Superb port of an already amazing game, perfectly at home on Nintendo Switch looking great and as chilling as ever.

For fans of the Alien series, the films, books, comics, and every other form of entertainment imaginable, Alien: Isolation is simply a must-play, given that it fits so well into the storyline that it nearly seems to be a chapter in it's own right. Brushing up on your Alien, Aliens, 3, Resurrection and - of course - Prometheus might not be a bad idea for those unacquainted, yet the game provides enough backstory to stand up as a suspenseful survival experience on its own. Really, what’s scarier than a half tonne perfect killing machine around…this corner? No, maybe it was...

Through no fault of its own, Alien: Isolation had a lot to prove right out of the gate. Critics were universally disappointed with the last attempt at incorporating the ‘Alien’ franchise into a video game experience with Aliens: Colonial Marines from Borderlands developer Gearbox. It was an over the top shooter that was force fed to the brim with fan service and despite its best attempt completely failed to capture any of the magic that made the movie quadrilogy such a success. I’m happy to report that Alien: Isolation doesn’t suffer the same fate as its predecessor. Developer Creative Assembly...

Alien: Isolation is a masterfully crafted survival horror game by Creative Assembly that immerses players in the tension and helplessness of being stranded on a derelict space station. The game’s intense atmosphere brilliantly captures the essence of the original Alien film, making it a standout title in the franchise. And despite the slow pace at times, Alien: Isolation may be the best game ever to recreate the suspense of the classic film. Now, I can only hope that Sega will greenlight a follow-up.

All these are just minor things however, and while they did drag the score down from the hallowed 9s they don’t stop Alien Isolation from being a superb game and quite possibly the best Alien game ever (although Monolith’s Aliens Vs Predator 2 comes close). At the very least SEGA have redeemed themselves and the franchise. Alien Isolation is a nerve-wrecking, stomach-twisting, bowel-moving, edge-of-your-seat experience and is unlike every other game out there. Now this is true “survival...

Alien: Isolation is not the game fans had hoped it to be, but it's likely the closest to an authentic recreation of the movies that they'll get for now. The sense of tension, the atmosphere, and that ever-present xenomorph are some genuine strengths, but the latter's inconsistent AI and random nature is also a major weakness. Getting through the game is not only a lesson in patience, but it's a barometer for how devoted one is to this sci-fi franchise. Those who hold the movies in high esteem will be able to fight through the clunky mechanics and confounding action...

Overall Alien: Isolation is the game Alien fans have been waiting for. In spite of the numerous broken promises in the last 35 years, Creative Assembly has successfully formatted a love letter to fans of the franchise, one that has taken far too long to get here. A golden standard has been set for all future titles in the Alien universe. Simply put, Isolation is the definitive Alien game that no fan should miss out on.

Alien: Isolation brilliantly recreates the world of Ridley Scott's 1979 classic while offering some fantastic survival-horror gameplay. A few issues crop up over the course of the game, but not enough to damage the overall experience.

The game that Alien deserves. A solid survival horror experience with incredible sound design. While not perfect, it does the series justice; something you can't really say for anything else Alien-related from the last two decades.

Survival horror games, it seems, are back in fashion. Whether it’s poking around abandoned asylums in indie hit Outlast, treading carefully through the same stretch of corridor again and again only to be suddenly stopped in your tracks by something horrendous in Silent Hills‘ playable teaser, or confronting the restless dead head-on in the upcoming The Evil Within, it’s clear gamers get a big kick out of feeling powerless, weak and very, very scared.

Alien Isolation is for people who can withstand a heightened emotional state for a prolonged period of time. Patience, observation, and fast action are paramount. There were numerous occasions, after being brutally killed again and again, that I had to step away and say, "Ok, that's enough." But the thing is, it wasn't. I kept going back to see if I could be a survivor, out maneuver the perfect organism, and get through the level alive.

That idea of never being comfortable with how the game is unravelling is something that feels quite unique and it’s extremely well imagined here. Plenty of survival horror games have you feeling vulnerable as you essentially fulfil the role of a hero but things are different here. In Alien: Isolation you’re not the hero, you’re the prey.

Isolation is the best Alien game I've ever played, I'm in no doubt about that. Even in its awkward moments it is doing something interesting with the license, exploring the edges of what is possible in its world, quietly and discreetly. I expect the debate about certain design choices to be loud and long. At the centre of the debate will be one of the finest entries in the Alien canon in any medium, and one of the finest horror experiences in ours.

Alien: Isolation seemed like the perfect Alien game on paper, and for the first handful of hours it even seems to deliver on its promise on the strength of its outstanding art and sound that faithfully recreates the ambiance of the classic horror film. Instead, what was the Great Xenomorphic Hope ends in another disappointment for a license loaded with interactive-entertainment potential. It’s a shame that Isolation doesn’t track stats, because I’d be curious to know how many of its roughly 15-20 hours I spent hiding in lockers, staring at the motion tracker, and, most of all, how many hundreds...

Alien fans are as unapologetic for their love of the films as they are for their disdain of games that fail to live up to the potential of the IP. While most Alien games take the James Cameron "shoot everything that moves" approach to the iconic sci-fi horror series, The Creative Assembly instead focuses on the original film's claustrophobic intensity and the feeling of being relentlessly stalked by a far superior predator. The result is a game you must learn and play the way it wants you to, but the cat-and-mouse chases provide an experience that's finally worthy of the...

Halfway into playing Alien: Isolation, I stopped to watch the first four Alien movies again. It wasn’t just for research purposes, but mostly because the game had me yearning for more of the universe. Isolation has some flaws, but it’s faithful to the film series, and I’d love to see a follow-up with a few extra alien evolutions.
