Where it succeeds isn’t in how close it scrapes to the level of prestige TV, or to films. Its coup is not, “Look how closely we can make games resemble highbrow art.” It’s more, “Look what previously fenced-off realms we can get interactivity into.”

The Last of Us Part II is messy, bleak, and brutal.

The Last of Us Part II is a disappointing sequel to a game that inspired so much creativity in me seven years ago. Its myriad attempts to ground and contextualise horrific violence quickly grow tiresome and the deaths of its major characters are all too predictable. Every moment of intimacy or humour is almost immediately drowned out by more hours of ceaseless mutilation, throat-slitting and suffering. The chapters with Abby and Lev were a welcome change of pace and tone, but I find myself ultimately wishing that we’d gotten a Lost Legacy-sized game focused solely on those two. Maybe Naughty...

The last few months weren’t kind to The Last of Us Part II. This was a game that suffered tons of delays. Its developer, Naughty Dog, suffered allegations of putting their employees into abysmal working conditions (and if this is true, they surely deserve to be punished). Its script got leaked by hackers prior to release. It suffered backlash from intolerant groups on the internet, who (wrongfully) claimed the game was promoting an anti-Christian agenda, not to mention the unnecessary amoun...

The Last of Us Part II is what I have been waiting for since its announcement. All of the delays and the months of no updates was definitely worth it. I was hooked, just from the first few minutes of playing the game. While the new game mechanics were a bit difficult to deal with, it added enough challenges to make the game enjoyable.

The Last of Us Part 2 just isn't as good as the first game, but nevertheless warrants a playthrough for most fans of the series.

Like the original Last of Us, some people are going to come away underwhelmed, but the story beats and the characters driving them are the main draw. Part II doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it gives us a lasting glimpse of a unique broken world full of broken people that’s worth visiting time and time again.

The Last of Us Part II Review - The Last of Us Part II is an era-defining game, a perfect companion to the first that harmonizes with, rather than smothers, that original pivotal ending, crafting an unforgettable and emotionally challenging narrative with these beloved characters.

The Last of Us left a memorable impression. Its immaculate presentation, award-worthy performances, tense gameplay and thought-provoking story left players in awe back in 2013. It's a hard act to follow, but Naughty Dog has managed to craft a highly-ambitious sequel that builds and expands on what made the original so successful. Built on the idea of cyclical violence, The Last of Us Part II delivers an emotionally raw story. It may go on a little too long, but its rousing themes and performances make it a gripping tale from start to finish. The world is larger, giving players more...

The scope and ambition of this game are a level above the previous one. Even if its execution is only slightly more askew this go round, it's no failure to bullseye a much more lofty goal, a shot that still hits the target for an excellent gaming and storytelling experience.

The Last of Us Part II builds off of the ambiguous ending to the first game and spins it into a narrative that is both bleak and gut-wrenching. For a world wrecked by the aftermath of an infection on the scale of a zombie infection, any hope for survival might rest on the shoulders of a young teenager that holds the secret of immunity in her blood. In The Last of Us Part II, the latest game from The New Dogs at Naughty Dog, this is one PlayStation 4 exclusive you won't want to miss if you have the stomach...

While the Uncharted franchise is great, Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us is on another level, offering a strong, female, lesbian protagonist in a post-apocalyptic world where chaos reigns and pockets of survivors try to do right by themselves and those they love. It single-handedly propelled Sony and the PS4 (and the PS3 and the end of its lifecycle) to stratospheric heights, asserting that the console would offer up gritty, narrative-driven adventures to best all others.

It is difficult to think of a sequel that has as much anticipation and expectation behind it as The Last of Us Part II. The original arguably defined a generation, proving to be a wonderfully provocative swansong for the PlayStation 3, pushing the hardware to its absolute limits. It created a new exciting franchise for talented developer Naughty Dog to flex their collective muscles, proving that they are more than capable of pulling off a gritty, tonally dark and particularly violent adventur...
