The Shadow of the Erdtree expansion had a lot to live up to, but gorgeous vistas, superb boss fights, and a range of fun new gear sweep you through a massive expansion that feels half as long as it is. At this point, it's almost getting boring praising FromSoftware every time.

It won’t be winning over any new players. If you weren’t a fan of Elden Ring initially then you won’t like this, but given the millions of people who have already fallen in love with the FromSoftware title, I don’t suspect there will be many customers unhappy with Shadow of the Erdtree.

Elden Ring offers rewarding gameplay, a cohesive setting and gripping lore. Some of the open-world systems feel clunkier than they should, though.

We are halfway through 2022, with so many great gaming releases, and even more games to come, but if there’s one thing that’s pretty much unanimous among the gaming populace, is that we’ve had our game of the year decided for us since late February. For as much as Neon White, Total War: Warhammer III, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, and Rogue Legacy 2 ended up being bangers, we all know Elden Ring is the best game to have released in 2022. I cannot remember the last ...

Elden Ring is a walking example of a 10 out of 10 game that isn’t perfect. No game can be perfect but there is just so much in here to love that it becomes hard to pay attention to its mistakes. Every handful of hours had the game open up more and, every time, I was desperate to keep searching, exploring, conquering. Now, over 100 hours later and two playthroughs, all I want is to discover more of what Elden Ring has in store for me. This isn’t just one of the best From Software titles bu...

Elden Ring is a crowning achievement for FromSoftware and undoubtedly the very best gameplay experience they've yet delivered - and that's really saying something given this developer's incredible back catalogue. The Lands Between deftly combine breathless open world exploration, stunning artistry, immaculate world-building and wondrous adventure with classic Dark Souls combat and dungeon-crawling, resulting in not just the best Souls game to date, but a candidate for one of the very best video games ever made.

Elden Ring is a special, once in a generation type of game. You can feel it the moment you push open the set of double doors looking out onto the opening area of Limgrave and begin exploring the vast open world at your feet. It’s an astonishing feat, as Japanese developer FromSoftware adapts its wide but ultimately linear levels of the past to suit open-ended exploration and discovery. If it wasn’t for the few too many disappointments under the hood, Elden Ring would already have most Game of the Year awards under lock and key.

From the devious mind of Hidetaka Myazaki comes the next Souls-like epic. The hugely anticipated Elden Ring has landed and it brings with it a lot of familiar concepts eager FromSoftware fans will know and love—an obtuse narrative, a dark gothic aesthetic, a lack of hand-holding, and towering foes ready to slice you in half upon first introductions. With that familiarity though comes a whole new open format that changes the formula considerably and creates something with more scope, more ch...

Even with its few issues, Elden Ring is an absolute triumph that will surely please all of the many players eager to get their hands on it. From Software’s track record with the genre has been incredible to see, especially as so many competitors have tried their hands at it with very few finding success. The studio is truly the master of soulsborne games, and Elden Ring proves that conclusively.

FromSoftware effortlessly immerses you into the beautiful world of The Lands Between, with challenging enemies, secret treasures, and deep lore tucked away into every corner. This is, without a doubt, FromSoftware's best project yet, showcasing a culmination of all their previous games. I can't wait to jump back in The Lands Between… See you there, fellow Tarnished.

Elden Ring is a masterpiece of a title, with only a few minor issues. The co-op summon system is a pain, and mounted combat doesn’t always feel the best. Other than that this game is staggeringly good in every single area. It does for open-world games what people claimed Breath of the Wild did. Every part of the experience is elevated by an insane attention to detail. Few games have ever left me feeling so enthralled for the entirety of my playtime. Whether you’re going it solo or with a friend Elden Ring is one guaranteed to be one hell...

Elden Ring is one of the most anticipated games of all time. Since the reveal trailer was first shown at E3 2019, every little morsel of info about the game has made headlines. George R.R. Martin’s worldbuilding and Hidetaka Miyazaki’s writing and direction seemed like a match made in heaven, and fans have been on pins and needles to see if the end product can live up to their lofty expectations.

And you’ll need to watch it. Because in Elden Ring, enemy design isn’t just for show. It’s meant to give you a hint about how to defeat the beast or clue you into its arsenal of attacks. (You better believe an enemy with a tail will be able to attack you with it.) Everything feels meticulously designed, with careful intent always at the forefront of the entire experience.

Since the release of Demon's Souls, From Software has become synonymous with many things: hardcore and brutally challenging action role-playing, unique storytelling, amazing level design. With each following title, the studio has upped the ante more and more, improving on the original formula a lot while staying extremely faithful to it. The only exception to this was Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, a game that, while rooted into the Souls series, played radically differently, with a huge focus on stealth and unique combat mechanics like parrying, showing the world that the developer does know how to break away from its successful...

Once in a great while, a game comes along that seamlessly combines impeccable gameplay, a wondrous world, incredible tone-setting music, and unparalleled art direction. That game is From Software’s Elden Ring, an action RPG that channels the best aspects of the studio’s last decade of work into one enormous package. This absurdly ambitious open world captivated my curiosity, enticed me with puzzles, secrets, and mysteries, and served up unbelievably satisfying moments as I experienced one of the most extraordinary adventures of all time. From my initial foray into the world to the final moments, every step of the journey is...

Combining the deep and challenging combat FromSoftware is known for with a vast and varied world that’s always a pleasure to explore, Elden Ring is quite simply incredible. From the moment you step foot into The Lands Between you’ll be engrossed, and while you’ll no doubt experience some setbacks on your adventure – such as a boss that at first seems impossible to defeat – there’s always somewhere else to go to cool off, pick yourself up, and perhaps power yourself up before returning to have another go. That is to say, you don’t just play Elden Ring; you live...

It’s remarkable how well From has managed to expand to a truly open world while keeping their core gameplay intact as well as building on top of it in one massive and impressively polished package. Elden Ring is clearly the culmination of FromSoftware’s past 13 years of experience and development philosophy of the souls franchise. Miyazaki and FromSoftware have crafted something so massive, special, wondrous and triumphant that it’s unfathomable how they can top it. Easily FromSoftware’s best game to date and a genuine masterpiece.

Elden Ring is one of the best games in years, with a breathtaking vast world to explore, and one of the most satisfying combat systems in an RPG. As an open-world skeptic who was pretty much convinced that the Souls formula wouldn't work in such a setting, I'm happy to have been proven wrong. Elden Ring retains the heart of what makes FromSoft's action RPGs so compelling, and takes things to a whole other level by pulling the best elements from their older games and improving upon them in this one.

However, when judged on its own merits, Elden Ring is a phenomenal game that will disappoint very few. It has most of the components that fans of the genre seek: a wondrous aesthetic, a feeling of mystery that invites exploration, skillfully designed and intimidating adversaries, and rich gameplay with a lot of replayability thanks to the various classes and builds. In the end, Elden Ring is more than just an open-world Dark Souls. It is strong in its own right, with tweaks to the classic Souls blueprint that create a refreshing new experience that still feels familiar.
