A great game, even if it's horribly frustrating a lot of the time. While it's a wonderful follow-up to a classic series, this port makes it a bit of a tougher sell than other versions of the game.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time carries the torch for the series, providing a worthy follow-up to Crash and Coco’s adventures. The trial and error gameplay isn’t for everyone, but those eager for a challenge will enjoy doing so with the next-gen prowess of the PlayStation 5.

If you haven’t played Crash 4 yet, this is a competent version of the game if you don’t mind the drastically reduced visuals. However, it is slightly more glitchy and more difficult due to reduced visual clarity and the halved frame rate.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time is an excellent modernization of a decades-old franchise that was beginning to really show its age. This is a thoroughly entertaining, slick and addictive addition to the series that funnels players through a meaty campaign packed to bursting point with inventive set-pieces and devilishly devious level design. There's a ton of content to keep fans busy here with time trials, collectible skins, N-Verted mode and side missions galore in a generous package that sees Crash blast and bound his way through what is easily his greatest adventure to date.

The early Crash Bandicoot games of the ‘90s were partially experiments in how to navigate 3D space. Crash didn’t freely traverse an open world; he marched down tightly designed digital tunnels. The camera zoomed in and out of the action and panned around the character, which seemed novel at the time. However, Crash’s movement was limited in ways that seem restrictive by today’s standards. In some sense, Crash Bandicoot’s gameplay was a product of those limits of technology as much as it was any single creative vision. And yet, those limitations helped produce one of 1996's most memorable platformers. Crash...

After a successful grab at nostalgia with the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, developer Toys for Bob has taken the lead with Crash Bandicoot 4 It’s About Time, a title that’s part retcon, part homage and part sequel. The result is a highly enjoyable platformer that not only returns our favourite marsupial back to his roots but offers some modern, iterative gameplay too.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time goes far beyond expectations with the number of characters, modes, and levels that it includes. Series newcomers are likely to be rudely smacked upside the head by the blistering difficulty, but longtime fans will delight in the incredible ways this title iterates upon its storied past. Highly recommended.

I enjoyed my time with Crash 4 and would easily recommend it to any like-minded fans of the series. Though there aren’t many meaningful changes to how the game is played, it’s still a fun jaunt, and what new content is here is mostly welcomed, despite some unnecessary modern additions. Crash games don’t need a long list of skins or collectibles, but they do need to take a bigger step forward. In a sense, Crash needs to stop living in the 90s.

Once heralded as Sony’s first real mascot character, the jorts-wearing Bandicoot was a rather unlikely hero. Constantly chased down by the patently evil Dr. Neo Cortex, Crash Bandicoot spun his way into our hearts in a number of action platformers that seemingly disappeared off of the face of consoles until very recently. With the N. Sane Trilogy of Crash Bandicoot titles one through three, some thought this would be the last we’d see of the triangle-shaped mammal until a remake of his kart racer followed by the surprise reveal that Toys For Bob and Activision would be coming together for...

Crash Bandicoot is back with a new adventure, promising to be the true successor to Naughty Dog’s original platformer trilogy. Crash’s new developers, Toys for Bob, had some big shoes to fill to not just recapture the old Crash Bandicoot spirit, but to bring a new dimension to the spinning marsupial and reinvent him for a modern audience. Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time does a lot to keep Crash Bandicoot’s mechanics relevant, without sacrificing the series’ charm (or notorious le...

CRASH BANDICOOT 4: IT’S ABOUT TIME REVIEW FOR PS4 AND XBOX ONE. Crash Bandicoot fans are used to disappointment as the four years of good entries have nearly been overshadowed by the two decades of bargain bin bandicoot blunders. The 2017 trilogy remaster was a pleasant reminder of what once was, but also an indicator of how much the orange marsupial has aged. Failure and rose-tinted glasses didn’t prevent Toys For Bob from trying to reinvent the ‘90s icon through Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time. And not only would it likely make Naughty Dog proud, it would also probably...

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time carries on Crash's story as time-space is in trouble again. Toys for Bob have added a lot to this new Crash and while a lot of it works really well, what doesn't work does let the package down. Crash fans will still enjoy even for the new adventure.

During the final shot of Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, Lieutenant Aldo Raine and Private Utivich are staring smugly into the camera which has taken Hans Landa’s perspective, having just been forever marked a Nazi for good with a swaztika. As Landa deafens the audience with bloodcurdling screams, Raine, not looking at Utivich but instead at the work he’s has just created, proclaims “You know something Utivich? I think this just might be my masterpiece”.

It's safe to say that the vast majority of people who are interested in Crash Bandicoot 4 won't be picking the game up for multiplayer anyway, though. And while players may find themselves lacking fun things to do after completing the story, the initial playthrough is an incredibly good time. The controls are tight, the challenge is stiff, and the graphics are second-to-none. Crash Bandicoot 4 is a highly-polished platformer and stands out as easily one of the best platformers available on current-generation consoles.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is a strong return for the series, and a showcase of what might have been if we got a true follow-up to Crash 3. I sincerely hope that Activision entrusts Toys for Bob (and Vicarious Visions) with the keys to the Crash kingdom from here on out. I wanna see more of the little guy.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time really is the definitive Crash game. Toys For Bob have taken all the series’ trademarks, refined them into a challenging and polished experience and given us tons of levels to play and secrets to hunt for. There’s new characters to play as and masks that shake up the gameplay when they appear, but Crash 4 is the same old Bandicoot who's learnt a few new tricks.

There’s a lot holding Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time back from being the leading platforming experience it could be. Its lack of accessibility is a real issue, and it’s still plagued with problems that existed in the original Crash games, like awkward camera angles and imprecise jumping. But it is a beautiful-looking game, and fans of the series will undoubtedly get a serious kick out of being back in control of Crash – even if they will need god-like patience for some of the game’s more trying sections. Its extra content is a let-down though, and the full RRP...

Crash Bandicoot fans have waited well over a decade for a proper follow-up that honored the legacy of Naughty Dog’s classic trilogy. Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time mostly delivers on that promise, crafting an experience that embraces the mechanics that made the franchise such a hit, while adding its unique spin. The story isn’t anything special, but Crash and Coco’s story is told with such enthusiasm and charisma that it’s hard not to get sucked in for the 6-8 hour duration. The ten dimensions are wonderfully designed, filled with plenty of intricate levels that will test your platforming capabilities....

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is both respectful of the series that came before it while also giving it the modern update it needed with new gameplay, depth of character, and a beautiful look. Toys for Bob just gets Crash. Its fresh new ideas, from big gameplay additions like new playable characters to supplementary but no less enjoyable aspects like the N. Verted mode to quality-of-life improvements like the shadow circle under Crash’s jumps, all now feel as natural to Crash as though they’d been there all along.
