With Until Dawn Supermassive proved they know how to tell a good story with somewhat interesting characters and good pacing, which is all the more disappointing that their first proper follow up, The Quarry, comes up short on so many levels.

As a fan of Supermassive's other games I was really excited for this one, hoping it would be as good as Until Dawn, but after I finished it I just felt disappointed, especially with the abrupt ending and bad writing that made me not even want to try another playthrough to see how else the story could have played out.

Once the sun rises and the bloodbath ends, you’ll be itching to play The Quarry again to see what other outcomes there are. this is Supermassive’s most refined horror game to date, but it just falls short of snatching Until Dawn’s gore-crusted crown.

The Quarry is a pulse-pounding teen slasher packed with strong characterisation, amazing atmosphere, and scrumptious visuals. Yes, it's not exactly the most challenging game thanks to dumbed down QTE events and interactions, but with a great story and heaps of replay value, you won't really care. If you're a fan of Until Dawn, then this is a must-have.

The Quarry's strong cinematic horror experience and intriguing narrative make it a worthy spiritual successor to Until Dawn.

This game is such a tribute to a beloved genre that it even contains rules that will help you to survive (if you bother to learn them.)  It may not be the cheapest but it sure is an experience to enjoy.  Having Jason’s ‘kill, kill, kill’ motif echoing around your head as you play it is not a prerequisite but it sure is fun.

Supermassive Games has made a name for themselves as creators of video games bordering on interactive movies. Their biggest success came from their first outing into this genre, Until Dawn, back in 2015. It was praised by fans and critics alike for its realistic graphics, branching paths, weighted decisions, and B-movie feel. Following the success of Until Dawn, came Until Dawn: Rush of Blood; a criminally underrated VR rail shooter. Next came The Dark Pictures Anthology series, which once a...

At the end of the day, The Quarry is a welcome return to what made Supermassive Games famous in the first place. It’s a bloody good time with worthwhile choices to choose from, and so long as you’re willing to deal with some minor flaws, you won’t walk away disappointed.

The Quarry has blockbuster aspirations but never quite manages to rise above B-movie cheese. However, it’s still a well-structured interactive horror experience with a cast of mostly likable characters and a couple of highly effective twists.

Camps are known to be dangerous at night in most horror films. How does Camp Hackett stand up to that trope in The Quarry?

The Quarry is a fantastic return to form for Supermassive Games. Every character stands out well on their own thanks to the fun and excellent writing. The monsters and villains, while not terrifying, are a very cool take on the Summer Camp Horror stories that we’ve seen time and again up until now. With just a little more refinement on the rough edges, there’s no doubt this game would’ve been a top 10 horror game. Even then, The Quarry is memorable, and I highly suggest you check it out, especially with a group of friends.

If you've ever watched a teen horror movie and found yourself yelling at a character as they run upstairs instead of outside, The Quarry is here to help as it puts you in control of 9 teenagers as they try to survive a night of terror.

The Quarry is still filled to the brim with thrills, tough choices, and brutal deaths. Unfortunately, it still suffers from the same pitfalls that have plagued past titles. It's worsened by poorly written character relationships and a rather unsatisfying ending.

While I can’t say I’m dying to do another full playthrough immediately — this is not a short game! — I will say I was into The Quarry just about every step of the way. I’m stoked to see some alternate pathways and gnarly deaths when they pop up on YouTube, and I’ll do a second run sooner than later. I’ll be in the mood again by Halloween for sure.

Following on their well-tread path of choice-based horror experiences, developer Supermassive Games are back with their next teen slasher title. The Quarry tasks players with making the decisions needed and having the reaction time required to keep alive a group of young adults who find themselves fighting to survive a night of supernatural horror. With 186 different endings, The Quarry is in many ways an advancement on what Supermassive have done in the past, proving to be a return to form f...

A fun but poorly paced horror adventure that's both slow to start and over too fast

Is The Quarry Supermassive Games’ best game yet? It’s bloody close. In many ways it outshines Until Dawn, but it’s a shame its final chapter doesn’t feel quite as eventful as we’d have liked. The visuals the great, the characters are brilliantly acted, and the horrors you face truly are terrifying. Combine that with impactful decisions to be made, which will encourage you to play through The Quarry multiple times, and you have a horror experience that’s not to be missed.

The Quarry sees Supermassive Games back on top form with a spiritual successor to the superlative Until Dawn that comes mighty close to knocking that classic off its lofty perch. There's a fantastic cast of well-observed characters to get to know here, a narrative that packs in several threats and plenty of twists, turns and light-hearted moments to sit alongside its shocks and juicy revelations. With jaw-dropping visuals, a cracking soundtrack and plenty in the way of replayability in order to see every outcome on offer, this is an interactive horror experience that's well worth jumping into.

The Quarry is a reminder of just how great Supermassive's games can be when given the time and the right amount of polish. A longer runtime over previous The Dark Pictures Anthology titles allows for more character-building and thus you're more invested in them and their plight. A number of gameplay improvements, an intriguing story, likable cast of characters, and tough choices combine to make for Supermassive's strongest horror outing since Until Dawn kickstarted it all those years ago. The Quarry is an easy recommendation for players who have been watching campy horror movies for years, wishing they could make...

The Quarry is predominantly a successful offering from Supermassive, with a satisfying amount of scares paired with recurring weak points from previous titles that slightly mar the experience. The positives far outweigh the negatives, however, and the game will no doubt please fans of the genre with its fun though not entirely innovative story. The Quarry fully delivers on its promise of a campy horror experience and is one of the best titles from the developer since Until Dawn.

The Quarry is an attempt at a horror amusement park, pulling influences from numerous movies across the entire genre. But what happens when some rides in the proverbial amusement park are clunkers? In struggling to recreate Until Dawn, Supermassive fails to learn from its newer lessons discovered by making more focused games.

The Quarry is a tense horror adventure with incredibly likable characters and some effective scares. The central mystery is fun to figure out, and the game doesn’t take itself too seriously. While there are a few hiccups, you can either work around them or ignore them as they’re not so major as to detract from the overall experience. This is Supermassive’s best work yet.

With The Quarry, Supermassive heads back to the woods with mostly positive results. The story is not much to write home about, and the paring back of physical control of characters’ actions leaves some empty spaces. Still, the cast is generally likable, the presentation impressive, and there’s plenty of joy to be found in manipulating the lives of these poor young souls. The Quarry has plenty of thrills, chills, and kills, but also an abundance of filler.
