prequel era – the game is quite a disappointment to Star Wars fans. Despite these negative factors of the game, visually Star Wars Battlefront is stunning. It brings the game to life and gives a half experience of what a true Star Wars game should be in the first place.

Star Wars Battlefront is a graphical tour de force that fails whenever it becomes an interactive experience. There are hints of better games here, but nothing that saves it from mediocrity.

Star Wars: Battlefront is everything a Star Wars fan could want. The game’s locations feel iconic, complete recreations of the beautiful settings introduced to us in the movies. But the game’s casual attitude towards weapons, and the limited number of locations to explore make Star Wars: Battlefront sizzle out far too early. Top that with an exorbitant DLC offer, which features content that feels like it could be in the base game, and EA has already done a great job of freezing Star Wars: Battlefront in carbonite before it’s even had a chance to live a fulfilling life.

While it doesn't quite reach its full potential, Star Wars: Battlefront harnesses the power of the Force to make for a multiplayer experience that's more concerned with fun and authenticity than deep mechanics and impeccable balance. DICE has absolutely knocked the presentation out of the park, making you feel like you're smack dab in the middle of your favorite action scenes from the classic Star Wars film trilogy. For many Star Wars enthusiasts, that's going to be more than enough to justify the price of admission. For everyone else, however, a limited amount of content and a few missteps will potentially diminish long-term appeal. This is a strong return for the Battlefront moniker, but there's much room for improvement.

Sometimes we gamers are an awfully cheap date. Slap a couple of Ewoks and a jetpack in a pre-rendered trailer and our hearts are all aflutter.

Star Wars Battlefront may not offer unlimited entertainment for years to come or the best environment for fiercely competitive gamers, but there's no denying that it does a brilliant job of giving Star Wars fans a chance to walk around and live in the iconic universe. A game like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic may do a better job of expanding the lore, but Battlefront does the best job (to date) of giving gamers the opportunity to walk around in the movies' settings.

Like a young padawan learning the ways of the force, if there is one thing us Star Wars fans have had to come to terms with, it’s patience in the promise that ‘there is another’. Just like the hotly awaited episode 7 in theaters next month, a decade since the conclusion of the prequel trilogy; battlefront fans can finally rejoice in the release of Star Wars Battlefront from EA.

The Death Star hangs ominously over a war erupting on the forest moon of Endor. A cacophony of laser fire lights up the darkened tree canopy, drowned out by the clanking of an Imperial AT-ST on the march. The walker is clearing a path to a hidden Rebel base deep within the forest. If this stronghold falls, the war is over. The Rebels are outgunned and seconds away from defeat when Luke Skywalker’s iconic green lightsaber ignites and he springs to action. Luke bats away Stormtroopers like flies, chops down the AT-ST, and the Rebels suddenly have momentum again. The tide of war has shifted to their advantage.

One of the best-looking video games ever made and although relatively shallow the spectacle and excitement of the Star Wars universe comes across superbly well.

Beautiful but lacking in content, Star Wars: Battlefront has the potential to please Star Wars fans, it's just a matter of for how long.

Star Wars Battlefront captures the essence of Star Wars beautifully, harnessing the most exciting and memorable pieces of the universe for a unique and spectacular combat sandbox. Aside from awkward performances and a poor original score, Battlefront is a master class in aesthetic authenticity. Beyond a few essential modes built for casual competition, however, Battlefront is unfocused, relying on excess game types to compensate for an absent single-player campaign.
