Cult of the Lamb has its share of bugs, but the addictive cult management gameplay blends perfectly with its combat crusades and catchy soundtrack. It's a must-play indie game.

Cult of the Lamb is a charming but disturbing project that provides an interesting take on the roguelike genre that combines dungeon delving with city managing in a single title, generously flavored with humor.

The Word of Cult of the Lamb is good, providing roguelike action with heaps of that good ol' fashioned ultraviolence. Those that don't mind a lack of depth with its cult management shenanigans - and can also turn a blind third eye to its hit-and-miss weapon selection - have found their calling.

Cult of the Lamb is a brilliant fusion of Binding of Isaac and Animal Crossing, with an evil twist, and a charming artstyle. The combat is tight, although somewhat limited, and the rewarding base building system is a joy to play with. While it may not top many Game of the Year lists, the 10-15 hour journey is still absolutely worth experiencing, especially considering the low price. It also features unique visuals and an excellent soundtrack which makes it that much more fun to play. Simply put – don’t miss out on this one.

Cult of the Lamb is a fantastic game with a novel idea that gives the player many activities to do while making your very own Heaven’s Gate. A must play for fans of any genre.

If you fall in love with the main loop and the freedom to design and interact with your followers, then you can expect to take at least 30 fun hours out of it, but don’t go in there expecting anything innovative in either the rouge-like or management-sim departments.

Cult of the Lamb is memorable for more than just this silliness, though. While the combat falls short after extended play, developers Massive Monster must be commended for a brilliant blend of ludicrous violence and cuteness that stands tall as one of 2022’s best games.

Cult of the Lamb proves to be a remarkably fresh take on the roguelite genre, not just in its goofy and creepy aesthetic, but in its smart blending of action and survival mechanics. Gameplay remains tense without ever feeling like it’s unfair and a steady stream of unlockables and collectables ensures that your efforts are always rewarded. It’s just a shame that the performance isn’t up to snuff, at least at launch, as that’s really the only major complaint that we have here. We’d still give this a hearty recommendation to anyone who thinks it might be up their alley...

Cult of the Lamb is a fun town-builder with an equally amazing dungeon crawler that never stops until the final boss is handled. Paired with a fantastic-sounding soundtrack and sound effects, it’s hard not to recommend this game to anyone.

From sacrificial lamb to all-powerful conduit of a chained being known only as ‘The One Who Waits’. Cult of the Lamb tasks players with building up their flock, indoctrinating new followers, and taking control of their destiny as they fight back against fate with dark rituals and ungodly sacraments. Half roguelike and half colony sim, Cult of the Lamb is a unique blend of gameplay genres that works to create an addictive gameplay loop whilst adhering strictly to its thematic choices. Go f...

Altogether, Cult of the Lamb is an impressive title that leans heavier on the Roguelite genre than anything else, while still pulling everything it needs from the other genres that separate the games from the Indie crowd. Not every feature or mechanic is perfect, and the story is more interesting as lore than it is as a narrative, but that doesn't seem to be the developer's main focus. With that in mind, Cult of the Lamb succeeds where it matters, from the Roguelite dungeons to the dark cartoon aesthetic.

I really can’t give enough praise to the team at Massive Monster for creating something unique and memorable, and also one of the best indie games I’ve played in a long time. Sure, there's a few rough edges, but this charmingly bloodthirsty lamb that's hell-bent on slaying the unbaalievers has earned a special place in my heart.

It is very difficult to imagine a player that wouldn’t enjoy Cult of the Lamb. Its visuals are so beautiful and full of character. Its writing is witty and charming. Its action is simple, but fun and thoroughly engaging. While its weapon selection and combat mechanics may not be as varied or dense as its peers, its unique aspects more than make up for the deficit.

Graphical and Accessibility options weren’t numerous but what is there did what I wanted, and I ran into zero bugs while playing the game through a review build on Steam. I’ll update this review if the console version has any issues but sadly, I won’t get to play that one until the game is released.

What do you get when you mix the fast-paced dungeon-crawling mechanics of a roguelike with the slow yet satisfying charm of a town management sim? A pretty incredible game, it turns out. Cult of the Lamb by Massive Monster combines the roguelike gameplay of Hades and The Binding of Isaac with Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley’s cute life simulation. In theory, it’s a wild concoction that seems like it shouldn’t work, but in execution, it delivers a must-play experience.

Not only was it exciting meeting the new followers of the cult, but you can customise them with creature parts that you have scavenged, even choosing their outfit colour and renaming your cult members once they have moved into the compound. It is a really cute/disturbing feature that I had a lot of fun playing with, and spent a little bit too much time making sure that my cult members looked as cute as can be! I also enjoyed the idea that you were stealing cult members from the previous cult you were in, purely to spite your old cult...

Cult of the Lamb relies on its demented humor and zany ideas that add charm. Sadly, some mechanics are either too streamlined or troublesome. You're bound to enjoy it for several hours until it becomes repetitive to a fault.

I loved Animal Crossing: New Horizons back in 2020, but its premise wasn’t enough to keep me engaged over time. Designing my island and keeping all of the villagers on it happy was thoroughly enjoyable, but after a few dozen hours, I craved a new type of gameplay to coincide with what I was doing each day. Cult of the Lamb, a mish-mash of adorably cute animals, critters, and creatures and macabre cult-isms, remedies that issue with an expansive action-combat dungeon system. I only wish its base building provided the same kind of satisfaction its combat does. When I wanted...

Cute but morbid, Cult of the Lamb quickly won us over with its varied gameplay and, many hours later, still has its hooks in us. It’s not very often that a game has you sacrificing new friends to a demon, but then Cult of the Lamb isn’t like anything else we’ve ever played. Its town building gameplay works seamlessly alongside its roguelite combat, both keeping you absorbed in their own ways. This is innovative indie gaming at its finest, and we can’t get enough.

Overall, I can see this game appealing to any gamer, regardless of whether they like the horror aspect of it. Although I’m not a huge fan of horror themes in a game, Cult of the Lamb was just tame enough for me to overlook it for the great gameplay, fun mechanics like naming cult members, and the incredibly satisfying combat.

Cult of the Lamb is a fun and worthwhile experience, just an experience I thought that I’d be able to get over and over again. Though it is cut too short, building a cult full of my favorite animal, crusading through lush environments, and vibing to the art and music is a perfect weekend retreat, even if it doesn't last long enough to convert.

Artistically speaking, I don’t think a game could have more depth when exploring its own cutesy abomination theme. The design and palette, aside from the oversaturation at times, wonderfully portrayed this colorfully dark landscape. The music was playfully foreboding with instruments corresponding to the nature of each great monstrosity’s domain. The childlike presentation of the dark certainties of life, death, and taxes never failed to amuse me and draw me in with its moral dilemmas. I believe this is a welcome addition to rogue dungeon crawlers and base builders alike; it certainly stands out as a frontrunner within its hybrid...

I’m a big fan of roguelite action games and city builders, but even if you’re on the mild side, Cult of the Lamb is a winning combo. It draws many of the best aspects of those genres, places them in a one-of-a-kind world, and charts its own condensed course. The result is hard to put down. Despite the morbid subject matter and potential for player fatigue, this is such an easy game to recommend to a wide audience. Go on, spread the good word.
