The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles isn’t just far and away the best entry in a long running franchise, it's one of the greatest visual novel games ever made.
Finally, the music is one of the best parts of this collection. Every track, from the grand Court theme to the duology’s exciting take on “Pursuit,” feel perfectly suited to the moments in which they’re used. Almost every single track is insanely memorable, and worms its way into your head upon just a few listens. I’m listening to the soundtrack as I write this purely because of how catchy the soundtrack is– I just keep wanting to hear it again and again.
The Ace Attorney series has really come a long way since its debut 20 years ago and now, western audiences finally have the opportunity to play through 2 of the latest iterations which are set in the Victorian era and feature a familiar fellow.
Almost perfect if not for the nitty-gritty. If it’s quite there but not enough to push the boundaries, it’s still an awesome game.
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles as a unified duology really captures everything that draws players into this series in the first place. It’s got big reveals and turnabouts, clever use of examinations and deductions, and a cast littered with memorable, endearing characters. Naruhodo’s journey through the legal system of London is one that’s been a series highlight. It’s nice to finally have these games in the West, as both a great onboarding point for newcomers and a nice treat for Ace Attorney fans. No objections here.
Get ready to cross-examine your opponents and reason your way to justice in The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, a collection that tells the story of an ancestor of Phoenix Wright, the protagonist of the Ace Attorney series.
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles tells a brand new story featuring new mechanics that bring life to each case in what is easily one of the best entries in the series.
Before Phoenix Wright ever donned his defense attorney badge and set foot in a Los Angeles courtroom, his ancestors were navigating the treacherous path between truth and damning a client to false imprisonment. In The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, players will embark on a new era of courtroom trials set within the height of the Meiji era of Japanese history. As Ryunosuke Naruhodo, predecessor to Ryuichi Naruhodo as he's known in the original Japanese release, players will work as one of Japan's first fictional defense attorneys and work to save ten unlucky souls from a fate of false imprisonment solely due to being in the wrong place at the wrong time, often in a locked room with the victim.
The Great Ace Attorney is the series at its very best, elevating the series to new heights.
The Ace Attorney Series, as illustrious as it is, has been going through a bit of a dry spell… especially here in the West. In the past eight years, the only game we’ve gotten is Pheonix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice in 2016. Not so in Japan: they got The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures and then The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve just a few years later. These spinoffs, starring Pheonix Wright’s ancestor Ryunosuke Naruhodo, turn back the clock to the turn of the 20th century, ...
Whether you’re an old fan of the series, looking for a fun visual novel about courtroom intrigue, or just saw a few of the series memes flying around and want to know what it’s all about, you owe it to yourself to pick up The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles.
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles is two brilliant games for the price of one, and it not only gives us more of what we love, but gives us something that is visually, narratively, and historically deeper than ever before. There's a bit of a learning curve that you'll have to get on top of to meet the game where it's at, but honestly, we couldn't have asked for a better version of the game we've been wanting for years.
For as much as The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles tries (and succeeds) at keeping the franchise’s core elements intact, it also takes some fun and meaningful new chances. I think one my few laments is there aren't really deviating branches and there's little reason to go back once you're done with the story beyond your own interests in re-experiencing it. However, the additions to the working core formula are thoroughly enjoyable and make the whole thing another gold standard classic for the visual novel genre. With its strong cast of characters, complicated and compelling cases, and a good combination of new and classic elements in a good, lengthy prequel story, The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles is courtroom drama I couldn’t put down till I saw a mystery through to the end.
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles has all the hallmarks of the Ace Attorney series, with excellent characters and brilliant writing through the remastered duology's ten cases, but there's some clever flourishes that make the story and gameplay far more interesting and enjoyable. The only objection we have is that it took far too long for these excellent Victorian adventures to reach the West!
I understand visual novels aren’t for everyone, but it’s hard to find a reason not to suggest The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles to even the most ardent visual novel skeptics. With an excellent story, fun characters, and an amazing soundtrack, it really is an excellent game well worth the time spent playing. It does feel a bit derivative of other games in the series, and whether that is good or not depends on how much one enjoys the other games. Still, if you have not had a chance to enjoy the world of Ace Attorney before, I highly recommend picking up The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles for the Nintendo Switch and giving this legal gem a try.
Game translation (“localization,” if you’re nasty) is an often unsung profession. No matter how well-received or lauded the writing of a game is, praise is
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles is a fantastic duology that visual novel and mystery fans will love. It’s also a great starting point for newcomers in the Ace Attorney franchise. With strong writing and deep, yet fun characters, this bundle will keep you engaged for every minute of its 50-60 hour runtime.
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles brings together two volumes of one magnificent story that no Ace Attorney fan should miss. The characters are fantastically kooky, the plot is as compelling as ever, and the writing is the series at its funniest. While there are some minor pacing issues with some of the cases, it’s a fantastic package for fans both new and old.
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles is a wonderful game that will win over adventure/puzzle and visual novel fans with its humor, quirkiness, and genuinely tense moments. Even without mainstays like Phoenix, Apollo, and Maya, franchise fans will feel right at home.Read More
Let me start off by warning you that The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles is NOT a brand new game. In fact, just like the previously released Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy, this is a collection of remastered versions of 3DS games that had been exclusive to Japan up until now. Does that mean this is an inferior collection, something not worth taking a look? Absolutely not. Despite a few issues not present in other Ace Attorney games I’ve played in the past, The Great Ace Attorney Chronic...
“The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles is a must-play for fans of the series and anyone interested in visual novels.”
Subsisting on fan translations no longer, the Great Ace Attorney Chronicles bundles the duology into one complete package for the Nintendo Switch, PS4 and PC via Steam for people to officially obtain from 28 July 2021 onwards. Let’s not beat about the bush too much and get right into it.
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles tells one slow, cohesive story that builds to a stellar payoff.
However you feel about Herlock Sholmes, there’s a lot to love in The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. With 10 cases to work your way through, this duo of games packs in a lot of content – and for its asking price, it offers excellent value. The stories that run through each case, despite being cumbersome at times, are strong enough to keep you invested, but it’s the joy of piecing together the evidence that will keep you coming back. Whether you’re a newcomer to the Ace Attorney series or a long-time fan, you’ll find something to enjoy here.
Ace Attorney meets Sherlock Holmes turns out to be a great premise for a new game, with a subtle change in formula that works as both absurdist comedy and historical drama.
This court finds The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles guilty of being a bit uneven, but it more than makes up for it through the quality of the second game in this two-game package.
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles' one-two punch of newly-translated ports is a fantastic package for both newcomers and long time fans, even if it falls prey to longstanding pitfalls. A compelling narrative stacked with an eclectic cast and top-notch writing drives a satisfying, if simple, gameplay loop that's like little else in the genre.
Like you would come to expect from the franchise, The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles features both classic detective and Ace Attorney series tropes and gameplay that come together around some very intriguing mysteries that will keep you busy for many hours across the interconnected story of the two games included in the collection.

A courtroom visual novel with a flair for the dramatic.
Packed with colorful characters and quirky storytelling, The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles should feel comfortably familiar to longtime franchise fans. Newcomers, however, might be put off by the dialogue-heavy experience.
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles exemplifies Capcom's remarkable efforts in delivering such a difficult localization. Read the Twisted Voxel review.
The humour is thankfully intact, but the mysteries grow as ornate and heavily threaded as Sholmes’s overcoat.
All in all, The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles is a wonderful entry point for players fresh to the franchise. The main cast of characters is charming and bursting with personality, even without voice acting; there are so many entertaining cases to go through, and the courtroom dramatics will keep players mostly intrigued and on their toes. The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles isn't the best pair of Ace Attorney games out there, but they will still provide players with an enjoyable experience that will last for many, many hours.
