“The Force Awakens' is Lego Star Wars at its brick-busting best.”

It captures the spirit of Star Wars, but will feel very familiar if you've played a Lego game recently

Always fun to watch, sometimes tedious to play alone. Star Wars and LEGO solidify their meaningful relationship once again. The developers just need to address a terrible save-game system, and need to clean up some of the bugs forcing reloads. But the LEGO video game formula is still the LEGO video game formula. Just be prepared to still be left wondering "What do I do now?" from time to time.

LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens, is a breath of fresh air for the Lego series. I still remember when the first adaptation type Lego game came out and how bizarre I found it, and you know what?  I still find it bizarre… but I have to admit, I find them damn enjoyable.

The sound is has its ups and downs. Numerous actors, including Harrison Ford and Anthony Daniels, recorded extra original dialogue for the game that sounds smooth and clear. This is in stark contrast to the lines taken directly from the movie. The numerous clips taken from the movie sound echoed and a bit tinny, which makes the jumps from newly recorded dialogue and movie clips jarring. Otherwise, all of the classic Star Wars sound effects are present and accounted for, which is an essential aspect of any Star Wars game.

LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens is a return to the beloved galaxy which is always in constant conflict between good and evil. This time you will be retold the story of the most recent film, The Force Awakens, and you'll be following the new characters Finn, Rey, and Poe as they team up with the well-known resistance fighters from previous instalments – Han, Leia, Chewbacca, et al – in order to take down the biggest threat to the galaxy so far, Kylo Ren. He plans to wipe out entire galaxies with the use of his new super weapon the Starkiller, and the only people that stand in his way are the resistance. So strap yourself into the Millennium Falcon and grab yourself some Wookie Cookie, 'cause this threatens to be one hell of an adventure.

However, like the film did last holiday season, few series can capture that imagination as that of Star Wars, and its LEGO rendition offers that and more with plenty to enjoy from its charming take on the latest film. Like the endless possibilities that its toys have offered, LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens captures the heart and humor of Star Wars in a world where we can build Rey's story to (almost our own liking), and shows the Force is indeed still strong with the series.

Filled with plenty of sly nods and knowing winks, LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens is not only one of the funniest LEGO games we've played, it's also one of the best. If you love Star Wars and you love LEGO, you owe it to yourself to snaffle this up like a hungry rathtar.

A joyful Lego recreation of Episode VII.

They’re the regular antidote to a gaming scene obsessed with realism and mechanical complexity. It’s hard not to have fun with a franchise so uniquely whimsical and carefree in a market of solemn-faced manshoots and gritty sci-fi universes. All they ask is that you have a giggle, smashing brick-things to make more brick-things – and in Star Wars, Lego may have found its perfect partner.

Rather than coming out right at the release of the movie itself, LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens has arrived at the perfect time for fans to not only relive the events of the movie, but do so with that signature LEGO style.

The brick version of The Force Awakens may not be the Battlefront we've been waiting for, but it's certainly one of the best games in the Star Wars and LEGO universes!

Much like the film, this is more a testament to what worked before than a genuinely new experience, but it makes the best of its voice cast and an obvious love for Star Wars.

LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the most gaming fun I’ve had with either series in years. The story is great, the levels are dense with fun puzzles, and unlocking all of the secrets is a blast. Whether I was going through it solo or playing alongside a buddy, LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens proved to be an adaption worthy of its incredible source material.

I never thought I would say this, but Star Wars fans should play a Lego game for new Star Wars canon. After finishing up my playthrough of Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens, I walked away with a better understanding of who Lor San Tekka is, and how he obtained the map leading to Luke Skywalker. I also learned more about two of Maz Kanata’s patrons, and the vital role they played in thwarting the First Order’s bid for galactic domination. The game also gives us a good look at Han Solo and Chewbacca’s smuggling operations, and lets us play through their hunting expedition for the ravenous rathtars. C-3PO’s red arm, Poe Dameron’s rescue of Admiral Ackbar, and more dangling plot points are explained in fun adventures that are surprisingly faithful to the feature film's core content. How faithful? Harrison Ford provides a wealth of new voice work, as does Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, and Adam Driver. The content in this game is better than any deleted scene on the Star Wars: The Force Awakens Blu-ray, and is almost encyclopedic in how much of the film is explored. On top of the new story material, the game introduces a wealth of interesting characters and planets, and allows players to thoroughly explore locations that were only briefly shown in the movie. The content is exciting to dive into, but temper your expectations; as true as developer TT Fusion is to the new Star Wars continuity, The Force Awakens is still a Lego game at heart, and it is every bit as silly and lighthearted as any Lego title before it. That means that Ford was brought in to voice lines about “wookiee cookies,” Chewbacca’s favorite treat, which is referenced numerous times throughout the story. The First Order’s prized stormtrooper army is composed of a bunch of slacking buffoons, more likely to be seen relaxing in hot tubs than doing their jobs correctly. The takeaway from one level is “I love seeing the rathtar’s native habitat,” followed by “I don’t think Han Solo would have used a mini Millennium Falcon to capture them.” The game strikes a nice balance between interesting and absurd Star Wars content, appeasing both fans of Star Wars and the Lego games at the same time.

The Force Awakens is packed full of giddy energy, grand reveals and invigorating spectacle — but it also remembers to ground itself in the human drama, making it a surprisingly emotional ride.
