Syndicate continues our journey through history as the brother/sister duo of Jacob and Evie Fry work to continue the legacy of their father within the Brotherhood, which has led them to London, the oppressed city that their family had wanted to liberate for years. Told by their mentor to wait till the time is right, the Fry siblings work against the tide and decide to take matters in how hands, which puts them in the middle of a gang war with Templars and crooks, which causes a divide between the two as their aspirations take them on different paths within the goal they set out to achieve.<img decoding="async" data-attachment-id="22125" one of the more depth-filled set of protagonists that we’ve seen in comparison to last year, though its dynamic seems to be a little one-sided when it comes to showcasing character. Evie’s character remains the interesting part of the duo, showcasing a strong female protagonist that stands her own next to her male counterpart, though there are certain cliche’s within the narrative that seemed somewhat unneeded, including a bit of character development that seemed to be somewhat counter-productive, which I say like this to adhere from noting any spoilers within the narrative. Jacob’s sense of righteousness and rebellion seems a tad bit over-exaggerated, which leads to a sense of one-dimensionality that makes Jacob far less interesting than his counterpart, which can make character interaction between the siblings somewhat cliché’d at times due to the fact that his role is simply to be the brother that tends to break the rules.Syndicate’s narrative is actually pretty compelling in comparison to some of the lesser installments within the franchise, though it still shares some of the faults that have yet to be addressed within the story of the franchise. Whilst the entire ‘take back London’ aspect of the narrative is pretty fun and intriguing, the callbacks to the Templars, pieces of Eden and the present day storyline continue to be the achilles heel of the franchise. This isn’t due to the fact that they’re inclusion is misplaced, but it feels like the writers are making this up as they go along, which once again makes these sci-fi aspects of the story a bit contrived and sometimes even deemed unnecessary, which is a shame since the 19th century war for control over London seems to be more than strong enough to warrant its own game, which does raise the question, is the series’ own narrative holding it back from providing a compelling experience? When it comes to the strengths of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, it excells in showcasing a deep and immersive visual experience. Not keeping in mind the gameplay aspects of the open world, London is simply the most well-crafted and good-looking map that we’ve seen in the franchise so far. From the bleak streets of the industrial areas to the tall spires of the city of London, the contrast and diversity in design is impressive in comparison to a lot of the other installments within the franchise, which do seem less detailed or thought out than Syndicate’s map does.

London is wonderful, but Assassin's Creed's inherent problems ensure Syndicate never comes close to doing its world justice.

Ubisoft had a lot to do this year, after the less than satisfactory arrival of Unity last year Ubisoft had to ensure that Syndicate launched bug free and with a solid game that could bring the franchise back. On the first account of launching bug free Ubisoft kind of failed with many notable bugs appearing across the entire game(none of which are game breaking), but in a more positive light Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is one of the best, if not the best Assassin’s Creed games I have ever played.

The environment, the gameplay, the characters, this game has certainly enough assets to present that would make this game a good purchase. It’s problems aren’t that much of a problem, in fact they aren’t game-breaking at all. The game does reward you, especially with a certain secret area that takes you in for a spin on World War I, putting you in the shoes of Jacob’s granddaughter, Lydia Frye, which fans could take as a hint towards the franchise’s future direction. Definitely this game is one that you can buy and add to your collection or not but the experience would still be that of what you can expect from an Assassin’s Creed game.

Syndicate is another Assassin’s Creed. Its characters and setting are likeable, it’s not a technical mess, and it has some fun new features, which certainly puts it in the upper tier of the franchise since Brotherhood. This is another pseudo-historical playground, another set of Templars to stab, and another checklist of collectables to grab. It’s a solid entry in a series that’s been far too prolific, and while Syndicate is good, it’s tough to be excited about it.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate is a solid and good-looking, if decidedly traditional, release in the series' annual cycle. It's worth a look but if you have an enormous backlog, then don't worry - the Frye twins can wait.

When I reviewed the ill-fated PC port of Arkham Knight, I said that the Arkham games were my go-to AAA series. On this form, they've got stiff competition. Here's hoping Syndicate isn't an anomaly and that the future of the series will be something other than history repeating itself.

Despite a lack of difficulty and some weak final moments, the fascinating story set against a beautiful London backdrop featuring excellently portrayed characters makes Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate one of the strongest entries in the series to date.

With a stellar cast of characters, a beautiful setting, thoughtful and open ended gameplay, and a decidedly more playable post-launch game, Assassin's Creed Syndicate is the game that many fans of the series have been waiting for.

Bernie Sanders could use Assassin's Creed Syndicate's tale of greed and capitalist abuse at campaign rallies. It's too routine after a dozen games.

October 28, 2015 Read Review

Without any shadow of a doubt, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is one of the best entries in the series. For me it’s probably the best since the masterpiece that was Assassin’s Creed 2. The controls are tighter, the combat is vastly improved, and the side missions complement the main campaign as well as being interesting in their own rights. On top of that, performance is great despite its fantastic visuals and huge game world, with very few technical hitches on display. There’s nothing revolutionary here, so it’s probably not going to convert non-fans to the Creed, but it’s a great evolution of the tried and tested formula that will keep you enthralled and entertained for hours. Many will be cautious about picking up Assassin’s Creed Syndicate this year due to Unity’s issues – some may even outright dismiss it – but they’d be foolish to do so. This is an essential open-world adventure that fans of the genre or Assassin’s Creed should not miss.

One of the more poignant moments in Syndicate is a scene where Crawford Starrick is solemnly playing piano. At the conclusion of the slow, heartfelt song, he earnestly sings “In such a moment, I but ask that you’ll remember me. That you’ll remember me.” We remember you, Assassin’s Creed. And now, we have hope for what else you can do.

It's a good Assassin's Creed game that is a ton of fun if you're a fan of the franchise like me, and London is a fantastic playground that is just a joy to walk around in, but to me it feels like that is no longer good enough.

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is the next-generation Assassin’s Creed game we were promised last year. While the story does little to push the franchise forward, having such a lovable duo in a brilliantly designed city was exhilarating.

October 27, 2015 Read Review

Assassin's Creed Syndicate is one of the most historically inaccurate Assassin’s Creed games thus far. I have spent hours creeping through the darkened alleyways of London’s underbelly, climbing its iconic landmarks and even riding a few trains, and there is this massive glaring historically inaccuracy that ruins the game for everyone that’s visited the fair city of London.

Assassin's Creed: Syndicate is about what we've come to expect from annual franchise. Ubisoft Quebec has built a beautiful new world to explore but relies on many of the same ideas from previous games to keep players interested.

Yes, it's better than Assassin's Creed Unity. Ubisoft's romp through revolutionary Paris was a steaming mass of merde, so the publisher had little margin for error with Assassin's Creed Syndicate – the latest instalment in the French firm's flagship open world franchise. But while transposing the property's iconic undercover killing to the cobbled streets of London has shored up its technical performance, there are still serious design issues with this somewhat formulaic foray.

October 22, 2015 Read Review

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is the most fun I’ve had with an Assassin’s game since Black Flag. In fact, I liked it more. Apart from its ill-fitting conclusion, it never takes itself too seriously and delights in the rich possibilities of its Victorian setting and great new grapple gun. As you explore its contrasting boroughs, you glean some sense of what powered this great city in the 19th century. The story missions capitalise on this by exploring different spheres of influence, which when combined with elements like mass transit, heavy industry, and law enforcement, make this feel like a different type of city than has been featured in the series to date. Best of all, Syndicate asks you to take London back in a way puts the last few games to shame.

October 22, 2015 Read Review

Something of a return to form for the series, Assassin's Creed Syndicate is the perfect marriage of time, place and characters with an entertaining story and fun gameplay to match. London has never seemed so appealing.

October 22, 2015 Read Review

Ultimately, Syndicate comes off as another Assassin’s Creed game with a handful of improvements. London is beautiful if a bit laborious to travel around, and the missions are repetitive, but this doesn’t make Syndicate bad by any stretch of the imagination. It’s still a good game, it just hasn’t made a significant step up over the previous instalment. If you are a fan of Assassin’s Creed, or you think you might be, then Syndicate comes as recommended as any other AC. It likely won’t convert people who dislike the series, but it won’t lose any who are still interested in it, either.

October 22, 2015 Read Review

It's as if the developers have listened to many of the complaints that were levied at previous titles in the franchise and decided to finally do something about it with Assassin's Creed: Syndicate. Framerate problems persist – not nearly as much as in the last game – but they've stripped out the things that diluted the fun of the earlier titles and focused on giving the player the ability to do what they want, when they want and not only that, but to go about it however they want. There's no broken co-op or botched multiplayer here and as we've said, there's no need for a companion app. The focus is back on single player stealth and freedom, with the final game giving us the feeling that the franchise is absolutely back on track. Excellent fun.
