The new chapter of Ghost of Tsushima adds to Jin's backstory in a way that makes it feel essential, while adding even more of the best stuff from the vanilla game.

Ghost of Tsushima may not be the perfect send off to the PS4 generation, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t have a great time playing through Jin’s life-changing journey. The worst thing I can say about Sucker Punch’s newest game is that it lacks originality. It just barely stands out. But if you really love well-crafted worlds and taking gorgeous pictures, Ghost of Tsushima is definitely worth a playthrough.

Ghost of Tsushima has been one of the most anticipated titles for the WTMG staff ever since its announcement at the 2018 E3. Sucker Punch, mostly known for the Sly Cooper and Infamous series, took us all by surprise when they revealed they would be undertaking a massive open world RPG set in feudal Japan. An ambitious move to say the least and a huge departure from their normal works. To our delight, we discovered that Ghost of Tsushima is exactly what we were hoping for.

Ghost of Tsushima offers an amazing open-world experience and satisfying combat, only mildly held back by its writing and characters.

Verdict: Despite succumbing to some open-world mishaps and side quest monotony, Ghost of Tsushima is a wonderful title with many elements for any audience to enjoy. The story is thrilling and epic, filled with great and classic elements that may be a bit too cliche for some. Yet, the combat is entrancing and very exciting with it’s world-building and exploration being some of the best in recent memories. It’s a brilliant and methodical game that offers only the bravest to claim the glory of becoming the ghost Tsushima needs.

Ghost of Tsushima is the best Sucker Punch game to date. Anyone who is a fan of the developer, or samurai games in general, should not hesitate to pick this one up.

Ghost of Tsushima is a visually stunning and heartwrenching experience that pays homage to the era of the Samurai. Fans of open-world gaming or Kurosawa’s filmography will definitely want to play it. Sucker Punch Productions has produced another stellar gaming experience, and I hope we don’t have to wait long for their next project.

When Ghost of Tsushima was first revealed and shown off back in 2017, it quickly shot up to the top of my most anticipated list of games. Promising a feudal Japan setting, open world exploration featuring a wandering samurai, intense combat and stunning visuals, it seemed like the perfect combination. Not to mention developer Sucker Punch have a history of crafting enjoyable adventures with likable characters. Now, Ghost of Tsushima is finally here as what is likely the swansong for the PlayS...

Ghost of Tsushima is the latest exclusive for the PlayStation 4. Heavily inspired by samurai epics such as those from Akira Kurosawa, how does the latest game from Sucker Punch stack up?

The game may not be an evolution of the genre but it is one of the best versions of it. By mixing a beautiful setting with visceral combat, Ghost of Tsushima hopes that its lesser elements won’t be as bothersome and its story will be able to propel players forward. Personally, the compulsion to uncover every question mark, complete every Tale, and master the combat was very strong. If the idea of controlling a deadly Samurai in an Assassin’s Creed-style open world sounds enticing, the game more than delivers.

While Ghost of Tsushima has a few of the standard pop-ins and visual glitches that are common to most open-world games this is still one of the most beautiful and fluid titles I’ve ever played. While I did have a few moments of frustration, usually brought on by camera angle issues, they are almost completely forgivable when I look at the overall package. There’s just too much here to like and none of it feels tacked on or a time-filler. It’s wonderfully balanced and doesn’t punish you for needing to attempt something more than once. And, even with the camera...

Ghost of Tsushima is an artistic triumph, capturing a real cinematic feel through its visuals, immersive world and soundtrack. However, Jin is a serviceable main character and he and his journey to save Tsushima is often overshadowed by secondary characters and smaller, more personal stories found in the side quests. Throw in some formulaic missions and an awkward user interface, and Ghost of Tsushima is at times more style than substance.

If you thought Sucker Punch Productions’ move from creating Sly Cooper to making Infamous was brave, just wait until you play GHOST OF TSUSHIMA. Progressing from Second Son’s modern Seattle setting with its obnoxious, rebellious protagonist to Ghost of Tsushima’s ancient Japanese backdrop and its honor-driven main character, was a very bold direction to go in. It could have spelled disaster for this Sony developer, breaking the combo of so many fantastic first-party PlayStation exclusives.

Ghost of Tsushima is irresistibly enchanting but just shy of perfection because it never pushes its narrative or gameplay to the cutting-edge. Sucker Punch’s latest tries to do a lot, and it slam dunks a vast majority of its narrative, design, and stylistic choices. Sure, the game could have leaned more aggressively into some of its best features. But I’ll happily take Ghost for what it is: an incredible showcase of everything great about this generation of video games. 9/10.

Most great games stand on the shoulders of their predecessors. Ghost of Tsushima unabashedly borrows many of its strongest features from other open-world adventures, and executes on them with skill. The game owes a tremendous debt to the Assassin’s Creed games; in many ways, Ghost of Tsushima feels like an entry in that franchise set in Japan – something that fans have longed for. But it’s unfair to paint Sucker Punch’s immense samurai epic as a copycat. By tapping into Japanese art, history, and culture, as well as the samurai film tradition that followed, Ghost of Tsushima finds a wholly...

Had Ghost of Tsushima released earlier into the PS4’s life, chances are it would be revered. But now, in a world in which the likes of Red Red Redemption 2 and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey exist, it feels a little underwhelming. Still, it is quite possibly the best samurai game ever made, and is well worth picking up if you’re after another epic open-world to get lost in. Just temper your expectations as much as your steel.

Playing Ghost of Tsushima has been a dizzy dance of expectations versus reality. At so many separate junctions, I’ve slammed into what I wanted to happen, blindsided by the actual events. This game wears the fresh skin of an open world RPG, one crammed full of crafting, karmic choices, and skyrocketing power levels. What I expected, and what I experienced, struggled for weeks to reconcile their differences. So much of this is reminiscent of other titles, different ideas, and similar genres. I’ve been confounded at every turn, and yet I’m enamored all the way. That’s the critical sticking point, you...

Sucker Punch Productions has been hard a work for an incredible amount of time since their last full release, Infamous First Light, way back in 2014 (and even that was a smaller production overall). Ghost of Tsushima represents the studio’s fourth IP in its 23-year history, and with such a lengthy development time, represents no small amount of risk to the company. Was it all worth it? Well, we’ve spent the past few weeks exploring Tsushima island as Jin Sakai and have our Ghost of Tsushima review ready for you to slice up below.

Ghost of Tsushima is an enormous and densely packed samurai adventure that often left me completely awestruck with both its visual spectacle and excellent combat. By steadily introducing new abilities instead of stat upgrades, its swordplay manages to stay challenging, rewarding, and fun throughout the entire 40 to 50 hours that it took me to beat the campaign. A few aspects are surprisingly lacking in polish in comparison to other first-party Sony games, especially when it comes to enemy AI and the stealth part of its stealth/action split. Still this is an extraordinary open-world action-adventure game that solves several issues...
