Street Fighter 6 is leading the charge for current-gen fighting games in the most vibrant way possible. With a series of character guides, story campaigns for classic characters and a fantastic open world for you to take the fight to the streets, it feels like everything I could have asked for from a modern Street Fighter entry.

Believe it or not, I wasn’t exactly hyped during Street Fighter 6‘s pre-launch campaign. Although, I can possibly blame Street Fighter V for that. For the past eight years or so, that dud of a fighter (at least when it first came out) really bothered me. Meanwhile, it seemed like every other fighting franchise in the horizon, be it Mortal Kombat, Guilty Gear, Tekken, and The King of Fighters, was upping their ante with bigger, content-packed sequels that made Street Fighter V‘s bare bo...

Street Fighter 6 feels like a direct and hugely effective response to criticisms over the anaemic state of its predecessor at launch. Capcom has fully loaded three huge modes here, giving wannabe world warriors a veritable feast of fisticuffs to get engaged with. World Tour is a great big cheesefest that revels in its madcap style whilst providing a fun story, engaging RPG elements and a great way to learn the ropes all rolled into one. Arcade Mode offers up a solid roster of 18 excellent fighters to choose from at launch, and the all new Battle Hub already looks...

Capcom saw your Street Fighter 5 complaints and threw the kitchen sink at its vastly superior successor. Street Fighter 6 is a live service game that will grow and expand over the course of the entire generation, but those anticipating a light, half-hearted effort at launch will find one of the most robust, feature-rich fighters of all time. This is an exceptional package that even takes the time to try and onboard newcomers, and while a few minor issues prevent it from securing an unexpected Perfect, it comes about as close to a Flawless Victory as fans could have possibly...

For players wanting to play with friends or rank up in the game's multiplayer, Street Fighter 6's Battle Hub pushes what an online multiplayer mode should be. Instead of staring at a menu while Matchmaking looks for matches, custom characters are free to wander the sizeable online hub. Digital arcade cabinets populate the space and players can interact with them to battle, practice, and even play classic Capcom games like Final Fight or previous Street Fighter games with other players. Matches of other players can also be watched, making the Battle Hub a prime layout for tournaments. At its best...

Street Fighter 6 takes all the mistakes made with Street Fighter V and tries to not make them again. From the one on one traditional fights that we know, have been improved thanks to the addition of the Drive Gage mechanics, to the online modes where a lot of people are going to play. There is very little that Street Fighter 6 does that people won’t be happy with… Unless you live in Australia… However, the looming nickel-and-dime ride of Season Pass after Season Pass could make things worse down the line. Street Fighter 6 is an easy day-one buy...

Capcom has given us a complete game right out of the box. The single player experiences are enormous. The online experience is perfect. It’s pretty hard to argue Street Fighter 6 isn’t the best iteration of Street Fighter as an overall package. Yes, debates will take place for years over which version has the best fighting mechanics, best visuals, music, roster etc.But no Street Fighter game has been the complete package 6 is. As mentioned off the top, Capcom heard the content criticisms hurled at V and clearly learned from it and delivered in spades with 6. Even if you manage to burn through the more traditional modes Street Fighter 6 has to offer and getting pummelled online isn’t your jam, the World...

Street Fighter 5 was one of Capcom’s many missteps in the previous generation that saw the infamous publisher at one of its historic lows. It was seemingly a hell of a learning experience since those hard times led to Resident Evil’s resurgence, one of the best Mega Man games, a bunch of well-made retro collections, and, now, Street Fighter 6. Capcom has emphasized the “Street” part of the title to great effect, giving it a distinct personality to go alongside its tight and traditional fighting mechanics that restore this franchise to some of its former glory.

That’s not to say other entries in this 36-year-old fighting game series are bad per se – but gamers around in the early 90s will remember what a seismic influence Street Fighter 2 had both at home and in arcades. Street Fighter 4 then saw a huge evolution in the series’ move to 3D graphics and online play. So it makes sense that Street Fighter 6 is set to rejuvenate not just the series but fighting games for a whole new generation.

Despite the many successful fighting game series that bloomed since the iconic Street Fighter II, which brought the genre to unprecedented heights, the CAPCOM franchise continued to be among the most well-known, despite some stumbles in both popularity and quality. Following the release of Street Fighter IV, which rejuvenated both series and genre after the excellent but not exactly popular Street Fighter III, many were expecting Street Fighter V to set the world on fire. That didn't happen due to the game's launch issues, including lack of content, gameplay mechanics that did not allow for varied playstyle nor player expression...
