Hot Wheels Turbocharged: Unleashed 2 leans well on tweaks and not transformations. It is a great game that has recharged its predecessor and taken it to a new level. Graphics are visually stunning and gameplay is satisfying. The pocket-sized miniature mayhem title does well to burn rubber on the tracks and race its way into one of the most fun toy-racing games in the industry.

If you asked me to describe Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged in one word it would be fast. Coming off the back of the 2021 game Hot Wheels Unleased, there is obviously a reason developer Milestone added “turbo” to this sequel’s title! The competitive arcade-style racing game taps right into the nostalgia as players race model vehicles from Mattel’s Hot Wheels toy line over tracks that are just as small as the cars themselves. Hot Wheels fans will get to experience the feeling of a...

All in all, Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged does little to alter the winning formula of the first title. It’s still an exciting arcade racer with depth and great track designs, but this iteration feels like it’s coasting on its laurels rather than realizing its true potential. The game is out Oct 19 for $49.99 on PC, Playstation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.

There's a reason why HWU2 will still entertain new, casual, and veteran racing players, and it's the excitement of the unique tracks that will launch them into the stratosphere, created content, and crossover cars arriving soon. It will keep you playing for a couple of hours until your Switch dies, but it's still a worthwhile addition to your library regardless of the platform.

Milestone returns for another spin with Hot Wheels Unleashed – Turbocharged, which is just as fun and challenging as the first game. Only this time, there are tighter controls, so now you can’t blame the game for your mishaps. For fans of Hot Wheels, there are plenty of cars and liveries to slap on them, and you won’t even need to take them out of the box. Yep, it’s like being a kid all over again, and that’s what it’s all about.

The original Hot Wheels Unleashed was one of the biggest surprises from 2021. No one, myself included, expected a lot from a licensed Mattel racing game coming from a developer mostly known for really competent, but newcomer-unfriendly motorcycle titles. That game shut me and everyone else up, being massively entertaining and replayable, all thanks to its simple gameplay and ludicrous track creator. It was also a great foundation for a sequel with better visuals, more mechanics, and even more...

Hardcore Hot Wheels fans will get the most out of Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged, but even casual racing game fans will have a lot of fun with the game. Not everything clicks, and the game could have benefited greatly by having more variety with its track environments, but Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged is an exciting racer with a great set of creation tools that should keep fans busy for quite some time.

Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged has improved and expanded every aspect of the original game, and smoothed out some of the difficulty spikes that entranced/enraged me the first time around. Though the new story is mostly kid stuff, the actual racing is still challenging and wildly exciting. Crushingly good graphics, fun mechanics, and the obsessive collection of amazing toys once again combine to create a fantastic must-play racer.

Hotwheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged does an amazing job in providing a mechanically and visually pleasing experience, but the campaign mode has some downsides.

Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 Turbocharged is like Hot Wheels Unleashed, but better in every single conceivable way. Frenetically fluid and stonkingly fast, this is a quality arcade racer that will slap smiles on the faces of both young and old alike. Just don’t mention the single-player campaign.

As a speed-focused arcade racer, Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged is a joy thanks to the emphasis on going fast, collecting Hot Wheels cars spanning decades, and crafting your own tracks. However, it doesn’t quite have the variety of tracks to keep it fresh throughout, and the story mode is an innocuous affair, leading to middle-of-the-pack results instead of the checkered flag it was chasing.

All in all, Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged isn’t all that different from its predecessor, but it is bigger and better in just about every way. A brand new range of environments and additional vehicle types help to keep things feeling relatively fresh. And new event types are also very much welcome. It’s the new moves at your disposal that really elevate the experience, though. Being able to jump has allowed Milestone to get even more creative when it comes to track design, and it also adds yet more depth – you have to think more about how to use...

Renowned in the genre, Milestone has created some of the most realistic racers to date. That’s why it came as a shock when they drifted into the arcade format with 2021’s Hot Wheels Unleashed. Managing to capture the frantic action synonymous with the brand, the game was an instant hit with fans of the toy line. Returning to the franchise, the sequel, Turbocharged, aims to take the series into the next gear but will the new additions rev up the excitement or stall the momentum established by its predecessor?

We remember as kids setting up our Hot Wheels Octoblast and Shark Park race tracks every weekend, launching cars round them at high speeds while avoiding the giant creatures. It always brought such joy to our young selves back in the day, and so it's great to see that Milestone has captured the essence of that nostalgia and converted it into the video game space with Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged.

Fans of Hot Wheels will feel well served from a nostalgia point of view, and inspired by its huge number of new modes. Unleashed 2: Turbocharged combines furious arcade race challenges with childlike creativity, being able to build tracks any which way, and race them to breaking point. You can feel the Switch’s lack of muscle, with a markedly smudgier feel than the grip offered by more powerful consoles, but as a racing experience bursting with customisation, modes, and creativity to mine, it’s both an excellent successor to the 16-Bit Micro Machines legacy and sits firmly in pole position over...

Playing with physical Hot Wheels was always a blast as a kid, and now playing Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged really recaptures a lot of that same magic. Much of what is found in this sequel is built upon the ground that was laid by the first game, but now it is bigger and better. The Creature Rampage mode is the one really disappointing aspect of the game, as the almost non-existent story could have been handled much better, and the boss battles are the very definition of lackluster. Thankfully, this is very much offset by the increase in the...

Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 doesn’t do much different than its predecessor, for better and worse. If you liked the original, this sequel offers basically more of the same with some new cars and environments. Regardless, it’s a well-made arcade racer with endless combinations of tracks to master and excel at.

Honestly, unless you’re a big fan of Hot Wheels themselves, and derive a lot of joy from unlocking the different digitized versions of real-world toys, you can do better. Cruisin’ Blast came out the same year the first Unleashed did, and that game captured the essence of banging toy cars together in over the top racing environments perfectly. In comparison, Turbocharged is more scattershot, trying to be a Jack of All Trades and only hitting the bullseye with the IP’s aesthetic.

In terms of graphics, the game absolutely delivers on Xbox Series X where I tested it. Vibrant lights via HDR, cars and tracks reflecting them realistically, excellent toy car models, vibrant colours, and most importantly an apparently very stable 60 frames per second all around. The game’s high speed and atypical look makes this one of the most interesting racers on the market from a visual point of view, with many elements really popping out of the screen on an OLED TV.
