Persona 5 is one of the best role playing games that I’ve played in years. It’s both a colourful and psychological journey through student life and the darker side of humanity. Combine this story of intrigue with multiple comprehensive systems that are all a joy to get lost in and you’ve got something truly special. While some minor pacing issues and some rigidity with how time is managed bring the experience down somewhat, Persona 5 is a game that everybody should play.

Persona 5 Royal for the Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S and PS5 is the best way to play Atlus’ award-winning JRPG, with all of the previous DLC included. However, completing the game’s main story can take more than 100 hours, and it’s easy to miss a big chunk of the game without proper planning. For players who are willing to invest their time, though, Persona 5 Royal delivers an intriguing coming-of-age story set against the backdrop of modern Tokyo.

Reuniting with the Phantom Thieves one more time.

The Phantom Thieves are back! Having released in Japan last year, Persona 5 Strikers finally makes its way to Western audiences. This new action JRPG blends the brilliant style and story of Persona 5 with dynasty warriors gameplay, giving us whole new way to experience this stellar world Atlus has created.

Persona 5 manages to combine style and substance with the most refined gameplay the series has seen, with some smart writing that doesn't quite always hit the mark

I'm glad to say that Persona 5 is everything I had hoped it would be and then some. The incremental improvements over the gameplay of Persona 4, the visuals, the soundtrack, all of it came together almost perfectly. That translation could have used a little bit more polish, but otherwise this is the finest work Atlus has ever produced.

Persona 5 is a must play for fans of the JRPG genre that delivers an amazing storyline tied together with excellent gameplay mechanics.

Persona 5 is the definition of style and is a masterclass in how to make a good RPG. There’s nothing about it that doesn't make it stand out. The soundtrack is one of the best I’ve heard in a long time, the combat is simple yet surprisingly deep which allows for not only the game to be quite accessible, but it is also easy to pick back up.

The network feature introduced in Persona 4: Golden returns but this time it works in two different ways: allowing another player to come in to prevent an enemy from taking a party member hostage during a fight and, more importantly, allowing you to see whatever everyone did on each day and their average level. This feature is a godsend for newcomers to the series as it gives you a sort of blueprint on how to approach each day which can be an overwhelming experience to anyone not familiar with the series. Even I used it each day for fun to see what people were doing and as a useful way to quickly check which confidants were available to hang out with that day.

When all is said and done however, any minor shortcomings are easily forgiven. Persona 5 is good. It’s very, very good. It’s the sort of game that only comes around once every few years – a game that is so unique in every aspect that it’d be impossible to mistake a single moment of it for anything else. Also, it’s a game about real life, despite the wacky hijinks you’ll often find yourself in. It’s about the moments you have with your friends, laughing around a hot pot as you make jokes only those there would understand. It’s within those moments that Persona 5 enters a league of its own, untouched by its contemporaries in every respect. While I could go on, I must eventually start new game plus so I’ll finish simply with this: Persona 5 is undoubtedly one of the best RPGs of all time. It is truly a special game.

Do you believe in the Phantom Thieves? Are the Phantom Thieves just? Are the Phantom Thieves innocent? Do the Phantom Thieves really exist? The public won't always be on their side in Persona 5, but that won't stop them from taking your heart.

The Phantom Thieves are on a mission to steal the hearts of the most notorious criminals in Tokyo. From a High School teacher who harasses their students to a money-grubbing mobster, no villain's heart is safe in Persona 5.

It’s been a very long time between drinks for Persona fans. No JRPG franchise has quite captured the strong style and identity like Persona has, with gameplay that places the same level of importance on evolving your relationships and studying as it does battling strange otherworldly demons. While other developers have tried, none have been able to balance this as delicately and expertly as P Studio, the team dedicated to bringing Persona 5 to life. This is undoubtedly the most slick and sa...

Overall, Persona 5 has really captured my heart. With 70+ hours of gaming, I haven’t had this much fun since the last Persona game. I will definitely keep playing it and will even play it into the New Game+. The New Game Plus allows you to keep certain items that you have gotten from the game but it resets your relationship meter with the characters among other things. If you are into old school JRPG, this is definitely the game you have been waiting for. At its price point the game is totally worth it and even more. I am even willing to spend for this game’s DLC. It’s just that good. Now let me get back to the game and see if I can pass this school exam.

I could nitpick about small issues, like some textures that are painfully blurry or a handful of quirky localization issues. Those issues fade into the periphery, however. What doesn’t is simply this: Persona 5 is a triumph of game design that stands apart from other JRPGs. RPG fans owe it to themselves to drop what they’re doing and play now. You won’t regret it.

More than simply a cult classic, Persona has become one of the most recognizable names in the JRPG genre for quite some time. Starting out as a spinoff from the Megami Tensei, or MegaTen, franchise, the Persona series have dealt less with the apocalypse setting of its mother series and more so on stories centered around school age students and demonic influence. It’s been nearly nine years since Persona 4 graced the PlayStation 2 with critical appeal and the latest offering, Persona 5, aims to reclaim the crown of being the most stylish JRPG on PlayStation.

Persona 5 expands upon many of the elements that the series has featured in the past, while also streamlining certain aspects to make it an even smoother ride. It’s a spectacular RPG experience that is truly in a league of its own, and fans of the series and the genre in general owe it to themselves to check it out.

If you didn’t dig Persona 4, this is your gateway back into the Velvet Room. Persona 5 manages to differentiate itself not only from the rest of the market, but its own franchise in a lot of standout ways. It still has the rigid backbone of a JRPG, but the organs, skin, and soul are teeming with more personality than most of us could even dream up.

Persona 5 is a difficult game to review – not because of its quality or lack thereof, but because it's such an intricate release. It's a role-playing title made up of many different parts, and explaining each and every one of them in detail would take way too long.

Stylish, fun, and utterly relentless in its vision, Persona 5 delivers one of the best Japanese RPG experiences in years.

March 29, 2017 Read Review

The first few hours of Persona 5 feel like settling in with the opening chapters of a massive novel. Even though you don’t know the characters well or understand where the plot is going, you can feel the weight behind the narrative like hundreds of pages waiting to be read. As new threads and mechanics are introduced, that depth and sense of intent persist, and Persona 5 takes the requisite time to do its many ambitions justice. The result is an uncommonly complex and satisfying RPG in terms of both story and gameplay, and when you factor in its impeccable stylishness, Persona 5 is hard to put down.

March 29, 2017 Read Review

Persona 5 is a massive, gorgeous JRPG with well over 100 hours of gameplay for completionists. With more to do than ever and the series’ strongest story to date, it stands out as an extraordinary, memorable experience and easily one of the deepest JRPGs of the last decade. Its sprawling dungeon design and stylish, fully realized world are an absolute joy to explore, and even after three playthroughs and the Platinum trophy, I find myself itching to go back to try different dialogue options with Confidants or revisit particularly fun puzzles. This is a new gold standard for Japanese RPGs and by far the best entry in the series yet.

Style and substance.

March 29, 2017 Read Review

Persona 5 stole my heart. It was impossible to believe that the best game of the already venerated series was still to come, and yet somehow everything works wonderfully. I’d rather the dialogue didn’t pad things out as much as it did, but I was captivated from beginning to end, while it successfully brought back mechanics long thought out-dated, and introduced smart changes for the better. An essential RPG for 2017 that you should not miss out on.
