Dishonored: Death of the Outsider is a fun and well-made standalone title that is certainly worth giving a shot. It's certainly one that's best enjoyed if you have played the first two games and simply want to experience more and want to see the series' loose ends tied up in a nice and clean narrative.

I might not have enjoyed it quite as perfectly as Dishonored 2, but Death of the Outsider is a fittingly melancholy way to wrap up a story arc I've loved. The Empire of the Isles is a strange and exquisitely horrible world, and this entry is no different.

Dishonored: Death of the Outsider is another solid entry into the franchise. Despite a couple of minor issues here and there, this title is definitely worth the price of admission.

Dishonored: Death of The Outsider is a great follow up to Dishonored 2. It offers a really rich experience with a fair amount of replay value—which is really rare in add-on content these days.

However, Death of the Outsider is a leaner and meaner take on the Dishonored series, and one that continues to highlight the special world that Arkane Studios have crafted. There's an argument to be made for the series to continue on as much as there is for the franchise (at least in its current form) to end on a high note like Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, and with that last point, it serves as a bloody finish to a beautifully violent series.

By the time Death of the Outsider comes to a close, Billie’s gone through the ringer. It’s not the longest expansion out there, and it seems to miss a step or two in the main plot, but there’s more than enough for anyone who appreciated the moment-to-moment formula of Dishonored 2. Billie Lurk never had it easy, but after her last job, it’s finally time to rest. And that’s more than a fitting farewell for one of the best video game franchises in recent memory.

Dishonored's tried-and-true gameplay returns and serves as a decent vehicle for an interesting narrative that gives the series a sense of finality.

For three titles now, the Dishonored franchise has portrayed a world of rampant greed that hides behind velvet and brass. The corrupt elite, they dress like royalty and sit in high towers, far away from the festering muck below. While Dishonored and Dishonored 2 gave the player a chance to send some of those high towers crashing down, I didn’t feel like I was doing any real justice until I was in the shoes of Billie Lurk during my time with Dishonored: Death of the Outsider.

The Dishonored saga comes to an elegant, if not entirely satisfying, end with a spin-off adventure that is almost as good as its full price predecessor.

Death of the Outsider's story never lives up to its promise, but strong mechanics, good gameplay, and a fascinating world pull it through.

Dishonored: Death of the Outsider is another masterful entry in the series that in spite of its relatively slender runtime, is still a good few hours of first-person nirvana. Like Dishonored and its sequel before it, this is utterly essential.

A resoundingly confident continuation of 2016’s Game of the Year, Death of the Outsider is a worthy addition to the Dishonored pantheon.

If, however, you live, breathe and sleep Dishonored, with your limited edition Corvo mask on your bedside table, you’ll be in your element here. There are times when Death of the Outsider feels a little too familiar but, despite the game’s reuse of art assets, these moments are far and few between. An engrossing, well-paced send-off for a series that already tops the stealth genre, Dishonored doesn’t get any better than Death of the Outsider.

Assassinate a god in this expansion to our 2016 game of the year.

An excellent game that delivers an above average amount of gameplay for its cost, giving you the freedom to utilize an interesting set of powers to track down and kill a god. Beautiful environments and varied objectives more than make up for changes to the Chaos mechanic from previous games in the series.

Death of the Outsider might be smaller in scope (and launch price) than the first two games, yet Arkane has crafted a game that meets the quality of design found in those games. It takes the best bits of the series and improves them, putting together a story that feels personal despite its huge ambition and featuring what may be the best Dishonored protagonist yet. If Death of the Outsider ends up being the closing chapter for the Dishonored series, then it is a truly fitting conclusion.

Dishonored: Death of the Outsider is a solid finale for fans of the series. Those who've played the franchise since the beginning will find the conclusion both shocking and worthy, even though it felt quick. Billie is definitely weaker and less equipped than Corvo or Emily but having her serve as the main character did give a new perspective on the series and showing that the Outsider's influence affected more than royalty. Death of the Outsider is more Dishonored and if you're a fan of the franchise Death of the Outsider will give exactly what you expect from this acclaimed series in addition to a solid ending.

It was wonderfully satisfying to have more Dishonored to play, even if Death of the Outsider doesn’t quite meet the high bar Dishonored 2 set in story or mission design. Even though it’s a shorter and slightly shallower game, there are some exciting new abilities and interesting changes to the energy system, and the freedom from consequences of Chaos further encourage experimentation and freedom. All in all, it’s a worthy end to the story that began five years ago.

If and when Dishonored returns, it will be in a different era and with new characters. I hope Arkane is as bold with its next work, as it was with the original game.

In 2012, Arkane Studios introduced the world to the city of Dunwall, a dark fantasy kingdom inspired by Victorian London, where nobles stabbed other nobles in the back for crumbs of power when they weren’t busy grounding the poor into dust. For nearly five years and across multiple entries, Arkane has built its fantastical universe around assassins and vigilantes, people sick of corrupt politicians and tyrants molding the world in their image and willing to do anything to stop them – even making deals with the devil. In the world of Dishonored, the closest thing to the devil is The Outsider, a mysterious figure on the outskirts of reality who grants those he deems worthy of his interest supernatural powers.

I don’t want to give away too much and spoil anyone’s fun, but rest assured that Death of the Outsider is a worthy installment in the series.  It lightens up on the story consequences from your actions and allows a much more liberated approach to your gameplay in which I found myself gleefully slaughtering guards more than creeping around corners.  If you feel like I didn’t touch on the story, it was intentional.  The title doesn’t leave much mystery on the main goal of the game an...
