The more you play Overwatch the more you realise Blizzard thought of basically everything you might criticise it for.

Despite being relatively new to the tie-in fiction scene, Lyndsay Ely demonstrates a thorough grasp of how to tell a thrilling tale. It’s rare a book gets me to tear through from cover to cover in a single day, but Deadlock Rebels did just that. Another welcome surprise is the sheer breadth of vocabulary on display. At every turn, Deadlock Rebels perfectly balances greater aspirations with an instantly gripping adventure. Whether you dig Overwatch, westerns, or sci-fi heists, there’s something to love here — and if you are an Overwatch fan and haven’t picked this book up yet, you need...

No matter the platform, Overwatch is still Overwatch. Everything from every other version of the game is here, warts and all. Gyro aiming and portable play, while nice, don’t offer enough of a reason to choose this version over another if you already own the game on a different platform. But if it’s your first time or just want to play on Switch, go for it; this is a fine port.

At its heart, Overwatch on the Switch was always going to be a bit of a tough sell. Those who somehow haven’t played it yet could easily buy a better-performing version on other platforms, while those who have played it to death may be put off by the weaker performance and the lack of shared progression. Even so, having the capability to play a match of Overwatch while using the restroom is 2019 living at its absolute finest, and the kind of flexibility offered up by the Switch’s portability is not something to be understated. We’d give Overwatch a recommendation...

Overwatch feels like a sort of natural evolution of the Team Fortress formula. Blizzard’s taken the basic idea of Team Fortress 2 and managed to modernize it with gameplay elements from the MOBA genre. It’s a hard locked six vs. six affair and there are way more characters (21, to be exact), but they’re ultimately pretty similar games with similar game modes.

Overwatch Overwatch is the spiritual successor to TF2 in many ways, and if you haven’t heard it said before, it’s worth a look if you come from there. Even for total newcomers, though; the world, the characters, and the sheer chaos of skills, ultimates, and counter picks makes this game not worth missing.

Overwatch may but not 100% perfect, but I haven’t had this much fun in a multiplayer shooter in about a decade. It’s my new go-to game when I’m not doing anything else; I imagine I’ll soon be hitting hundreds of hours on it, and I haven’t sunk that much time into a multiplayer shooter since Halo 3 or Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. It’s already a fantastic package, with plenty more upgrades to look forward to such as the incoming ranked mode, and I’m eagerly awaiting more heroes as that is where the game really shines paired with its...

Playing with another person that isn't communicating on voice chat against a team of players that are in sync is a brutal, punishing experience. It doesn't seem fair to hold this against the game, when it is clearly marketed as a team-based gaming experience. It seems like a great strength of Overwatch that a lone wolf expert marksman can't carry the weight of a whole team and steal a game the way that they could in CoD or other shooters.

Overwatch is a fantastic game from top to bottom. The relatively small map selection does little to detract from a game where every character is fun, unique, and important, and every fight is a dynamic, constantly evolving game of battlefield control.

If you've played many competitive multiplayer shooters, then you've likely spent far too much time celebrating – or, indeed, lamenting – your kill death ratio. Long has this little number been seen as a barometer of your success in online battles, and this in turn helped feed a steady stream of gamers into the Team Deathmatch grinder, while turning off more casual players. Coming to the end of match only to find yourself consistently propping up the scoreboard is really demotivating, and Overwatch – Blizzard's first foray into the shooter genre – wants to try and avoid this by giving...

With Overwatch, Blizzard Entertainment adds yet another addictive classic to its collection. Even in the over-saturated genre of online multiplayer shooters, Overwatch emerges clearly at the top of pile. The beauty of this game is in its simplicity: it’s what allows for the game to be fun, competitive, and accessible all at the same time. As long as Blizzard continues to drive newness into this game while maintaining that simplicity, it’s not hard to imagine that this game will be highly ...

Rarely does a game live up to its hype. I had been skeptical for a long time now about just how good Overwatch was going to be. It seemed good and Blizzard has had a great record for making incredibly detailed and polished games, but most of the games they’ve made over the last decade have been iterations of the same IPs they’ve been working on years. Could they really pull off a new genre for them set in the world of a failed MMO? They absolutely can and they certainly did.

There's no question that Overwatch is a masterfully designed game. The wide array of amazing, unique characters, and the original ways they interact with one another, make for a peerless teamplay experience in the shooter space. Some issues, like a dissatisfying progression system and a hostility to solo players, hinder the overall experience, but the core of Overwatch remains strong throughout. It's an easy recommendation to make, so long as you've got some friends to back you up.

Overwatch has been polished to a high sheen by Blizzard. There are a handful of nits to pick, but everything comes together in an extraordinary fashion when it could have just as easily been a mess of half-baked ideas.

As the clock winds down to zero, you backtrack in time to drop a perfect pulse bomb on the enemy position, blowing apart the greedy robot-turned-turret and his teammate, a slick sniper assassin who was too busy tracking her prey to notice your explosive gift. The game heads into overtime as the payload wagon rests mere inches away from the victory point, but your team has just been annihilated by an enormous magical dragon. Then you hear it: “Heroes never die!” As your one chance, your team’s Mercy hero activates her ultimate ability and brings your entire group back to...

Overwatch is a collection of firsts, but it carries itself with the confidence and proficiency of a veteran. It has plenty of room to grow and expand, but as our first step into this world, it's inviting, competitive, smartly designed, beautiful to look at, and fun to play. You can't ask for much more than that.

Overwatch is a one-of-a-kind hero shooter that is far and away the best of its genre. It offers variety, depth, and style that very few come close to matching. Its four-year-old foundation has been lovingly crafted into the unparalleled multiplayer experience that it offers today. From its now-cherished characters and expertly crafted maps to outstanding sound design and dynamic action, it's a masterpiece of competitive gameplay. Most importantly of all though, it’s never stopped being ridiculously fun after all these years. All of these factors combine to make Overwatch a singularly special shooter, and one that I would recommend to...
