Days Gone is a grim, beautiful B-movie; its action and writing are full of pulpy thrills, and by the end of it, I found myself liking a character called Deacon St. John – an achievement in itself.

t's been a little over two years since the last time I took Deacon St. John for a joyride in the freaker filled mountains of a post Zombie-apocalyptic Oregon. Originally released on the PlayStation 4 in 2019, Days Gone returns for a second ride by becoming the second first party PlayStation exclusive released for PC. How does the experience hold up?

Days Gone is back on PC, even better and prettier. It's still the same game that won the hearts of many gamers. Deacon, though rough, can also be very human. Check out our PC review.

Days Gone has its exciting moments, but it fails to say anything interesting or meaningful about its story and characters. Its PC version enhances performance and visuals, but others the game remains the same for the most part.

Days Gone on PC is an impressive technical upgrade from the PS4 version, running flawlessly and looking gorgeous, thanks to the increased detail. The game still has major flaws and is largely uninteresting and bland, but the tick-box formula and amount to do will grab some people. That said, don't expect PlayStation and Sony's typical great narrative and gameplay the brand is known for.

Days Gone is the perfect PlayStation game to make its way to PC. It was already a beautiful game, but held back by the PS4 and PS4 Pro. On PC, Days Gone gets it’s chance to flourish, running at uncapped frame rates, high resolutions, and touting an FOV slider. While it is missing some cool next-gen upgrades like ray tracing and DLSS, Days Gone runs nearly flawlessly on PC, and serves as a testament to Bend’s tradecraft. Even if you’ve already played the game on PS4 or PS4 Pro, it’s worth jumping back into the shoes of Deacon St John...

Days Gone is finally on PC as a part of Sony sharing some of its exclusive titles like Horizon Zero Dawn. The open-world zombie survival game came out in 2019 to a lukewarm reception for a variety of issues. The question is, has its adaptation into PC fixed any of these problems? The short answer is yes!

Regardless of how pretty the world of Days Gone is to look at, it’s a game that tried too much and truly suffered from it. The story drags on, the writing for characters is so inconsistent it becomes infuriating, the entire camp system adds more bloat to the game and nothing really feels as good as it should. The main selling point of the game, the hordes, don’t even truly matter until 30 hours into the already lengthy 40-hour game which alone is a huge misstep regardless of how enjoyable they may be when they finally appear. I know there...

While it tries a few unique things, Days Gone's awful writing, abundance of glitches, and boring cookie cutter gameplay doesn't really make it worth spending time on.

Days Gone has the weight of the world on its shoulders as a PlayStation first-party release. With God of War and Spider-Man just to name a couple and a strong E3 reveal a couple of years ago, it’s finally with us, but expectations from such high-quality games last year work very much against it. It certainly doesn’t captivate in the same way as those previously mentioned titles, but the more time I spent in the zombie infested universe of Days Gone, the more I grew to enjoy it. I just had...

If you’re looking for a quick game to pass the time, you may want to pass on Days Gone as the story itself is around sixty plus hours long, not including side-missions and all 240 collectibles. But if you have the time and allow yourself to enter this world without expectations, Days Gone will blow you away and leave you enthralled for hours on end.

I can say with full confidence that I’ve had a blast playing Days Gone. Whether it’s the main storyline, coming up with plans to get rid of hordes, or even the endless hours that one can put into exploring, this game offers diverse elements for all players to enjoy.

Those moments of fun and challenge are too fleeting however, and they’re surrounded by a confusing story and long hours of repetitive tasks. Like a zombie, it lurches through the motions, hungry for brains, lacking its own.

Days Gone ups the open world survival ante but doesn’t have enough cash to pay for the rest of the rounds of betting, making it one of the weirdest AAA releases in recent memory. If enough people buy it, its stronger moments will likely be immortalized in YouTube videos for years to come. Yet, most people will probably remember it as the open world zombie game that didn’t bring much mechanically to the table. With some tweaks to the pacing, it could have reconciled its warm, frank look at humanity and been something special.

I can’t think of many other open world games that pack in as much character, as much wonderfully crafted narrative that Days Gone does. Sure, it’s a story about a world overrun with a deadly virus. But it’s also a story about people, about hope, about survival. It’s at times uplifting, others heartbreaking. Couple that with Days Gone‘s beautiful setting and a varied array of well-designed story missions, and you’re left with something pretty special. Don’t write Days Gone off as “just another generic open world game”; it’s so much more than that.

Days Gone feels bloated, like a movie that goes on for an hour longer than it needs to or should’ve. It’s messy and confused, but peppered with genuinely thrilling encounters with rampaging hordes of zombies and occasionally breathless firefights. There’s a good game in here somewhere, but it’s buried in a meandering storyline, repetitive missions, and just too much obligatory stuff to do without an eye on the smaller details that could have given it much more character. Some fine tuning and editing could have removed the tedium and celebrated what makes this game unique and interesting, but Days Gone...

Make no mistake, though, this is still a well-made game, albeit with a lot of familiar elements underneath the zombie apocalypse veneer. PS4 players should still absolutely play the game and they will come away satisfied as a whole. Just know that this isn’t the same type of top to bottom hit that some past Sony exclusives have been.

It took a few hours to get under my skin. But now that I've gotten into a rhythm with its post-apocalyptic horror-survivalist aspects, Days Gone puts on a good little self-serious road drama.

If you asked a bunch of PlayStation gamers which of Sony's internal studios they prefer, chances are you'll hear lots of replies mentioning Naughty Dog (Uncharted, The Last of Us), Sony Santa Monica (God of War), Guerrilla Games (Horizon: Zero Dawn, Killzone), or Media Molecule (LittleBigPlanet, Tearaway, Dreams). Others might pick Polyphony Digital (Gran Turismo), Sucker Punch Productions (Infamous, Ghost of Tsushima), or even Japan Studio (Gravity Rush, Knack, and big co-productions like Bloodborne, The Last Guardian and Shadow of the Colossus).

When Days Gone was first revealed, it caused some divided reactions. Unlike most other PlayStation exclusives, there was some trepidation about revisiting yet another post-apocalyptic zombie outbreak open-world game. So it has a motorcycle and its zombies definitely aren’t your usual zombie fare, but can it stand shoulder to shoulder with the likes of The Last of Us, a game it’s been compared to since the beginning? The more I saw of Days Gone, the more excited I got, and now that I’ve finished it, I can say without hesitation that not only does it stand among the crowd of...

Like the winding roads of Farewell Wilderness that contain both serenity and danger, Days Gone is a journey with a winding range of emotions. Though the game borrows heavily from other open-world games, Bend Studios has done a solid job melding it together into a package that’s more than the sum of its parts. The story, while lacking major surprises, is filled with enough emotional beats and a robust main protagonist that elevate it beyond all the clichés. The bike and freakers add intrigue to the open-world formula, and the stealth and melee combat create satisfying gameplay opportunities. The game...

Glitches aside, Days Gone is a remarkable surprise. Open worlds and zombie games are a dime-a-lootbox and have been for years, yet SIE Bend Studios rose to the occasion. In theory, Days Gone’s undead sandbox sounds dated and cliche. In practice, a hybrid of The Sons of Anarchy, The Last of Us, and Red Dead Redemption is a truly captivating experience thanks to Deacon’s sympathetic presence. After all, none of us could do better in Deacon’s situation as he attempts to maintain his humanity in the face of the living death, fighting for the future by remembering love, life, and...
