For the most part, Starbreeze has delivered on its promise of a heist simulator sequel that nails the basics. Its stealth puzzle box missions are a joy to engage with, picking them apart like you would a lock as each peeled layer reveals another challenge to overcome.

Payday 3 provides an extremely enjoyable experience, especially when playing with a squad of friends. Despite minor problems that can become slightly frustrating, we didn't experience anything game-breaking that should deter players from not purchasing. It needs improvement, sure, but overall, this is a solid outing, packed with new experiences to enjoy, so we wouldn't have any issues recommending it as an epic introduction to the series.

If you're a returning player of the Payday franchise, you'll like what Payday 3 offers with multiple heists and keeping its core gameplay design intact. Increased visual fidelity is a big bonus and adding cross-play to increase the player base allows for even quicker matchmaking when the servers are actually online. The first two weeks were difficult, but once in, the confined sandbox design of cooperative heist play is still fun and addicting. Going above those means and looking for something more will mean you will be introduced to the grind of unlocking skills and more guns, no matter how...

A shallow shooter that doesn't offer anywhere near enough bang for your ill-gotten buck.

The joy of pulling off an elaborate heist is alive and well within Payday 3, if you’ve got the crew to back it up. Holding out against an unstoppable police force or sneaking around undetected to haul out as much cash as you and your friends can carry is a blast, but it’s an experience that is severely hampered when queuing up solo. The mission structure and heist objectives are enjoyable, but carry risks of becoming repetitive when things go loud, which they often will when playing with strangers.

Payday 3 gets most of the important stuff right: the heists offer a nice variety and encourage players to experiment with different systems and mechanics. Customization is deep and will keep players on the hook for dozens and dozens of hours. But it’s hard to overstate the blunder that is the online foundation that this game was built on. It makes Payday 3 needlessly frustrating and was the cause of one of the most severe online game outages I’ve seen in a long time. Payday 2 was a game that grew into a co-op masterpiece in the years following its...

I spent a lot of time robbing banks in PayDay 2, but from the beginning the idea of continuing this game was risky to say the least. Ultimately, I had a lot of fun, but looking at the game from a distance... it's far from being a full-fledged sequel.

There’s nothing quite like the thrilling, heist-based gameplay that Payday 2 provided just ten years ago. It’ hashad some fantastic support over the years, and it delivered an incredibly strong post-launch offering, occasionally going a touch too far, with exhaustive DLC lists and some lootbox controversies, that the developers have thankfully backtracked quickly. It was also a game that felt a little bit dated at launch, and got worse over the years as the more ambitious heists started t...

Although Payday 3 has plenty of content to play the game repeatedly, I don't think it has much value for the long haul with its consistent need for an online connection and a reduced mission list. It could get better with the addition of offline mode and the upcoming missions set for the DLC, but it still needs a lot more substance to be a worthy successor of the franchise.

As any larcenist knows, all the best robberies begin discreetly before snowballing into a wild frenzy soundtracked to upbeat electronic music. Payday 3 does this with brimming style, before running away with the money.

The Payday series has always entertained using a mixture of competing gameplay mechanics. Going from an engaging yet sometimes confusing heist-based simulation to a chaotic Left 4 Dead-inspired shooter, each title presented a wildly shifting mission structure that encouraged cooperative play. Payday 3 doesn't reinvent the wheel, as it offers many of the same core concepts found in the previous games. That said, some smart design choices and its fresh coat of paint help elevate it above this popular series' previous iterations.

I want to start this review by offering a small disclaimer. At the time of this review's publishing, Payday 3's servers remain inaccessible to everyone. Luckily, most of my review was done before they got nuked, so that won't hamper my opinions on this game. It will, however, impact my final score as the game is inexcusably inaccessible for a title that demands such a high price from consumers.

Having great customization options, weapons, and an easy-to-do progression system, Payday 3 has the right ingredients to be a great shooter. On the other hand, with no offline mode and a lack of content, it might be hard to get more players to jump into the world for the long run.

If you’re not a die-hard fan of the series, waiting for the server issues to be fully resolved is the best step to take right now. When that is in the past, you may dive into these initially confusing but eventually rewarding heists, knowing that the Infamy system is a stone in your shoes, but cooperating with other like-minded players is an offer you may not want to refuse…in due time.

Payday 3 really is a great time, but only if you have a reliable group of friends to play with. It breaks my heart to say it, because there is SO much that the game does right—but until matchmaking is fixed, I recommend leaving this game in the vault with the other lesser value jewels.

Get ready to make bank with PAYDAY 3, promising a thrilling first-person shooter experience centred around high-stakes heists. Developed by Starbreeze Studios and published by Deep Silver, this cooperative robbery game takes players on a crime-filled journey of intense shootouts and multiplayer action. Coming back after 10 years since the last entry, the crew may be able to get out alive with some cash… but only just.

Payday 3 is a great version of Payday, which in itself was a whole lot of fun. At a decent price and with frantic heist action when things go wrong there is such a lot of fun to get out of the game but we are left wondering whether we could have seen more new stuff after a decade of waiting for this follow-up. It will live or die on the loyalty of the playerbase which hopefully means it will do well.

Everything was going according to plan. After carefully casing a jewelry shop, my crew quietly infiltrated the building’s basement and began creeping through the hallways. I found a security code, one teammate shot out a few cameras, and another cracked a safe without triggering any alarms. It was the perfect crime … almost. One false move was all it took to alert a guard to our presence. As cops began to swarm, we smashed through glass cases and loaded as much jewelry as we could into a helicopter before making an improvised escape.

Not only can fans expect future Payday 3 updates to add more unlockables to the game, but more substantial content like new heists are in the pipeline as well. Future updates will likely iron out Payday 3's matchmaking problems and immersion-breaking graphical mishaps, resulting in a smoother and more consistently entertaining experience. With future updates, Payday 3 may even be a game that surpasses its predecessor, but it has a seriously long way to go. Those still curious should consider checking out Payday 3 through Xbox Game Pass instead of buying the game at full price.
