Far Cry New Dawn is your regularly scheduled stop-gap Far Cry, with some lovely tweaks like the ranked enemies and weapons, and a fantastical element that reaches its natural conclusion.

Creeping through neon pink flowers, my canine companion marks out an upcoming outpost. Already, you can hear the rap duo Run The Jewels being blasted across the facility. After a few well-planned shots with a sniper made out of some piping and firing off a couple of sawblades into the chests of some spray-painted bikers, the outpost is all mine. Celebration rings out while the soothing sounds of The Turtles courses through the speakers. This is but a common scene in the post-apocalyptic sequ...

The amount of crafting and exploring so that you can craft, as well as a couple of minor issues, put a damper on an otherwise fantastic world, and fun game experience.

Frustratingly, Far Cry New Dawn doesn't deliver in any real way. It doesn't pay off Far Cry 5's ending. It doesn't offer new spins on the Far Cry formula. It doesn't even offer players an escape from money woes. It's just another Far Cry, and that's just not enough anymore.

Into the second week of Far Cry New Dawn‘s initial release, we have already completed almost half the game. The game is extremely enjoyable and it is definitely worth playing although there are negatives all around too. Here is our Far Cry New Dawn review. Before that, you might want to have a read at our interview with James Nadiger, the associate narrative director of Far Cry New Dawn.

New Dawn adheres to Far Cry's by-the-numbers open-world formula that's reaching old age. In other words, "It's a good one of those kind of games."

Ubisoft have continued their trend of releasing a non-numbered Far Cry title every other year, satiating the appetites of open-world enthusiasts around the planet. With Far Cry New Dawn, the narrative is a direct sequel to Far Cry 5 and as such has produced a level of character development, story depth, and world building that has not yet been experienced in the franchise. Simply put, Far Cry New Dawn is an adrenaline injection straight into the bloodstream of Far Cry as a whole, and sets a n...

Ubisoft loves open worlds more than 50 Cent reckons a fat kid loves cake, and can’t seem to go three months without asking players to dive into another 30+ hour story set in a vast, expansive environment.

It's a cliche, but Far Cry: New Dawn is the video game equivalent of popcorn. Bits of it taste great, but most of it is just there to be consumed, free of expectation. You shovel it into your mouth and admittedly it can be difficult to stop until the bag is empty, but you'll barely remember eating it once you've sat down and had a real dinner.

Looking ahead, the series is equipped to veer off in a bunch of compelling new directions. I don’t know what to expect from the future of Far Cry, and that’s so exciting. My mind is buzzing with possibilities.

In a nutshell, Far Cry New Dawn is like that unnecessary sequel or spin-off you were initially excited about, but quickly realized that maybe the original material was good enough without any addendum.

Far Cry New Dawn recycles the same general setting from last year's Far Cry 5, but this time with a post-apocalyptic twist and healthy injection of creative, colorful, and bombastic content.

The pink apocalypse in New Dawn turned out to be primarily a continuation of the fifth part of the Far Cry series, and not a new franchise that would shake up the post-apocalyptic trend. But would Joseph Seed be satisfied with such a work?

As someone who loves the Far Cry formula and will take my fix wherever I can get it, revisiting Far Cry 5’s slightly reworked open-world map in New Dawn proves there’s still quite a bit of joy to be found in clearing outposts and generating as much chaos as possible, in single-player or co-op. I could’ve done without the silly story and disappointing final boss, but Expeditions are a thrilling new mode, and the story missions are exciting more often than not. New Dawn is an enjoyable diversion while we wait for Far Cry’s next big thing.

Let's get one thing straight right away: Far Cry New Dawn is barely a post-apocalyptic game. You might be forgiven to think so given that the game directly picks up after the ending of Far Cry 5, where Hope County (and indeed the whole world, as the developers at Ubisoft have since revealed that 88% of the planet's population has been wiped out in the aftermath) got ravaged by nuclear bombs.

As I said, there's plenty of game here, and it's all been a joy. Far Cry 5 was one of the best games in the series, and yet New Dawn may have just eclipsed it with some fine-tuning and a brave new world to explore. I can hardly wait to see what's next from the series, and I hope it follows in the footsteps of The Father.

Far Cry New Dawn may be a shorter Far Cry experience, but it’s one of the most fun games in the series since Blood Dragon. The bizarrely colourful post-apocalyptic world is far more enjoyable to explore than the drab pre-bombing Hope County of Far Cry 5, and the Mad Max-style enemies are a lot more fun to take on than the Peggies. While the story’s mostly nonsense, with a few infuriating moments, and it’s undoubtedly all a cut-down experience - it never feels like a sub-par one, or even...

That's good, because you need to plough on with the main missions if you want to unlock that double jump - and trust me, you do. Jumping down slopes and hammering the wingsuit button in the vain hope it will open has long been a central tenet of Far Cry. With that double jump, hop off the slightest hill and you're airborne. I'm tempted to call it transformative, but I know that's because double jumps and wingsuits are subjects so close to my heart.

Just like the series, Far Cry New Dawn is a game of exploration and self-discovery. Despite flaws and bumps along the way, New Dawn captures new magic and shows a glimmer of what the future of the Far Cry series looks like. Now if only Ubisoft could match the game design with equal level and story quality, we may be able to see the series capstone game in Far Cry 6.

After the explosive ending to Far Cry 5, we didn’t expect to see the franchise grace our screens again for some time, let alone take us back to Hope County. Far Cry New Dawn is a fresh step for the series, taking a chance on the post-apocalyptic side with their unique take of the “superbloom” after so many years without human interference. Players take on the role of a nameless protagonist, this time the captain of security for a traveling caravan of specialists who have been helping folks on the coast rebuild their lives. Referred to as “Cap,” the game...
