As it happens, though I played for much longer, I had had more than my fill after the first four hours, with no desire to venture back in.

I treat the mainline Far Cry games as some of my favorite dumb fun comfort food in gaming. I usually despise their spinoffs, with Primal being one of the most boring AAA games I’ve played this generation. Although, when it comes to giving me a sandbox full of guns, wildlife, explosions, and a charismatic dictator to murder, I always look forward to playing them, despite the shortcomings that usually come with a staple “open world Ubisoft game”. Far Cry 6 might actually be the culminatio...

The story in Far Cry 6 falls flat for me. Usually, it’s the rote gameplay loop that is the killer in these games, redeemed by a great story and interesting setting. Not this time. The only thing keeping me going was the £50 I spent and Camila Cabello’s Havana stuck in my head as I rode horseback through the Cuban-- Ahem, I mean Yaran streets.

“Far Cry 6 could be the most interesting and complex game Ubisoft has made in recent times.”

Far Cry 6 is fun, there’s no doubt about that. Yara is a fantastic backdrop, and if you enjoy mindlessly shooting stuff up, you’ll absolutely be in your element. You probably won’t really care much for Dani’s story though, and the game’s tonal dissonance can be somewhat off-putting. But lean into the mayhem and you’ll have a good enough time, even if you don’t remember much about it once you’ve turned the game off.

Far Cry 6 finds the series at its most complacent and stale, showing little desire to push things forward and missing the mark when it comes to its story and villain. And yet, despite the tired recipe, there’s still an adequately enjoyable first-person shooter underneath that manages to offer the freedom expected of it and make popping the heads of countless dumb opponents feel satisfying.

If Far Cry 3 was the last game you really got into, or the modern Far Cry formula is your meaty open-world experience of choice that somehow never loses its potency, you’ll find a lot of comfort in Far Cry 6. Otherwise, get to it when you get to it, and try not to burn out.

If you've played any one of Far Cry 3, Far Cry 4, Far Cry 5, or Far Cry: New Dawn, then you already know exactly what to expect from Far Cry 6. Ubisoft is back with yet another course of comfort food in its exotic open world FPS franchise, and this review feels almost inconsequential in its effort to explain what's what for a fifth time; the formula really hasn't changed for almost 10 years. What we will say then is we think Far Cry 6 is the best game in the series yet. However, whether that actually means anything...

Early on in Far Cry 6, a character explains that a revolution isn’t something that happens once, but rather something that will keep happening. History is destined to repeat itself over and over. The irony of Far Cry 6 using this as a theme isn’t lost on me. And yet, here I am, unable to break free of this franchise and somehow still enjoying it all.

After five mainline entries and two full-sized spin-offs, you might be thinking the Far Cry train has run out of steam. But here, on its full next-gen debut, a South American world of carnage, chaos and crisp linen suits awaits.

In a decade, players have been graced with now eight distinctive Far Cry experiences from Ubisoft that all have a core focus at play: explore a massive open world as you slowly erode a dictator’s power until they can be toppled. Players have done this time and time again, from Hoyt Volker and Pagan Min to Joseph Seed and now Anton Castillo. Each time, a new region of the world and a new power struggle but a familiar tale nonetheless. With the power of next-gen consoles and Giancarlo’s acting prowess, will players enjoy exploring the fictional nation of Yara for...

Far Cry 6 doesn't do a lot to shake up a tried-and-true formula, but still offers up an engaging story and plenty of enjoyable open world mayhem in the series' best setting to date.

Colourful and brutal, funny and horrifying, Far Cry 6 is the distilled essence of its franchise, as well as a richer and more coherent experience than recent outings.

Even with a few missteps, Far Cry 6 is a triumph in a few ways that should be celebrated. The graphics are spectacular, and I imagine they will be spoken about by everyone who visits Yara. The choice to leave the skill tree behind has resulted in engaging combat that makes the gameplay feel tighter. Mix in a few fun activities while ignoring some that fail to resonate, and the good far outweighs the bad. Far Cry 6 is an immensely fun game that series fans and open-world aficionados won’t want to miss.

Far Cry 6 has done a great job tweaking the mechanics typical of the series and creating some extremely fun and chaotic gameplay. While the main antagonist doesn’t shine like some of the past baddies in the Far Cry series, you’ll fall in love with the diverse cast of characters and the island of Yara.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from Far Cry 6. I’ve loved and hated the series (I’m looking at you Far Cry 5’s ending…). This game is a triumph in every way. They have fixed so many of the issues I had in the past. Gone is the map bloat, the resource grind, the terrible feeling of gunplay on a controller. In its place is something truly special, and a game I can easily recommend to anyone that has ever been a fan of the series.

Far Cry games are usually a safe choice for satisfying first-person shooter action taking place in a big open world, with a story driven by an exceptionally charismatic villain who loosely ties things together. There’s normally very little standing in the way of fun, especially when a co-op buddy joins the fight. However, while Far Cry 6 does have the staple arsenal of guns, open world, big villain, and full-featured co-op, this installment disappointingly fails to evolve the series in any meaningful way.

In the thin sliver of perspective throughout the franchise, Far Cry 6 manages to drag a legacy that isn’t inherently suitable to the AAA model into 2021. It may be different to the Far Cry games you know, but the core is the same. The rough edges have just been sanded down, leaving behind the gleaming FPS experience you’re expecting.

The series' foundations have been rejigged to offer an exciting and satisfying new gameplay loop. Not all of the revisions work in its favour, but unfortunately it's the complete lack of change with its approach to storytelling and structure that really holds Far Cry 6 back.

Far Cry 6 is the next iteration of the Far Cry universe, and you can see some of the blending from other Ubisoft properties here. While the formula may be a little more visible than we’d like, and the AI could use a shot in the arm, what is here is a thrill ride adventure sure to give fans of the franchise exactly what they are looking for.

Far Cry 6 is grand in size, scale, and scope. It will make you marvel at its sights, all while enjoying the frantic action. Likewise, I definitely appreciated it due to a shared culture and history with Latin American countries. Unfortunately, it's also bogged down by crashes due to screenshots and atrocious AI combatants. The former can get fixed via a combination of graphics settings, but the latter will require more than a prayer to the Virgen Maria.

No other franchise quite nails the “big violent playground of chaos” vibes quite like Far Cry. It’s one of my favourites of the various Ubisoft open-world templates, providing an endlessly satisfying adventure that has you galivanting about a massive island, causing explosions and slowly capturing piece after piece while completing various enticing treasure hunts, hunting expeditions, races and more. With a likeable protagonist and an interesting narrative that sucks you in and gives yo...

Far Cry 6 sits at the dead-end of a decade of sandboxes. Existing primarily as a sprawling checklist, its story shows flashes of excellence in a barrage of bad jokes and sometimes fun but familiar tasks.

From the Montana wilderness to the frozen peaks of the Himalayas, the Far Cry franchise has taken players across the globe for action-packed adventures. Far Cry 6 carries on the series’ trademark of delivering a massive, open-world playground where players fight for control against a powerful villain. While the dark story sometimes contrasts harshly with goofy side content and characters, Far Cry 6 fires on all cylinders to deliver one of the series’ best games.

A gigantic open-world FPS that has you running between map markers to fell a dictatorship. It's undeniably fun, if a bit overwhelming.
Read Full ReviewWhile Far Cry 6 is not the huge revamp many have been asking for, it is a great time nonetheless. The extensive weapon customization, and new additions like the Supremo weapons and Amigos add even more flexibility to the tried and true formula. The story starts off excellent, and remains solid throughout, although it does start to overstay its welcome towards the latter half of the game. There’s a huge cast of characters, highlighted by yet another iconic Far Cry villain in Anton Castillo. It’s not going to win over any Far Cry naysayers, but fans of the series should...

Far Cry 6 is just another Far Cry game, one that desperately wants to utilize the imagery of a revolution without having anything meaningful to say about one.

The Far Cry series has been taking people to far flung places, and even eras, for over a decade. We’ve been to Pacific Islands, the Himalayas, the remote back country of Montana, the prehistoric past, and a post-apocalyptic future. Far Cry 6 heads to Yara, a fictional country modeled after Cuba. Cut off from the rest of the world by restrictive trade embargoes, Yara is run by a cruel nationalistic dictator named Anton Castillo. Dani Rojas must join the fight against him and his regime, recruiting guerillas to Libertad in order to free the country from Castillo’s ruthless iron grip.

Far Cry 6 isn’t quite the powerful, cinematic experience that Ubisoft promised, but this flawed adventure is still great fun for open-world shooter fans.

Despite the bugs, the déjà vu I get from sneaking around an FND Base, and the filler, I still found myself having a blast in Far Cry 6, both literally and metaphorically (I'm sorry). After 40 hours in, I'm still eager to hop back in, venturing further off the beaten path, clearing out any lingering FND Bases and checking out the Insurgency post-game content to grind out additional weapons and rewards. With a solid story and an engaging cast of characters, with fantastic performances headlined by Giancarlo Esposito, Far Cry 6 is an easy recommendation for FPS fans. Now, if...
